So how does the terrible boyfriend AU work? Is Freddy a regular human?

No, he’s not. Freddy is still a dream demon. This AU is a continuation of the 2010 remake film. Nancy’s mother did not actually die and that nightmare was written off as trauma in the aftermath of “killing” Freddy. Quentin and Nancy drift apart as there was nothing of substance to their relationship. After graduation, Quentin leaves Springwood behind. Springwood’s slasher, however, does not leave Quentin behind. He begins to show up in Quentin’s dreams before eventually manifesting physically in Quentin’s apartment.

Interacting with his favorite children again Freddy quickly learned that Quentin had grown up as the more fun and interesting one, so he left Nancy (still visits her dreams from time to time) and focused more on Quentin. He views Quentin as property and loves him in the way one might love a pet. Though he’s still cruel and violent to Quentin, this blog focuses more on the ostentatious parts of Freddy’s personality and the lighter parts of their relationship. Quentin experiences a sort of stockholm syndrome when it comes to Freddy and has more or less accepted his presence.

Freddy is able to exist on two overlapping planes of reality at the same time, his own in the “dream world” and also in the waking world. Other people can see and interact with him in the waking world, and he can interact with objects in a normal way. He still has the ability to teleport and shapeshift within the waking world. When someone falls asleep, they can perceive what he’s created in the dream world. Here his full powers can be perceived, such as shapeshifting others, telekinesis, etc.

Basically he’s in both of these planes at once. It’s based on what plane of reality the OTHER person is in on what they can perceive and thus what he can do to them. He can’t be pulled out of the dream state, because he’s always out of it. He’s always in it as well. (doesn’t mean he can’t make you THINK you’ve pulled him out, though.)
