the MUSIC of the DRAGONS that had helped MATATH break out of her egg had fallen SILENT. or she’d become DEAF to it. either way, the DRAGON had lost her only source of companionship - or what could have become companionship. a DRAGON all alone in the WORLD was a terrible thing && MATATH made sure the WORLD knew of her sorrows. her CRIES echoed over the empty skies wherever she flew, though her small form was almost always hidden by the DARKNESS of the NIGHT or passing clouds.
the few people who did see her didn’t believe their eyes && before they could find ANOTHER person, MATATH was gone.
the DRAGON turned NORTH, looking for a region of sparse population where she could HUNT in peace && stay for a while.
it took her MONTHS to reach the NORTH && she’d passed her second nameday - only that she had no idea of such things - when her SHADOW flew over WINTERFELL one quiet NIGHT. the HORSES neighed && the DOGS barked at MATATH’s sight but the DRAGON ignored them.
she swooped down && snatched up a lone LAMB standing on the open field behind WINTERFELL. with the animal crushed between her jaws, MATATH landed on a nearby ROCK && began eating; the first GOOD food in her stomach for at least two MONTHS.
after this, she thought, she could fly further NORTH. she’d seen a large structure when she’d been up in the SKY && was curious about it. logically, the further NORTH - the further into the COLD - she went, the less people she should encounter, right ?
