love yaāll
adrianarousseau.
āI know,ā she answered.Ā āI listened to the messages you left.ā Pressing a quick kiss to his lips, she added:Ā āand I missed you.ā His words drew a raised brow out of the vampire, and she hummed a note of curiosity.Ā āSomething for me?ā
Duke winced.Ā āIām sorry. I was...ā Drunk. Heād spent several nights partying and get wasted, only to end up sobbing on the phone. Levi whispering that they should go home while he dragged Duke to bed.Ā āUh, yeah.ā He cleared his throat and moved to the car to grab the box before returning in a flash.Ā āHere.ā
es glevireynolds.
Levi nodded at Dukeās recounting of their trip, though it was obvious heād left out several details that the younger vampire mightāve considered major. But heād leave the talking to the elder, he supposed, until he had firmer standing in the household. His lips pulled up to one corner, and he nodded again.Ā āI get it. And Iām all for it. Fix shit with the family.ā
āI just need to make sure weāre all on the same page.ā Duke kept talking, letting his nerves get to him. He didnāt know if the rest of the family would be angry with him; running off and hooking up with the fledgling heād taken with him. Maybe theyād think he took advtange of Levi. Maybe he had, a little.Ā āI donāt want anyone thinking I left them just to have you to myself.ā Duke paused, glancing over at him.Ā āNot that I mind.ā
bloodxwitch.
She was trying to brew herself some tea (by hand cause magic was being a little shit to her) but was interrupted but the strange man in the kitchen.Ā āIāve never met you before in my life. How long have you been living in this house?ā
āLonger than youāve been alive.ā Duke joked, but the words came out feeling bitter. How had they all gone a month without realizing how bad things had gotten? Had Adriana known?Ā āDo you remember anyone else who lives here?ā
bloodxwitch.
Paris was just the start of it. The redheaded witch had been experiencing temporary amnesia over the past month and began to forget simple spells. Red had woken up with a terrible headache, traipsing to the kitchen to brew herself some tea (by hand of course since she couldnāt remember her spell for fire); her gaze perked up when she heard footsteps approaching, looking at the figure quizzically before speaking up. āWho are you?āĀ
Duke was excited to see everyone, but after Giaās warning at the door, he was afraid of what heād find. Things were fucked up, sheād said. Red was acting weird. When he stepped into the kitchen and finally laid eyes on her, he froze. Who was he? Duke searched her expression, trying to find some hint at a joke, but no. She was asking.Ā āDuke.ā He told her slowly, taking a few steps towards her.Ā āYou donāt remember me?ā
.levireynolds
āā¦Theyāll probably want to know something about what weāve been doing these past couple of weeks,ā Levi replied with a sheepish smile. The fledgling vampire was still not close with the family, and so his anticipations could be based only off of what he expected out of most people.Ā āBut, Iāll tell you whatāIāll just follow your lead. We can keep down whatever you want to keep down.āĀ
āWe hunted Dana. We found her. You were released from your sire bond, I was released from my friendship.ā He shrugged, listing all of the things theyād done. In truth, he was leaving quite a few things off the list. Theyād fed together, on one another. Theyād lied in bed together and smoke quietly in a hotel room all to themselves. Theyād... built something. āI just want to get back to normal first.ā Duke clarified, moving his hand to Leviās hip and squeezing gently.
adrianarousseau.
Adriana hadnāt been a witness to the final argument that had prompted Dukeās decision to leaveāand it had been trying, to say the least, when sheād come home to learn the news from Eliasābut it had been obvious that something needed to change. Sheād hoped that the change couldāve happened together, but if heād accomplished it apart heād accomplished it all the same. Maybe heād finally gained that same sense of autonomy sheād sent him away for decades earlier.Ā As he stood before her, she looked up at himāher expression neutral and unassuming. It could have been easy to react angrily, or to start in on a line of questionsā¦but truthfully, she was just glad to see him again. There could be time for all the rest later.Ā She returned him smile with a small smile of her own, and reached out her hands to brush against his cheeks.Ā āAlright,ā she resolved.Ā āWelcome home.ā
Duke grinned, moving forward to press a slow kiss to her lips.Ā āIāve missed you.ā He whispered softly, against her lips. Adriana was easily one of the only good things to come out of his life as a vampire. Not being around her drove him insane; it was even worse than being around her when they fought.Ā āI brought you something, actually.ā
giaguillory.
āYeah, probably. Though, seriouslyāI thought you were gone for good.ā She scoffed at his mention of drinking the alcohol, and shook her head.Ā āNo, there arenāt many other functioning alcoholics around these days.ā When he posed his question, she sighed and glanced back towards the house.Ā āāCause shit is still fucked up, thatās why. Something happened in Paris, but I donāt know what. I donāt even know if my coven entirely knows. But your hybrid witchāthe one whoās half leechāsheās weird.ā
āFirst thing you need to learn about the people in this house,ā Duke smiled down at her good-naturedly.Ā āWe never leave each other for good.ā For the most part, that was true. There were people who had come and gone over the years, but those who remained now were family. Loyal through and through. At least, Duke was pretty sure.Ā āRed?ā He asked, smiling dropping.Ā āWhat do you mean?ā
giaguillory.
As someone with far less invested in the clan as opposed to the other family members, Gia had taken Duke and Leviās departure from the home at face-value. She wasnāt exactly thrilled that the two vampires had flown the coop, but she didnāt invest any feelings of real sadness eitherānot when there was plenty more to be worried over. Still, she couldnāt help but to feel almost pleasantly surprised to see their returnāthough as she walked out to the car theyād arrived in, she retained an aloof expression. Leaning against the car, she quirked a brow.Ā āI wonder which is weirderāthe fact that youāre back, or that Iām still fucking here.āĀ
Duke grinned, leaning against the car and facing her.Ā āYou being here.ā He admitted, arms crossing over his chest.Ā āYou didnāt think Iād let you drink all the alcohol in there without me, did you?ā A soft chuckle escaped him as he smiled down at her, his expression fond.Ā āWhy are you still here?ā
adrianarousseau.
Adriana had hardly welcomed Dukeās decision to leave, but she had made the painful choice to allow him to ride it out as far as it would take him. Dana had accused the family of controlling his choices and preventing him from making his own mistakesāand while Adriana decidedly hated the woman, there was a grain of truth to be found. And so, for as much as his evident absence and troubling voicemails wounded her, Adriana did nothing. When he was gone for a month, she began to question how good of a choice that might have been.Ā The sudden return of the car to the driveway mightāve sent Adrianaās heart into a tizzy if it still beatāand even without it, she could swear her hands shook as she reached for the door and turned the knob. The vampire stood on the front porch and watched as the two younger men left the car, and she wondered what she ought to sayāand she wondered what Duke expected her to say. Unable to decide the appropriate words, she decided instead to wait. Dropping down on the porch, she sat and observed quietly.Ā
Duke grabbed both suitcases from the trunk of the car, before slamming it shut. He looked up, eyes immediately locking on the small figure sitting on the porch. In his chest, he felt the pang of something painful. A mixture of guilt and grief and longing. There was a part of him that wanted to turn and run again. Far away from Adriana, their home, the conversation that heād be forced to sit down and have with her.Ā
But, more than that, he was relieved to see her at all. Even after so long together, decades at one anotherās side, Duke found it hard to spend more than a day without her. Or Elias. Or the others. They were his family. When heād left, Duke felt like heād let them down more than he could ever make up for. It had hurt him so much heād rather escape than fix it.Ā ā... Adriana.ā He mumbled, dropping the bags onto the ground and moving to stand infront of her in an instant.Ā
There was a moment of hesitation, a pause where he looked her over and wondered if he even dared to touch her.Ā āIām so sorry,Ā ma chĆ©rie.ā Duke breathed, kneeling in front of her and giving her a hopeful smile.Ā āIām done throwing my tantrum.ā
levireynolds.
āOf course itāll be fine.ā The fledgling offered a cheeky grin to the vampire in the seat beside him as they pulled up to the home, though he felt as though heād put a slight act on. Levi had been encouraging Duke to return home since heād initially pulled out of the driveway weeks earlierāand though he was still confident that Duke would be welcomed back, the reality remained that he didnāt know the others very well. He only hoped that the idea he had of the family stretched into a reality.Ā āYouāre kidding, right? Theyāre gonna lose their shit. In a good way!ā
Jumping out of the car, Levi came around to the back and looked down at the two bags. Clasping a hand onto Dukeās shoulder, he smiled again.Ā āWhy donāt you let me do it?ā He nodded in the direction of the house, and added:Ā āyou should probably go inside, see everyone, you know?ā
āThey might.ā Duke admitted with a grin, leaning into Leviās touch a little. He looked over at him, eyes moving over her face thoughtfully. There were a lot of things that had changed over the past month and how he felt about Levi was probably the most shocking.Ā ā... I should.ā Duke bit his lip, glancing up at the house before leaning towards him.Ā āDo you think we can keep some of this between us for now?ā He asked lowly, reaching to hook two fingers into one of his beltloops.Ā āPlease?ā
āItāll be fine, Levi.ā Duke was saying to Levi as they pulled up to the mansion. Heād forgotten how much he missed the smell, the aesthetic, the way it made him feel. The two of them had been gone for a little over a month and not much had changed except now the humidity was even more thick. He sighed, parking and stepping out of the car. The sun was low in the sky, casting an almost angelic glow over the land. As if the sky was trying to remind him how magical home could feel.Ā
He slammed the door shut and looked over at Levi, a small smile on his lips. "They probably won't even care that we're back." Duke shrugged, going to grab his suitcase from the trunk. In his heart of hearts, he knew that wasn't true. Their family was too close, shared too much, for them to suddenly not care anymore. If anything, they'd be happy to have Levi and they'd tolerate Duke.Ā
But he'd never underestimate their ability to be kind.
"Do you want me to carry this for you?" He called when the trunk swung up, revealing both of their bags.Ā
