Exercise 10

This is an example of minimalism.  It uses a simple logo to represent part of the movie and nothing more.

This movie poster utilizes white space to make the viewer focus on the other graphics.  It appeals to the eye because the graphic is not as cluttered.

This website uses graphic simplicity.  It is not cluttered or use crazy graphics.  It just uses very simple, or basic, graphics and sticks to a simple color scheme.

I enjoyed working on designing something with multiple components.  I like how my graphics turned out a lot.

I enjoyed doing this project and sampling what colors within different color schemes that I thought made the picture samples look best. I thought that the purple from the colored boxes made the orange and yellows stand out more.r

I like this project because it showed me the many different ways that type can be utilized and create the graphic instead.  It made me realize that it is not always about the pictures and editing that make the graphic but also all of the 'little' details.

I really enjoyed doing this exercise. I had a lot of fun picking out fonts that went along with the clip art I chose and I even tried picking out a clip art that went along with the fonts I chose first. I tried to find fonts/clip art that had similar features and if there weren’t any, I edited them. For example, I took the white mark from the ‘B’ in the Buffalo Zoo type and added it to the elephant.

For this page, the center of the page is actually the center of the image as well.  There are equal margins located on both sides which make it easy on the eye.  The golden ratio would be the margins to the image without the overlay.  The margins on each side are where the information is located and since they are smaller compared to the background image, it is easier to follow the reading.

The first cover has a complementary color scheme, while the middle shows split complementary and the one to the right shows an analogous color scheme.  I really enjoyed this exercise because it allowed me to see that different color schemes can really make a piece look better and different ones can suit different people's preferences.  I also enjoyed picking out the fonts to see what looked best with the colors and the picture I decided to use.

The text:            I really enjoyed this piece when I found it.  After analyzing it, it shows some concepts that we had covered in class.   First of all, it did not have a clear background so I decided to blur out the sea and clouds so that I could focus more on the foreground that includes the grass and people.

           It is important to focus on the foreground because this is where the focal point is.  The people in this painting are the focal points.  As you look at the painting, you are immediately drawn to them, especially the one with the umbrella.

            Second, the painting shows a few basic shapes.  These shapes include a circle, triangle, and rectangle.  Both of the people’s heads in this painting are circles although somewhat hidden behind the one’s hat and the other is not a perfect circle due to her hair flowing.  The triangle comes from the orange umbrella that the one woman is holding.  Both bodies of the people are rectangular.

            I chose to use the Monotype Corsive text font because I thought the curving letters went well with the fields having a little curve to it.

Before this exercise, I never realized how much thought some artists and designers have put into their work.  I'm glad that we had done this exercise because it showed me that these grids helped determine placement.

Exercise #1

I really liked these exercises because we had more freedom to do the task however we wanted.  It was fun and interesting to see what ideas I had and how they looked on paper. It was nice to draw somethings out and showed how sketching first is better than going right into photoshop or any other program.
