Teenagers singing Passover songs at a community seder, Educational Alliance, Lower East Side, New York (1949)
The Educational Alliance was founded by progressive German-Jewish philanthropists in 1889 to aid the Lower East Side’s large population of Eastern European Jewish immigrants through classes and programs that emphasized American citizenship, literacy, professional and vocational skills, the arts, and physical education.
Once every year or two, the rising sun ray shines along the Catholicon and the Rotunda into the entrance to the Aedicule, which contains the Sepulcher itself, for about 15 minutes and illuminate the inner rooms of the Aedicule. This alignment is too precise to be widely considered to be formed by chance since, it only happens during the holy week of Pascha/Easter. In this photo a newly positioned Armenian bishop in Jerusalem was blessed with the holy light in his back, and in way to intensify it is usually customary to blend the light with smoke from incense burners. It was a very special moment for either believers or non-believers alike.
Willow Sunday is also known as the Entry of the Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem and starts the final countdown to Easter. Russia’s unfavorable climate means willow twigs are used instead palms.

Praying His Heart Out
It was quite early at the Western Wall (07:00); the place wasn’t empty, but was much less crowded then it would be a few hours later. suddenly, this boy appeared, alone, and started praying very intensively. I asked myself: what pain(?), grief(?) or other strong emotion bothers such a young child so heavily that he is praying so hard?
You don’t see boys praying this way,and even adults only rarely are praying so emotionally. i hope the prayer brought him relief.
