Greeters, fellow whumpers! I'm Ash, just a simple girl with simple pleasures (my OCs undergoing horrific trauma).
I'll mostly just reblog probably, but I'll also post prompts and drabbles when inspiration strikes. If you send me an ask with a prompt or concept, I probably won't write a full fic/ one-shot of it, but I will almost certainly expand on it or give my thoughts.
I will always list the tw's at the top of any post I make, as well as in the tags, but I am not perfect and may miss some - please let me know if I do! There may also be some nsfwhump on this blog, but it will be tagged, tw'd and hidden under a read more. Stay safe!
My BBU fic is located at @good-dog-bbu (name subject to change, I'm not set on it). If you have any questions, comments, concerns or opinions on it, send them here - I'll only post the actual Good Dog parts on that blog. The extras (notes, asks, etc) for Good Dog are tagged #good dog extras if you want to check that out.
My main tags are the first five on this post.

I know I literally just said I was gonna do prompts daily, but whumptober is taking up more time and attention than I bargained for, so I'm prioritising that. I'll try to resume after October though! If I think of one in the mean time, I will of course post it, and you are all still welcome to send in prompts you want to make known.
I thought I'd post the intake paperwork for my OC's in Good Dog for some worldbuilding and as a shameless plug. Go read my story! :)
Anyway, here's Alexa:
And here's Jonah:
They are very heavily inspired by the intake papers that @ashintheairlikesnow made. Go support a fellow Ash if you're not already! I have a template for mine if you need it - just ask :)
BBU Tropes Archive: Recruitment/ Sign-Up (voluntary)
[BBU Scenes and Tropes Masterlist]
Reblog this with a link to your own posts featuring that trope / your takes on that scene; and check out the reactions to find new reading material!
It doesn't matter if your take is 'classic' or not, just curious to see how everyone did it! If you have several posts on this theme, feel free to list and link them all! Please indicate if your writing consists 18+ themes, so readers can be aware before clicking the link.
The first and second part of my story cover this! The first is voluntary by what I imagine is the most traditional means (normal sign up as a last resort for whumpee's own sake), the second is to protect whumpee's sister, who would have been taken involuntarily otherwise (I'll link the second as soon as it comes out)
What about a ballet dancer whumpee? (I specify ballet, since that's my frame of reference, but you can do whatever you'd like with these)
What is whumper's relationship to whumpee? Dance teacher? Obsessed parent (all of us in dance knows at least one)? Maybe they're whumpee's dance partner. Or maybe, they're an obsessed fan who can't get enough of whumpee's dancing. Maybe they're rich or famous or a political leader who likes the idea of free personal entertainment.
Does whumper force them to dance for them? Do they put whumpee up on a giant music box and make them twirl for hours without rest?
Or maybe it's a g/t whump, and the music box is normal sized. Does whumpee sleep and live in the box? Are they ever allowed out?
Does whumper take them to parties to dance with them, showing off their prize?
Does whumper beat or cut the soles of whumpee's feet so they can't dance anymore? Or maybe cut them in such a way that they have to walk en pointe all the time to avoid the pain of stepping on the soles of their feet (which leads to even more pain)?
Does whumper force whumpee to starve themselves so they can have that "perfect dancing figure"? Does whumpee look in the mirror and see ribs and still think they're too fat? Do they willingly refuse meals to try and get thinner?
Does whumper even know that whumpee dances? Has whumpee kept it to themself so they can still have this one piece of themselves, this one things that they love, that whumper can't corrupt? Does whumper find out later? How do they react?
Let's talk about the physical effects of dancing as well. Trembling, aching arms. Bruised and bleeding toes. Legs that feel like jelly. A face that hurts from smiling too wide for too long. So Many Foot Cramps! Let me tell you, those hurt. When your toes cramp, it feels almost like they've been dislocated. If whumpee is forced to go en pointe too early in their life, before their body has properly developed, it could lead to ankles and feet forming wrong, so you can't walk correctly. If they go en pointe before they have the necessary ankle strength and training, they could sprain/break their ankle and cause permanent damage. If their shoes are broken in wrong, they're form will be wrong which will also lead to injuries. Also, it is incredibly difficult to walk in pointe shoes. Whumpee could twist their ankle walking down the stairs, or even just crossing a room.
Does caretaker go to great lengths once whumpee is free to help them love dancing again, because it used to bring them so much happiness? Or is it too much for whumpee, the memories so attached to the act that they can't separate the two? Does whumpee ever dance again?
Hero kidnapped by supervillain, who doesn't want hero dead, but definitely doesn't want them out and about and meddling.
So, thinking to kill two birds with one stone, supervillain gives hero to villain, a sadist who is, at all times, This Close to cutting up their own team just to feel something.
Villain is given two instructions:
Don't kill them.
Have fun.
Hero isn't being tortured for information, so they don't need to be kept in any working order. They're not being kept for ransom, so they don't need to stay relatively unharmed. They need to be kept alive, so there's no hope for an easy out. Hero's team has no idea where supervillain's base is, so villain doesn't have to rush.
What state is hero in when they escape or are rescued? Are they even still recognisable as themself? Does the team comment on how much they've changed? Do they see their trauma as weakness, or do they try to help? Do they mention they miss old hero, from before supervillain got them? Do they make hero think it's their own fault they got captured, they should have been better, smarter, stronger? Do they help hero get strong again?
What about when they finally face supervillain again? Is villain there? Can hero look at either of them? Do they flinch every time they move? Or are they firm, defiant, determined to prove that villain couldn't break them? Do they manage to make it all the way back to their base before breaking down?
Content warning: blood, torture, electric collars, living weapon whump, conditioning, dehumanization.
H is for Home
Eighteen’s ears still rang from the echo of Tane’s screams when he reached out, arm trembling so much it had to hurt in its own right, and weakly squeezed her fingers. “Niveth,” he called. His voice sounded like sandpaper, and immediately he coughed and then whined.
Eighteen didn’t respond, staring at his hand on hers. Lowered herself back on the ground, if only so that he didn’t have to reach upwards. It must have hurt.
“Don’t go,” he whispered. “Just give me a– just a mo–,” he tried to keep his voice level, Eighteen heard how much he tried. He couldn’t manage more than a shaky whisper interrupted by a sob, another and another one. His muscles spasmed, trying and failing to move. In the scarce light, she could make out the glistening tears traveling down his face. “It hurts so much…”
Eighteen waited. In the solitary locked for the night, there was nowhere else she could go.
“Niveth,” he called, voice steadier if barely. Eighteen knew he was calling her. Hearing the name felt wrong. Jarring. It made her chest tighten and throb, and she didn’t know what to do to stop the pain.
“Niveth,” Tane tried again. His fingers tightened around hers. They were cold – it was cold in the cell. He must be cold.
She rose abruptly, taking off the shirt even as he jerked at the sudden motion. One layer of fabric wasn’t warm enough, but it was better than nothing. He winced as it touched the red angry lines criss-crossing most of his body (he’d screamed on the top of his lungs after she’d counted half a hundred; writhed and begged for it to stop as his shoulders gave out; she hadn’t stopped) but settled when she sat back by him.
“Niveth.” His eyes were wide open in the darkness, tracing the lines of her body. She felt exposed for the first time in years. “Won’t you answer me?”
“It’s Eighteen,” she told him. Her voice shook as much as his. She didn’t know why. She swallowed and tried again even as his eyes glistened with something like hurt, “It’s Eighteen.”
“The hell it is.” He sounded as if he meant it. Her breath caught. She knew it couldn’t be the case.
Tane sighed. He reached out again, wincing from the effort, squeezed her hand. She moved closer to make it easier.
“I miss you, Niveth,” he told her then, eyes half-lidded. His voice was quiet, tired, pained, plaintive in a way that made her heart shatter. At times, she wasn’t sure if she could feel anything at all; all of a sudden, she felt too much. “I thought you were dead…”
She remembered his face, pale and covered in blood. She remembered the way she couldn’t tell if he was alive. She remembered wishing he wasn’t, because then she would know it wasn’t by choice that he left.
“She is dead,” Eighteen told him. Tane’s fingers burnt hers. The dead man’s hand squeezing the hand of the dead woman. There was nowhere in the locked cell that she could run.
“You’re right here–”
“She’s dead. She’s dead, she’s dead, she’s dead she’s dead she’s dead–”
“Hey.” There was a hand cupping her cheek, thumb pressing under the thin, long since healed scar. She flinched away. She didn’t want this. She didn’t want to feel him disappear.
“Hey-hey-hey. Niveth. Look at me, please.” his voice was strained. He was half-sitting now, the shirt fallen onto the ground. She obeyed the order. She always obeyed, even if it hurt. “You’re right here. And I’m here now. It’s not–” he shifted and gasped when the movement tagged on some wound. Eighteen helped him to a sitting position. He caught her arm before she could move away.
“It’s not too late,” Tane told her, face to face. She couldn’t stop trembling. She wasn’t injured, and she couldn’t stop trembling, and she couldn’t manage a full breath, and she couldn’t couldn’t couldn’t couldn’t stop the ache in her chest. She sobbed, the sound tearing through her throat against her will.
Tane smiled, a sad, fragile thing, and tugged her closer, until she nearly collapsed against him. She couldn’t hold back the tears. He didn’t ask her to.
“You won’t have to wait for long anymore,” he promised, one hand running through her hair. “Just a few more days, okay? We won’t be staying here for long.” His arm moved down, fingers running the length of the collar. “I know how to take this thing off. I have people waiting for me. They would know things went wrong and would come for me. For us. I’ll tell you what to do, okay? And we’ll get you out of here.”
It didn’t sound real. None of it did. But if it was just a trick of her mind, she didn’t want it to stop feeling so warm. So gentle as it stroke her hair.
“We’ll get you home, Niveth.”
She wasn’t sure she remembered what it was supposed to mean, but she felt something shift in her chest anyway. Something warm and quiet, and so fragile. She didn’t want it to stop.
When in the morning she was alone with the handler, they looked at her with a smile.
When I read the first one of these that I saw (I think it was number 3? Not sure though) I wasn't expecting to get attached to the characters at all - I usually struggle with named ocs, they often overwhelm me - but here I am, rooting for Niveth and Tane like I root for my favourite mainstream characters. The writing is so gripping and the story is beautifully thought out. Definitely worth a read, my dear followers.
Whumpee muttered under his breath, the tears in his eyes long dry. Their marks being the only thing staining his face...well, that, and the bruises that Whimper had left them ever since they were stuck here.
2 years.
Whumpee has been trapped in this cell for 2 miserable years. 2 years without proper food, clean water...or Caretaker.
Oh, Caretaker, their love. Was he still looking for him? Or did he forget about Whumpee, just like the rest of the world did?
"No...No. I know it's today."
He muttered again, trying to not let the hopelessness blind what little sanity he had left.
Tws: noncon body mod, body horror, amputation, hospital setting
Whumpee with the ability to fully regrow any body part, and to adapt to any environment.
They're kept in a locked room in the hospital, a machine constantly drawing blood and spinal fluids to have on hand - when transfused into a patient, the blood perfectly changes to match their type so there's no resistance from the body.
When a new limb or organ is needed, the hospital staff take it from whumpee. Sure, being with their heart or a lung or even part of of their brain for a few hours will kill them, but they'll regrow it and be fine again afterwards.
Do they give whumpee pain medication or anaesthesia for every amputation, or does the mindset of "they'll regrow it, it doesn't matter" extend to "the pain will wear off, it doesn't matter"?
How did whumpee end up here? Were they sold out abandoned by their parents? Did they discover this ability themselves and decide they wanted to make a difference?
Are they even aware of what's going on? Or are they drugged into compliance, barely even aware of their own name?
Are the hospital staff aware of their presence and the state they're kept in, or is it just one whumper who harvests from whumpee and the rest live in willful ignorance?
In my connect-the-community craze, I have another idea - for new writers and all readers:
A little overview on the most classic tropes and iconic moments of BBU, with the opportunity for you to link your own takes at it, as a little navigation.
The list follows here (readmore for more); I take your suggestions for what to add, and I'll make a separate post for every item that you can reblog with links to your own story featuring that.
I'll start with part I and will add to it later, also taking suggestions on what to add!
Please continue this (if you want, no pressure)! I'd love to see everyone's thoughts and takes on all this, especially as I'm starting my own BBU story now as well! Totally up to you, though. Either way, I'm saving this for future reference.
Thank you so much! This archive only works if people partake and the collection grows, so please add your stories / pieces as you go, and also feel free to link other people's stories!
Whumpee is forced to lie out in the sun for hours without sunscreen or even clothes as punishment. Their skin burns and peels. Maybe they were tied down, so they have stark white lines cutting through the red.
Whumpee is made to wear a long sleeved shirt and long jeans while working. They're covered in sweat, and whumper tells them how gross they are, how filthy and smelly and sticky.
Whumpee is the guest of honour at whumper's pool party, wearing a revealing bikini/speedo for the guests to coo over and stare at. Whumper's friends force them to drink alcohol on an empty stomach, to dance for them, to go in the water where no one can see the guests' straying hands.
Whumpee's cell has awful insulation, so all the sweltering heat comes in. Salty sweat mixing in with the tears and blood. Maybe they're in a stress position, their muscles already burning from exertion, the heat just making everything worse.
Congratulations, you are one. The idea of the shared BBU multiverse is, that all takes at the core concepts are valid; there is no canon, and the same time, everything can be canon for your story!
Is there something everyone agrees on?
Probably not; but here are some things I consider widely accepted/canon:
- The setting is dystopian, somewhere between present and near future; in a society similar to ours but with (even) more power in the hands of corporations.
- In several countries, there is a "pet industry", a legalised concept of serfdom/ slavery that allows to own other humans as so called pets, (usually) in a household.
- The term "Pet" is more focused on the ownership and companionship aspects; in most BBU stories the pets are considered less than free people, but aren't actually treated like animals.
- The law states that these people have signed up voluntarily and have been compensated for it. Sometimes though, rich people or corporations go against the law.
- The whole process, from signing up to marketing and sales is in the hands of influential corporations
- Biggest of these, usually, is WRU; there is no canon on what the letters stand for. (It was a tumblr inside joke that makes absolutely no sense in-universe, but the acronym stuck). Some writers create other companies with different methods or focus.
- Pets are classified according to 'designations'; at the core there are Domestics (household chores), Platonics (companionship, nannies, caretakers...) and Romantics (different sort of companionship, including... bedroom chores), plus combinations. Guard Dog (protection) has made it into many stories as a fourth designation. This isn't the limit, though; there are also writers with Object designations, more involved 'service' concepts, 'Chewtoys' and several more.
- Pets are identified by number codes, usually six digits, every writer has a different system behind them. As an abbreviation, handlers tend to use the last three digits. This number is also tattooed on them as a bar code, often on the wrist.
- Somewhere during the training process, trainees are made to forget their entire past and also certain skill sets that pets aren't meant to have. Owners can specify certain things they want to be erased or remembered. Usually, this is handwaved by writers; there's advanced drugs and neurological stimulation involved. The process and the drug administered for the memory loss is often referred to as "The Drip".
- Often, Pets are made illiterate to make them more dependent on their owners
- Often, Pets are made to wear collars and consider these "safe". There's a lot of themes around "safety" taught to pets to keep them contained.
- There are standardised sets of numbered positions the trainees are taught; extra positions can be added on request
- There are also a lot of memorised rules and phrases from training the pets are made to repeat and will sometimes in their everyday life
- Training involves all sort of torture, mostly psychological, drugs, isolation, shock collars and shock batons and serious gaslighting
- Often, training facilities are described as uniform and white and designed like mazes; trainees at facilities wear a 'uniform' of a white shirt and black shorts
- Pets are usually terrified of the memories of their training; including especially "white rooms"
- The term "Respect" spoken by a person with authority will make the pet fall to their knees instantly and await further instruction
- Pets are shipped in a box, which is the idea that spawned the whole universe; usually in a human sized crate with some accessories added. They're also called boxies, box boys/box babes/... because of that.
- Unwanted or stubborn pets are sent back to WRU for "refurb", trained again and sold with big discounts; it's used as a threat and most pets are horribly afraid of this
- In the outside world, there are movements to help runaway pets or even fight the system overall; usually called "pet lib"
- Pet lib runs safehouses where they take in runaways and work on deconditioning
There are more posts like this out these, some more extensive, some very similar; a very good one here. This is the set of things I consider most basic for my own writing, at least.
I've reblogged some more posts and discussions on @bbu-on-the-side as well, so feel free to look around, use whatever you like, and discard the rest.
Also, new (and old) BBU writers always feel free to tag @bbu-on-the-side should you ever do an intro. I'll share them there.
*Edit- I've also started an archive on established tropes and the existing writing for it, here!

I just wanted to check that this is correct for the tagging? (I'm doing days 1 and 11 together)
Yes, that looks exactly right! If you post it on day 1 or on day 11 it's likely to get reblogged (it's never guaranteed, it depends on what the Posting Fairies see)
- Witch who crashes while riding her broom/ staff, the snapping and cracking of bones mixing with the breaking tree branches before she slams into the ground. Waking up in extreme pain before having to drag herself home along the forest floor when she wakes up.
- Court Jester who's being harassed by one of the king's advisors, unable to do anything other than proclaim her abuse through clever jokes that only her abuser truly understands.
- Tavern maid who's fired after a party of travelling adventurers use mind control spells to avoid paying for their meal having trouble finding work in town now that everyone knows she's susceptible to mind control.
- Dwarven woman trapped in a cave-in, running low on light as she feels her way through a cave system her people have never mapped before. She hears sounds in the dark but it's unable to tell if they're reality or just her mind playing tricks on her.
- Woman who survived a powerful lightning attack by a mage. How she can't grip things too tightly anymore, how she hides during storms and her body will shake and twitch at random times. How afraid she is of seizures and having to take care of herself.
- Queen's handmaiden who switches places with her ruler when the castle is under attack. The kidnappers drag her out of the castle and escape on a boat before they realize their mistake. She hears them from where she's chained below-deck arguing over her fate. Whether they should just kill her or something else...
- Wife of a Nobleman who begs him to stop outrageous taxes. He agrees but only if she'll submit herself to the public humiliation of being whipped and put in the stocks. She does, holding her head with dignity as her husband tells lies about her and an affair that never happened.
- Nun in a church is selected for the sacrifice of a demon summoning ritual. She's abducted from her cell late at night and dragged underground, her bare back placed on a cold slab of rock, her heart thumping with dread as the priest steps forward.
- Soldier in the middle of a fierce battle who's run through by an enemy's sword. As she falls to her knees, blood spilling from her gut, she sees the fallen bodies of her comrades, friends she'd lived through hell with, all dead or dying before her.
Non-con under the cut!!
- Woman who's susceptible to mind control spells being told by her magic-using significant other that they'd never use their magic on her. She believes them until she notices all the markings on her body that she doesn't remember. Bite marks and hickeys and the sticky feeling of come between her thighs. She asks her partner about it and they smile, tell her she's overreacting, and use their powers on her again. It's more fun if she remains ignorant they think with a happy smile.
- Woman sentenced to death for the murder of a Lord who's assaulted by the prison guards. It's in a very public cell where everyone can see, but because the Lord was very loved, no one cares; some even cheer the guards on. When she's dragged out for her crucifixion she's naked, evidence of numerous assaults all over her body. As she hangs there, dying, the final thing she hears is the jeers of the crowd.
- Elfen street rat kid who needs to steal everything just to survive. Swiping food from merchants and coin-purses from nobles, sleeping in alleys and under doorways gets caught by a member of the Royal Guard. They leer at her and tell her she has a choice: 'serve' them or get the beating of her lifetime. As her ribs crack the guard tells her she can change her mind anytime. She hates herself when she gives in.
- Thief who's part of a guild gets a job to steal an ancient tome of spells from a wizard's tower. She succeeds in the theft but the next day she is betrayed by the rest of the guild. As she's handed over to the guards, she sees her former teammates grinning in victory. Later that night, as the guards hold her down and violate her, she vows she'll burn the thieves guild to the ground.
- Student at a magic academy who goes to one of the instructors for help with her Summoning homework. The teacher grins and tells her that first she should be aware of the potential dangers of summoning. The woman laughs at first because she's been a student for years, she knows that. Later, as the tentacles from the demon her teacher summoned violate her she looks at them, eyes wet with betrayal. As the demon drags her away, she understands why so many students had gone missing.
