Vault 117 was a failed experimental vault that experimented Wasteland survival using radiated size and stature. However some of the dwellers grew too unstable and broke out into the surface, exposing the vault while the landfall killed a majority of Vault dwellers. The remaining survivors and dwellers now surround the remains of the Vault, killing most trespassers and are too strong to take down even in power armor.

So that Fallout 76 went off to a hilariously bad start, and proving the industry has learned nothing from similar online game launches before it… dosen’t stop us from making our own bullshit lore out of the other ones!

I had this idea on the back-burner back when Fallout 4 was coming out, blocked it out even, but never got around to working on it because it would require all this heavy detail work and heavy character work I’d have to put time into. Then years later when news of 76 was coming out, it was encouragement to get back to figuring out how would I do this. Years inbetween roughing this and finally doing it, the Vault number I originally had was officially used by DLC in a Fallout game, so I went one number down.

Maybe Fallout 76 will improve soon but we certainty got wound up in Todd’s charisma, didn’t we?, to overlook the red flags about the game’s undecided direction, co-op primary focus when not a lot of people were interested in the end, and the old engine Bethesda said themselves wasn’t built to support online games. By the time the “bullshit marketing beta” dropped in way too close before the game’s release… oops!
