a long overdue message from vera;
levireynolds
“Dana said it would always be easier if my family back home just thought I was dead–because I’d never be able to be around them without trying to hurt them,” he explained quietly. “So it’s just been Dana and Cole, since she made me.” A small smile appeared on Levi’s lips at Elias’ words, and he shook his head. “I always thought anger made people more honest.”
levi’s story was full of tragedy, hope, transformation -- elias already felt his fingers itching to write, to craft a tale inspired by him. perhaps that was where the appeal lay when it came to the baby vampire. “i hope not,” elias chuckled dryly, thinking to words both he and duke had said in the heat of anger. “maybe it’s just easier to believe they don’t. i like the easy way around things. come on -- drink.”

“As if you’ve ever expected anything more from me.” Duke grumbled, opening the already packed suitcase to throw the bottle inside. It had been easier to leave the first time; Dana had been screaming and Sol had been… Terrifying. It had been easy to pull her away from the dangerous scene. Without the adrenaline, Duke didn’t know if he could walk away.
“the packed bag was certainly a surprise, i never expected that,” elias confessed, glancing down to regain control over his emotions, arms crossing defensively across his chest. he wouldn’t chase after duke this time -- and if he did walk out the doors, elias would be done with the other forever. he didn’t say it, but the look in his eyes was hopefully enough to convey the message. “no one is making you do anything. you’ve made it clear you felt controlled under this roof, so now we stopped -- everything that you do from now on is on you alone.”

as soon as he brought up the temperature, she tugged at her sleeves to make sure her arms were covered. “oh, um. a little. that’s why i’m in the sun.” red hoped elias would accept her small lie and not question her any further, gaze shifting away from him nervously in an attempt to break off the conversation.
opening his mouth to press further, elias hesitated, choosing not to rush it at the moment. she’d been acting odd -- they all had. “i’m becoming depressed,” he admitted blandly, sounding more sad than bored. “i don’t things will ever be the same again, and i’m too old for change.”

“You are awfully difficult to refuse,” Adriana answered, a smile on her own lips as she looked at the other vampire. “And I can be equally persuasive. I think with a combined effort, we might round everyone up.” She considered his suggestion. “What sort of bribe?”
pride shone on elias’ ghosting grin, and he gave a humble shrug. “it’s my special charm,” he mused, and it wasn’t false. his compulsion powers on humans were fiercely strong, and even with vampires, he found himself able to sway a decision. but with family, he avoided forcing his desires. “blood, sex, and rock ‘n roll?” he offered, a small laugh echoing his words.

“That’s what Cole says,” Levi answered absent-mindedly, though his expression hardened and he added: “–said.” He looked at Elias for a long moment, and then spoke softly, “I really didn’t know what was going on–I knew some of it, I guess, but not most of it. I didn’t know it was going to be the way it was. I didn’t know anyone was going to get hurt. I would’ve…” he trailed off, considering the validity of what he intended on saying. Had he known the true intentions of his companions, he wasn’t sure that he would’ve done anything–or that he would’ve been able to do anything. He had been so certain that he needed them, and he was still uncertain that it wasn’t the case now that he was without them. “…Separation does hurt,” he simply agreed, nodding solemnly. “It fucking sucks.”
though the mention of cole made elias bristle in rage, he kept his smile in place, running his hand to rub lightly across levi’s back. perhaps elias was as selfish as he feared -- losing cole hadn’t occurred to him from the point of view that levi must have. “you lost a friend through this, didn’t you?” elias asked, biting his lip. “you are not to be held at blame for your companion’s actions, nor are you discriminated against for your loyalties, well, lingering as they may be. ignore what the others may say--” elias paused, looking seriously at levi. “emotions are high right now. words said in anger are seldom truly felt.”

Duke knew, in the very back of his mind, that Elias wasn’t telling him to leave. He wasn’t kicking him out, but fuck, it felt like it. He’d fought so hard to bring him home, but Duke was too much for him now. He paused, staring down at his shoes for a moment while he thought it over. “Fine.” Once in his room, Duke grabbed his suitcase out from under his bed.
still standing in the hall, elias waited, curious when he heard a bang from the floor. concerned, he pressed open the door, eyes landing on the suitcase. “seems like you’ve been looking for a reason to run. guess i really am the scum of the earth itself, no?”
levireynolds
“…Thank you.” Levi felt incredibly sheepish as he looked at the gifts Elias extended to him. First Sol, and now the other vampire–while the fledgling knew he wasn’t exactly at fault for the drama that had gone on in the home, he also knew that his loyalty to the offenders was well-known. He felt guilty for it all. “Is this all the blood you drink at once? This little amount?” Levi inquired curiously as he looked at the well-crafted vials. He was used to draining bodies, and this didn’t look like it would compare. He looked at the gifts a moment, chewed his lower lip as he thought, and then began slowly: “…I get that there’s a sire bond. I know that.” He knew very little about it, but he knew it existed. “But I’ve been in love before. This is how it feels, multiplied by like…one thousand. It isn’t fake.”
a sad smile crossed elias’ lips, and he tentatively patted levi’s shoulder. “you’ll learn control, hunger management, all of those things. it comes with time,” he began, a long sigh escaping his lips. he also knew love -- and heartbreak, which he’d been experiencing recently with duke. “as will a broken heart heal with time, though for us, it takes a long time. i don’t doubt your love for her is true. she seems to illicit that sort of reaction. sire bond aside, i do understand your feelings. separation... it hurts.” his eyes lowered, licking his lips, surprised at the confession from the heart.

Duke wanted to punch something, start breaking things again. No matter how hard he tried, he wasn’t going to win back the trust of any of his family members. They were already choosing some random over him. “How about you invite Levi instead?” He snapped, grabbing a bottle of whiskey. “I won’t burden you by opening my mouth anymore.”
“if you really think we are all so terrible to you, that i’m an awful person to you specifically,” elias continued, following him, stirring his tea to keep his hands occupied. “if you really think we have replaced you -- then don’t be with me. i have done nothing but prove my love, my loyalty, especially these past weeks. yet, you see me as someone terrible, and act as if we treat you the way you treat us. don’t be with me if you feel mistreated.”

“A party would be nice,” Adriana agreed. “A chance to liven up is necessary, I think. As is the need to get out of the house,” she pointed out. "We all need to get out together. Find a few parties to sneak into.”
“well, hopefully we can rally the troops, no?” elias smiled, obviously finding a better spirit at the idea of it all. it may be difficult, getting everyone out of the door and together. but elias felt confident. “maybe a bribe would work.”

“And we’re back to calling what I think nonsense.” Duke laughed bitterly, shaking his head. “I don’t know why I thought coming to you about this was a good idea.” He grumbled, walking back into the house and decidedly away from his boyfriend.
my god, elias felt a headache coming on already. how had the bitch turned him into such an insufferable boyfriend? “if the only party you want to attend is your eternal pity one, then fine. as for me, i’m going out tonight, and as always, i’d love your company. like we used to do -- before it all got ruined. i am not doing this shit with you for another week, so either come or don’t, but if you chose to give in to my desires, leave the attitude home.”
adrianarousseau
“It is getting stuffy in there with misery, isn’t it?” Adriana commented, gesturing with the hand that held her cigarette to the nearby home. She hummed at his suggestion. “You want to throw a party, or you want to find a party?”
a boyish smile crossed elias’ face. “does it really matter which?” he proposed, though it would be hard to escape the home without causing a stir. yet, bringing in several partiers would be an issue, as well. oh, how he pissed the past -- parties solved everything then.

Duke stayed silent for a long moment, glancing down at Elias’ hand. It would be easy to just listen to him and shut up, to put up the presence of the fucking zombie, but he wasn’t in the mood. Everything they’d built over the year, the closeness, it felt like it was falling apart. “Remind me, then, why you brought me back here if you’ve already found your replacement.”
now elias wished he’d thrown some whiskey into his glass, and stared down with a frown at the suddenly unappealing iced drink. “alright, alright,” he sighed, shaking his head as the frown deepened. “i’m in no mood for that nonsense. we didn’t work so hard to get you back if we had a replacement, now would we?”

she still hadn’t told anyone of her missing memories during their vacation although she believed that something malicious occurred during that time. red had been wearing long sleeves to cover the bruises and pin pricks that littered her arms; some of these pin pricks have seemed to have become infected and are spreading red streaks up her her arms. “hmm? no nothing’s wrong. just enjoying the fresh air.”
“mhm,” elias answered, though his tone was disbelieving. he took notice of her clothing, and raised an eyebrow and he took a drink of his iced tea. “are you cold?” the question was genuine -- he’d never thought about how weather would affect a hybrid such as herself. cold never affected him, but heat did, it was unbearable.
levireynolds
Although it had been more than clear to Levi that Duke did not like him, the fledgling didn’t think the older vampire had outright lied to him. When he said that Dana was not intending on coming back, and that the road she was headed on was filled with dangers…he was inclined to believe. It didn’t help the feeling he was left with; like Dana had personally clawed at his chest until he’d been left hollowed out. He felt a little guilty for occupying the space of the others, but his own mounting sadness had left him mostly blind to it. “Huh?” Levi spoke, his brows rising as he turned to look at the elder vampire. “…That’s for me?”
a simple nod answered levi’s question, and since he didn’t seem keen on moving, elias allowed himself into the room and pulled out a fancy vial of blood. in the bag were two more, plus three bags from the special reserve. “you need to eat, and practice self-care,” elias explained, holding out now the vial and starbucks drink to him. “trust me, it will help. this shall pass, but in the meantime...”

Duke froze for a moment, processing his words. It wasn’t a challenge, necessarily, but Elias already disagreed with him. “How can you be okay keeping him around after what happened? Isn’t he the representation of everything you hate about Dana?” He asked voice raising only slightly. “He’s going to be loyal to her until she finds someone else to turn. What if he goes after Sol?”
“he won’t,” elias answered confidently, patting the seat beside him to encourage duke to sit. standing like that -- made it all too serious, and the older vampire simply wanted to relax. “besides, i have a good feeling it won’t be long before she does turn someone. dana didn’t strike me as someone meant to be alone for long. i’m not worried, and neither should you be. if the roles were reversed, you’d want the same we are giving to him.”
