Did a monastery-focused playthrough of Foundation. It had nice clear goals and restrictions, and I managed to binge my way through it in two play sessions (today's being rather lengthy). It had a high splendour amount to reach for the final goal, so I did a lot of extra decorating around the place. And since some of the better decorations add up fast, I also built myself a pretty large treasury building so that I could pay for some of the pricier areas I decorated. The single most expensive purchase I made was adding decor to a large cloister area, which totalled a bit over 2.5k treasure - in the final aerial view it's the enclosed space at far left, you also see the visiting Abbess sitting in it in the second last screenshot above.
Her visit was... entertaining. She brought a lot bigger entourage along than I'd expected, and they basically filled up all the available spaces in my hospitium before she even made it to the door, and then kept taking over spaces as pilgrims moved on. Luckily she was visiting for a good long time, so I was able to throw together a second hospitium building elsewhere, which gave me enough space for her entire group plus all the guest abbots & abbesses she invited over to have a religious conference. Who then tried to eat the cupboard bare. Good thing they were staying long enough for some merchants to deliver extra boars and cheese and so forth.
Then the Abbess wanted me to bail out her favourite merchant after he'd had some bad luck. And also wanted to be a wine snob about our local vintage (which met her standards). I managed to get her up to 130% happy by the time her visit finally ended.
I don't think I'm going to try the military-focused goals campaign any time soon; this feels like enough Foundation for now. Time to get back to LotRO and NMS and so forth.
