i didn't really think that people would be interested in the lore behind it like i thought people would like it just for the sole fact that it references one of the biggest movies during this time but anyway i should've typed the lore in the caption or something...i did type something in my notes app before i did the animation. anyway, i think it's obvious that the scene that inspired the au is the one where bear drops nikki at her house after the trivia night and he makes that wish so for hara it's haru accompanying me to baji's grave while he sits and waits inside the car. this is what i typed in my notes app AND BEAR WITH MY WRITING IM NO MARENA LEVELS OF WRITING SKSKS
𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐔𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐘𝐎 understood, without a doubt, how the dead, despite being absent on earth, will remain and always remain impactful to the lives of the living. maybe ghosts were real, given how much they haunted the people they left behind. they didn't need to appear bloodied and jaded or wear white and cover their faces with long hair and hover dark corners. their absence was enough to do a number on those who were around to mourn their loss. it wasn't a thing that's exclusive in films and literature, it surely happened in real life. and right now, it was happening before his eyes.
from inside the car, he looked at rara who stood before keisuke's grave, holding a bouquet, talking to him as if he was standing and waiting to answer or comment about whatever she was talking to him about. yes, he understood that even if keisuke no longer walked the same ground as him and rara, he still walked with her nonetheless. yes, he understood that being dead doesn't mean full expulsion from the universe.
but wouldn't people want to be able to talk to someone who could reply? someone who could give them comfort? someone who was physically there to hold you and soothe you? wouldn't people want to see that they were being heard and listened to by another person?
wouldn't rara want someone responsive, and i don't know, alive?
it's such a confusing, frustrating thing—the fact that him, with his heart pumping blood, with color in his cheeks, with his organs intact and functioning, couldn't compete with a pile of bones buried six feet under.
every time a mission overwhelmed rara, it was keisuke she ran to. every time she felt joy, it was keisuke she wanted to share it with. and he drove her here every time like a fucking dog on a leash.
dejected, he pulled out his duffel bag from the backseat and took out this 7-dollar toy that he bought from koko's crystal shop. koko, who was fond of astrology and heavenly bodies, acquired a box of these collectibles called 'one wish willow'. he didn't think koko thought much of it aside from the fact that people were scrambling to acquire one for themselves. he only cared about the profit. he mostly cared about tarot cards. haruchiyo accompanied rara to this shop, she was interested in the signs and crystals, which is something her and koko bonded over. rara had purchased a rose-quartz crystal, and while looking around the one wish willow caught his eye. koko told him about how he should buy one (yes, he charged his own associates—business is business with hajime kokonoi) before they run out and haruchiyo shrugged and caved in.
he looked at the box—'one wish willow. amaze your friends. you only get one wish'. he pulled out a branch from inside and it played a tune. when it was done playing, he whispered, "i wish rara nakamoto would love me more than anyone in the fucking world." and snapped it in half. for a minute, he thought how pathetic it was for him to believe this would actually work. he wasn't even high on anything, which made it more ridiculous. he put the broken branches down on his lap and breathed deeply. he can be upset all he wants, but he knew damn well that the second rara asks to him to come drive her to this godforsaken cemetery again, he is already walking towards his car.
he turned to the passenger window and was surprised to see rara standing still, facing the car instead of keisuke's tombstone. the bouquet lay flat on the ground. he squinted his eyes and cursed softly. suddenly, rara started walking towards the car and swiftly sat on the passenger seat.
"...is everything alright?" he asked unsurely.
rara didn't look at him. she just bowed her head down and spoke in soft, somber tone. "i'm tired, haru. i'm worn out. by being a ghost bonten executive, by being a two-faced cunt to chifuyu, to kazutora...i'm weary of talking to an epitaph and a bunch of human remains." clear droplets of tears started falling from her face as she sobbed quietly. "i think i need someone to just...hold me down against the gravity of the weight of this miserable existence."
haruchiyo almost let out a chuckle. not out of finding the situation hilarious, but because of the strangeness of it. he has never seen rara this open and vulnerable before. this woman always barricaded her emotions like tony stark was enclosed and protected by his iron man suit.
"do you wanna go see a psychiatrist? i have a couple of contacts that can—"
"can we go to your place? i just don't want to be left alone."
haruchiyo looked astounded. rara had always insisted on being left alone, in solitude. now she wants company?
"alright." he said with uncertainty.
AND THAT IS ITTTT i had to write this to make the animation because i thought i would flash some of these for people to understand and im like nah people don't read HAHAHA so i did more animation and less writing (as you saw in the animation, i just included the wish in writing).
anyway, at first i think haruchiyo would be OVERJOYED by the fact that i always want to be around him like that montage in obsession where bear and nikki spend a lot of time together. in fact, he probably wouldn't think much of this but i probably would go to chifuyu and kazutora's pet shop and give them my cats to adopt and take care of and make up some bullshit reason that i'm no longer capable of taking care of my pets which of course, would confuse them and make them worry that something is wrong with me and would try to investigate. but to haru, this is all just me FULLY committing myself to him. i can imagine that if i chained the door and fucking handcuffed him to the bed he would be so into it and he knows if he messes up any orders from mikey, kakucho is up next to clean up after him.
i think he would just be pleased by the devotion and it's actually the executives who would take notice of me appearing to be super dependent on haru when in the beginning i was adamant in being a one-man team. i also thought about what kind of shit i would pull for the 'my little food critic—what's the verdict: cat?' and i had this brilliant idea that i would make him some bone broth and put a note 'my bonten no. 1—what's the verdict: mucho?' WHAHAHAHAHA i'm pretty sure he'll be freaked out by that one like imagine having to acquire mucho's remains and cooking them...that's psycho nakamoto for you ! HAHAHHA also i can imagine him asking permission to go on a mission with just him and mikey and i would just throw tantrums and he'd risk pissing off mikey because i had to come and be a liability. i think by the end, he would be the one standing before keisuke's gravestone wanting to be dead because he wants to be cared for the way i cared for keisuke not this ballistic, crazy, obsessed version of me that he wished for. like if it means to eliminate himself to earn the kind of love i had for keisuke, then so be it.
