It is completely valid to not want to date a mentally ill person because they're mentally ill and because of the disorders that they may have. It's not ableist or anything, it's genuinely just personal preference just as everything else is.

However, if you decide to date someone mentally ill, knowing you wont be able to handle it then that is completely ON YOU. YOU decided to date the person despite knowing they're mentally ill and if in the future you suddenly decide that you cant handle it anymore then I genuinely believe that that does make you the bad guy in this kind of situation. You would be risking a huge impact on yours and the other persons mental health and it's not okay.
