ARTSFORCE 2013

ArtsForce 2013 is a two-day conference for current College of Fine Arts undergraduate students. Students will attend events and workshops that prepare them to understand and articulate the transferrable skills they are developing. Students will also have an opportunity to network with arts alumni and members of various local arts organizations. Students will take away from the conference tools that will undoubtedly ease the transition from college into the modern workforce.

Four Tips to maximize your ArtsForce experience!

For those of you who have never attended a conference, here are some tips to take full advantage of the upcoming ArtsForce conference, this Friday and Saturday!  1. BE PREPARED!  Conferences oftentimes have various activities and some that happen simultaneously. We recommend you get familiar with the conference schedule and figure out what parts of the pre-conference you want to attend, ensuring you get the most out of ArtsForce. 

2. BE BRAVE!  Conferences are a time to be a sponge and make connections. Don't be afraid of what you don't know; just prepare to open up and learn! Ask questions and introduce yourself to others. You might be surprised at how much more profound this can make your experience.

3. This is YOUR conference!  Thie conference keynote address by Steven J. Tepper, PhD is open to the public, but it's meant specifically for you. Please know that ArtsForce attendees get the best seating in the house that night, so look for conference staff to point you in the right direction.  4. TAKE NOTES!  You may ned up immediately using the skills and information you learn at ArtsForce, and you may not. So, plan to take good notes so you can reference what you learned for when you need it most. 

For those of you who have not registered yet, now is definitely the time. Registration closes tonight!  And remember that you've got fabulous ArtsForce staff and College of Fine Arts advisors attending that are ready to help make ArtsForce the most impactful for you, so find them if you need anything! When you have a creative background, it can be a little bit easier to communicate your thoughts to people. Student studying in the arts need to know that they learn this skill. This skill is critical and useful across careers.

I strongly believe an art degree is among the most highly practical and sought after degrees an undergraduate student can have… IF the student properly understands and can effectively explain the benefits. This is something I have actively been working on for several years and am feeling quite comfortable with.
