Carol finally dealing with her losses and really feeling her pain is not “rehashing” her storyline at all. In fact I feel it’s the opposite of that.

We’ve seen Carol go through hardship. We’ve seen Carol run. We’ve seen Carol hide. We’ve seen her pretend and we’ve seen her accept the countless terrible things happening to her and everyone else.

She picked up and moved on after Sophia. She stayed silent after Lizzie, Mikah and later Sam. Losing Henry in such a violent way decommissioned her whole world and she will most likely try to pick up and carry on.

The difference this time is that she has the right someone with her to see through her moving-on-act and in turn both facilitate her inevitable breakdown and help supervise the aftermath.

That someone is Daryl and was always going to be Daryl because Daryl is the one person she can’t hide her true self from. He knows her best and cares about her the most and with him around her grief won’t be able to fall through the cracks again.

Basically the show is once again going to remind its entire audience that Carol and Daryl are still and always have been each other’s person.

And it will be glorious.
