RUN-Stronger, Faster, Smarter, Farther in 2017
These are 4 of the pillars to successful running.
Step by step, mile by mile, workout by workout, month by month you can increase in all four of these disciplines.
This year I am going to publish a comprehensive month by month guide to help you achieve all of your running goals this year and to use in the years to come. The plan can be used for any level of runner: beginners to elites. And, can be incorporated into other training and race programs. Don't worry about age or ability, this plan will work for you.
This is a preview of what we will be laser focusing on in the next 12 months

Are you a consistent runner?
To answer that, we need to first define consistency.
Consistency can be defined: steadfast adherence to the same course, or route.
To be a consistent runner, you must have a running routine. It is the the rare consistent runner that leaves their running to chance. Saying,”ahh, I will run when I get around to it.”
Chances are you will not get around to it. You will be the runner who runs for a week, quits for 3 months, runs for a month, then stops for a year and so on.
Is that the runner you aspire to be?
One of the reasons I love running is because it is consistent with me. It is always there waiting, truly a loyal friend that gets me through the good times and the bad. But, if you do not return to it regularly it will lose its affect.
The longer you wait in between runs the harder it is to be consistent.
The runners I know who run every day, will keep running every day. They are consistent.
The runners I know who might run every 2 or 3 weeks, will probably not stick with it. They are not consistent.
Deciding to go on a run will take time from something else. Sleep, work, family time, rest, etc.
No doubt, you have had to decide between an extra hour of sleep or your scheduled run. True, at times we need the extra sleep and recovery, but usually we can sacrifice the sleep. And, the benefits of the run are long lasting.
By deciding to run over sleep, you will feel better about yourself, probably sleep better the next night and benefit weeks, months and years from now.
So, should you run today?
The deciding to run formula is simple:
Love it
Do it
Keep doing it.
Make it a habit and you will benefit.

4 Running Podcasts to Motivate You
When I first discovered running podcasts, I went podcast crazy.
I downloaded every running related podcast that I could find. And to be honest, it became overwhelming to try to fit them all in.
Podcasts are great company on a long run. Listening to a running podcast will make the first ten miles of a twenty miler fly right by.
There are a lot of great running podcasts floating around in the podcast world.
Here are 4 of my favorite Running Podcasts.
UltraRunner Podcast–As the title shows this podcast focuses on ultrarunning. It has highly motivating interviews with some of today’s finest ultrarunners. Host, Eric Shranz, keeps the podcast fresh with a great interview style and new content weekly. If you want the motivation to run an ultra, listen in to UltraRunner podcast.
Endurance Planet–This podcast has a very strong following for a reason. I personally have learned more about training and nutrition from this podcast then any other. Tawnee Prazak’s passion and education shine through as she interviews experts on running, strength training, and nutrition. I strongly suggest listening to all the older episodes of Ask The Ultrarunner with Lucho, the shows are down to earth, and you will learn a ton about specific endurance training. If you want to deepen your knowledge on all things endurance related check out Endurance Planet.
TrailRunner Nation— This podcast is a great place to inspire you to run more on trails. It is a well rounded resource to learn about racing strategy, mental training, nutrition and everything trailrunning related. TrailRunner Nation is very entertaining and informative for the beginner and well-seasoned runner.
Science of Ultra— This is a great new podcast that is breaking new ground by focusing on the science of what can make us better ultrarunners. I suggest giving it a try and you will no doubt come away smarter and inspired.
Of course, there are many more podcasts out there.
What is your favorite running podcast?
Even a Minimalist Strength Training Plan will help you run stronger.

“The athlete, through being trained and practised properly, will find that the mind can dominate the physical body, and he can maintain an effort long after other competitors have abandoned all hope of holding the speed required to win.”

Nothing motivates like progress.
A running journal is a chronicle of progress.
Get motivated by recording your progress starting today. All you need is a spiral notebook and a pen.
Write the date and include as much information as you like:
Miles
Time
Pace per mile
Route
Weather
Weight
How you felt
What to improve
Thoughts or ideas during the run
Do you log your runs?
Has it helped motivate you?
