me
Staring into your eyes was so easy before.
The way your irises glinted with happiness and fondness
I loved looking at them because they remind me of the bouquet of flowers you would come home with.
And yet, those very same eyes shifted to hate and anger.
Maybe that’s why we had to create a word to describe a past.
“before”, laced with sadness, just because it was not a path worth reminiscing.
I believe it was the spark that kindled in me when I first met you.
At that time, I took it as a positive sign.
After all, I often confuse (bad) instincts with infatuation and butterflies.
so, it was too late.
I believe I loved you, but the bruising marks on my skin that littered across my skin like lilacs on a dying field every time shouts and screams were exchanged--
proved that sparks don’t always mean what you think they mean.
Its pathetic-- the way I willingly decided to love you. Its pathetic-- because there was nothing else in this world that told me that I shouldn’t. although, there was. you slipped through my fingers, and I ignored it. Its pathetic-- because maybe, if I did, the thought wouldn’t exist. Its pathetic-- the way I willingly decided to lose you.
I told him I fell out of love today. He told me it was fine but his friends sent glares towards my way Its something i cant control, but there were flaws I couldn’t accept. And it led to the conclusion that it would’ve been better-- if he left instead. I told him I fell out of love the other day. My mum found me crying so she sent flowers on my way And if I had to convince myself that I still had something left for him, then that’d make me a liar, with guilt seeping through my skin.
