Project 02A: Plyboo Wall- Catalogs, Spring 2015

Brief: Create a wall out of your specific material. Study your randomly assigned material (plyboo- plywood bamboo), find out how its made. Challenge your definition of a wall.

Concept: Plyboo is made of bamboo, a rapidly renewable material. It is assembled through many smoothed, layered components, adhered by Soybond, which is 100% formaldehyde free. My concept for this wall is to create an opportunity to interact. In the more compressed area of the wall, you are interacting with the wall by occupying it. As the wall becomes more open, your interaction with the wall decreases as you begin to interact with others through the opening.

Project 01: The Smallest Room, Information Kiosk for the Blind, Spring 2015

(Process, and interior vs. exterior)

Brief: Create the smallest room with a specific program out of recycle sheet metal from old lithography printing plates. Must be a structure made out of modules, in human scale. Maximum size: 4 ft x 4 ft x 8 ft.

Program: Information Kiosk for the Blind | Structure based off the swinging of a blind person's cane to help with their familiarity of a curvilinear movement. Modules were designed to maximize the surface area in the interior of the structure, and layered in a way so that allows a smooth reading of braille from left to right.

Project 04: Saxophone House, Fall 2014

Brief: Create a live-work space for a musician. Site: East Hall Drawing room. Design a specific program based off the lifestyle/daily routines of your client (saxophonist). Create a space according to a system you found within your musician or instrument. Consider program adjacencies and private and public spaces.

Concept: Client is a saxophone player who is visiting campus to be closer to the restaurants he plays smooth jazz in during the evening. Program adjacencies based off the separation of public and private spaces. The form is from many studies inspired by the movement of the "sway" of a saxophone player.

Project 03: Chiffon Tunnel- Catalogs, Fall 2014

Brief: Create a time lapse for the hallway to studio for a period of 72 hours and observe. Find any illuminated manuscript in the Book of Hours, and diagram. From observations and diagrams, create an installation in the hallway that conforms to what you intend for your audience.

Concept: Make people walked towards the window to look outside and remember there is a world out there, since this hallway is between two studios and we only go there to do our work. Chiffon curtains hang from the ceiling and vary in height, getting higher as one moves toward the windows. It is intended for the first curtains to sweep the tops of peoples heads so they move to a more open space to be more comfortable, leading them to the window, where the chiffon openings are the highest. Layers are visible as the sunlight filters through.
