middle-earth meme: (4/5) elves ➝ LEGOLAS “Legolas Greenleaf, long under tree, In joy thou hast lived. Beware of the Sea! If thou hearest the cry of the gull on the shore, Thy heart shall then rest in the forest no more.”
✰ She was beautiful with dark hair and grey eyes and she was called Undomiel, the Evenstar of her people.
Take her by the safest road. A ship lays anchored in the Grey Havens. It waits to carry her across the Sea… The last journey of Arwen Undómiel.
✰ But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt, as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Here you will dwell, bound to your grief, under the fading trees, until all the world is changed and the long years of your life are utterly spent.

Arwen x Aragorn : Nightmares
It had been a quiet morning in the royal chambers of Gondor. Aragorn had been off early to a council meeting and left his sleeping wife with a chaste peck on the lips.
It has been three years since the war against Sauron had been won but still there were enough problems for the next couple of years. How to repair all the damage that has been made, how to split up the royal fields to make up for the ones that had been ruined and soaked in blood, how to get the families of the fallen a proper place to grieve, how to get rid of the nasty orc armours and weapons and how to make them usable for men, and so on and so forth. While Aragorn faced all of these problems with a clear and mature mind and tried his best to please his kingdom as well as he possibly could, Arwen could not ignore his constant nightmares, his cries for old friends lost to the swords of filthy orcs. She never spoke to him about it in fear of hitting a spot Aragorn so deeply wanted to hide. But it hurt her to see the love of her life to go through so much pain still, to be woken by her husbands cries many hours before the sun even thought about rising. This morning Arwen decided to seek the libraries of her husbands kingdom in hope for a cure or at least a remedy to Aragorns pain. She quickly put on a dark blue robe her maid had laid out for her and braided her hair in a haste, not wanting to waste a minute of possible research. Hurrying through the corridors while greeting everyone she saw, in a rush, she finally got to what she had been looking for. Opening the heavy wooden door, she quickly got in hoping not to be seen by anyone who could force her into a conversation that would just take up too much time. Time she could spend on reading books of men, elves, dwarfs, and even some of the shire. With a sigh of relief she found she was the only one in the huge library and ran to the first shelf she thought might have a remedy for her husbands pain.
Hours over hours have passed and Arwen could have sworn it was past midnight when she opened her fourth book about the impact of uncommon weeds on the human body, still none seemed to deal with the topic of dreams but the one that said there had to be a blood sacrifice and seemed to be heavily inspired by dark magic, she decided to pretend she never even laid her eyes upon it. Opening another book about elvish magic, she started to feel a little tired herself. The candles on the wooden table were barely enough to lighten the whole room after the torches on the walls lit their last sparks and with every sentence Arwen read her eyelids got heavier. After mere minutes Arwens head was rested on the open book and she was fast asleep.
Aragorn who had been looking for his wife since he got out of the tiring meeting was starting to worry. Why hadn’t she told anyone where she was off to? Was she alright? Where could she have gone that nobody of his kingdom had seen her? Walking through the corridors with a torch held up he asked guard after guard if they had seen his queen but each and every one of them just shook their head. He started to despair when suddenly a maid had come up to him. “You’re looking for the Queen, aren’t you?” Aragorn nodded simply, curious how the maid knew of it. “Her majesty had been off to the library all day, I doubt she wanted anyone to see but I had to pass the corridor just as she closed the door… She hasn’t eaten or come out all day, it must be something serious.” The maid said with a hushed voice. Aragorn put his hand on her shoulder, “I owe you, a lot. But next time let me know earlier” he said as he rushed to the library. Opening the wooden door he saw his wife asleep and surrounded by mountains of books. Silently he walked up to her, placing the torch on the nearest hold and looking at the covers of the books, curious to what she could possibly have looked for. ‘Human dreams’, ‘Spells for the Human Mind’, ‘Dreams and their Meaning’… Had it been that obvious? He thought his nightmares went unnoticed by his wife but as it seems it troubled her as much as it troubled himself. His heart swelled at the thought of Arwen desperately looking for something to ease his mind. Blowing out the candles, he picked up his sleeping wife delicately to prevent her from waking up. Walking back to the chambers however wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be with his wife in his arms and not a single source of light at hand. He stumbled a few times but managed to get to the door of his chambers, to his relief without waking Arwen. Placing her softly on their shared bed not bothering to get either her nor his robes off he simply slipped next to her, placing his arms around her. Not much time has passed and he had been asleep too. But this time he fell asleep at the thought of his wife and how they cared about each other, and not a single bad thing crossed his kind that night.
