it’s nothing spectacular, but we are stronger and faster than regular folks so we can protect ourselves and our territory. it’s part of the ceremony you get when you’re old enough, or when you get accepted into the covenant like me.
i don’t think i ever got something like that before my trainer caught me, but i still have these powers like you guys do…
oh, really? hmm… then i guess it has to do with why the older covenant members think you’re so special. and dangerous.

”Byul...” Levy hesitates as he reaches out towards the luxray. “I...you...I...” He stumbles through his words as he tries to figure out what to say to the other pokemon.
“They reminded me of home,” he finally settles on as he quietly gestures to the young shinx. “I didn’t want to leave and found myself wanting to learn more about the covenant...”
“Never mind that, I’m here now,” Levy looks at Byul earnestly. “Let me help you,” he then shakes his head. “Ah, if you’d prefer I leave, I can do that too.”

“Oh no, I’m not a shinx!” Levy chuckles. “I’m an espurr, native to the Kalos region. I had a lot of younger siblings myself, so while I appreciate your offer of protection, I would much rather protect the two of you!”
“But it sounds like you and your clan have awfully important roles to play - you definitely sound like special pokemon to me.” The espurr replies thoughtfully.
“Maybe I will stick around for a little while longer, if that’s alright with your elders! Being around such a large clan reminds me of home.”

that’s right… if he is indeed the same shinx i knew from my childhood, then i can understand why he may want to return to our birthplace.
[aster straightens herself back up and closes her eyes.]
it was… long ago. we weren’t close, per se, but we were around the same age.
i can remember it clearly. the day he disappeared, it was chaotic. of all the children to go missing, it was him. the older luxrays were always talking about him, how he was chosen for an important role, for an important reason.
of course, he went by a different name back then. we both did, though that’s one thing i’ve forgotten. but what i do remember is the elders sometimes referring to him as the ‘child closest to the sun.’
so, he does have special genes? even though he looks like a normal luxray?
perhaps. he was different enough from the rest of us, at the very least. i don’t know what will happen if he goes back, but i suppose we might find out, won’t we?
