Everyone knows the first day of Friend Grace’s class is nickname day. It’s the day when every pebble is on their best behavior to try and make sure they get a cool nickname, something unique that they can brag to their friends and classmates about.

Sometimes, Grace will do it without thinking. That’s how Kiddo and Buddy got their nicknames. Often, Grace will nickname students after their coloration. Gaia got his nickname because he’s blue and green, and apparently looks a lot like Earth. Violet got hers because she’s purple. (She was initially disappointed since color means nothing to Eridians, but then Friend Grace showed them violet flowers and said that humans often associated purple with wealth and royalty, and she changed her tune.) Most of the time, Grace will give his students what he calls “regular human names” like Abby, Carl, or Martin.

But the most coveted nicknames are ones named after Earthen creatures. When ♩♪♬ 🎵 ♩♪♬ 🎵 first introduced themselves, Friend Grace immediately perked up and shouted “Robin!” After a bit of explaining himself and a few videos of bird calls, Robin was trilling and chirping happily, excited at having a nickname that felt like a 1-to-1 translation of their own.

Even well after Friend Grace is gone, his legacy remains. A hundred years into the future, when humankind finally launches a new ship with the express purpose of properly meeting their Eridian neighbors, one of the first messages exchanged is “Hello! My name Robin.”

ive been binge reading @oof-ouch-yikes ‘s fic Within A Spectroscopic Binary (which is genuinely the most well written + characterized fic i’ve ever had the privilege of reading, PLEASE go check it out) and i’ve been fueled by all the little moments from it so i needed to do something about simon always grabbing grace from behind

grace and rocky get to erid and both of them are hitting every eridian squarely in the uncanny valley because they've both absorbed so much of each other that they feel both too eridian and not eridian enogh. rocky faces in the direction he's paying attention to and it feels like he's trying to hide something, the way he and only he of the eridians seems to always be showing the same face of his carapace when he speaks to somebody. he speaks in metaphors that only make sense to somebody who understands light-based vision. his intonations are funny, rising on questions when they otherwise wouldn't, falling flat, his sarcasm goes to space dry and restrained and comes back with such force it almost feels like he's lying instead of joking sometimes.

and grace who is so alien, but reflects eridian mannerisms that they've never considered strange before but coming from a creature so soft and strange, it just doesn't feel right. grace who stomps his foot twice when he asks a question, and it rings out flat and dull instead of the strong, sharp sound of an eridian hand on the ground. grace whose voice is so alien, so one-note, so full of articulations that are sharp and round and everywhere in between, but who echoes the melodies of eridian poetry and music, sometimes on accident but sometimes perfectly in time with what rocky translates him as saying, and later, perfectly in time with his keyboard.

rocky and grace who mirror each other more similarly than they mirror their own cultures. who speak to each other in a strange pidgin eridian that nobody else quite understands fluently. who share jokes from movie and tv shows from earth filtered through eridian folktales, plays, and musicals until they only make sense to the two people who know both cultures. they're not strange to each other, but it puts other eridians on edge. even adrian, at first. they've changed each other, you see.

Ok, SO: The GCU (Gosling Cinematic Universe) or better known as the Goslingverse started after the PHM movie came out. It's basically crossovers with every movie Ryan Gosling has played in where all his characters all one big, happy, dysfunctional family. That's just Ryan Gosling.

There's the Coltland Twins AU, where Grace is twins with Colt Seavers, who's the protagonist of the movie The Fall Guy. There's also this other AU called Coltlandgentry AU where it's the Coltland twins but they have an older brother named Court Gentry/Sierra Six who's the protagonist of the movie The Gray Man (of which AU I have come up with an entire plot based on Court's childhood and planning on writing a one-shot based on it). And then there's Ken from the Barbie Movie. There's not much about him in comparison to Coltland twins/Coltlandgentry, but he's mostly interpreted as the twins +Court's weird uncle (btw both The Fall Guy and The Gray Man are on Netflix if you wanna watch them).

I'm sure there's more Gosling characters from the Goslingverse of which I'm not aware of, but these are the basic ones as far as I know. It's basically the PHM fandom hearing Stratt say "you have no immediate family" and then going "OBJECTION!"

Also not part of the Goslingverse but felt important to note, a good chunk of the fandom ships Grace with Simon The Convict from Markiplier's movie Iron Lung. The crossover/crackship is treated as totally normal and canon bc we're all delusional, so like, if you see fanart of Grace hugging and making out with a long-haired guy who usually has teeth on the side of his face, yeah, that's Simon. (and like... It's Ryan Gosling x Markiplier... It's peak 🥹) And yes, as informed just yesterday from the man himself, Mark knows about the yaoi.
