Could you explain the joke of the flowers dst comic, I didn't get it

I just think wilson's quote for flowers is funny. he says they smell like the common laborer. Is he saying they smell like body odor, or is he saying that the common laborer smells like flowers? Either way, why is he able to compare the two? In my opinion. It's because hes gay and repressed and secretly likes to smell men

Side note Winona gets confused because she considers herself a 'common laborer', and thinks maybe hes making fun of her
