30. Sweet Tooth

My son will try anything to get his sweet tooth fix, and he knows just what to say to get his way around his grandparents! When he was a little baby, he preferred more tart things and not sweet things. Now excuse me while I get some dessert. I swear he didn’t get his sweet tooth from me!

29. Enjoy the Moment

I took my daughter out to play,She wasn’t yet two years old.

Although it was a day in April, it was still a little cold.

“I need to be a good parent,” I thought, “and stimulate her mind.”

I brought all sorts of things to do - toys and games of all kinds.

Imagine my surprise, then, when she took no interest in these.

Instead she gazed up at the sky, smiling and completely at ease.

It was as if she wanted to signal what a ‘good parent’ should really be.

“Stop worrying so much,” she seemed to say, “stay and enjoy the moment with me.”

28. Parenting in a Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has been challenging for many of us. Although I don’t think that there was really anything that truly prepared us for it, there are certain parallels that I couldn’t help but see between the current situation and becoming a parent. To say they are both life-changing circumstances would be an understatement!

The times that I have had to work from home due to the pandemic had a few rough days, but the universe always has a way of giving us just enough to get through!

26. Work From Home Problems

Since the pandemic hit, working from home has become a necessity, and brings with it its own office humour! My son loves to pop his head into the camera and show his toys to my wife’s colleagues.

24. Meditation

Since becoming a father, my brain has changed. I think it is the lack of sleep, but my thoughts are not as clear as they used to be (and I can’t hear myself THINK!). Still, one thing that is constant is that on some level, I always find myself thinking about my kids. My mom says that this never stops! Sometimes I find that it is worry, and other times it is a fond remembrance that makes me smile during the day.

23. An Odd Request

My son has gotten used to seeing himself in these cartoons. When I draw one, he looks at it and tells me what is happening in each panel (and most of the time he guesses it right, which is awesome!). One day, he asked me if I could make him a cartoon (and yes...this is what he asked for!). Still, it was really neat for me to see how excited he was to be in a cartoon. This is why I draw these!

22. Puddles

My daughter did this one evening at home. We couldn’t be upset - it was too cute.

21. The Right Temperature

Sometimes I think that my son was royalty in a past life, or that someone told him that parents are servants, not parents. He has this funny habit of asking us “is it the right temperature?” before he tries any of his food. If the food is even the least bit WARM (note: not hot...even lukewarm is too warm!), he thinks it’s too hot and doesn’t want to eat it!

20. Stair Champion

The first time my daughter climbed the stairs by herself, we were SO proud, and so what she! The huge smile on her face was so heartwarming. You could tell that she worked hard to climb those stairs! When my son was learning to climb, he was even more determined (he always seems to want to be able to do things that people older than himself can do, and that seems to motivate him to try!).

19. Dancing

The odd times when both my kids are being nice to one another and having fun playing are the best times :). It’s been cool to see how they interact as time goes on! When my daughter was still a newborn, she couldn’t really “play” with my son but he would still be curious and would try to play or make her laugh. Now that they are a bit older, the way they interact has changed again. How quickly time flies!

My daughter says “happa” when she gives us a high five. She also thinks a hot cup of tea is “happa.”

Yes, this really happened. How does such a big noise come from such a little person? Who knows...

15. Privacy

My son has the most hilarious double standards - privacy being one of them! He will ask us to leave when he has to use the washroom, but when he’s done, he needs help and will call us back. He doesn’t allow us the same level of privacy!

14. Happy Place

What is it with kids and boxes? My daughter has more fun with the packaging a toy comes in, rather than the actual toy! It’s always fun to see how much she laughs when climbing into a box.
