Henceforth joining me on creative endeavors, plots, and new characters is my good pal Lambda (who runs http://yeswriteanswers.tumblr.com/ and is an all around delightful person). It was they who did the colors on these panels (with minor touch ups by me) so lets give them a warm welcome!
I’m looking forward to working with you all again!
After a great deal of meditation, consideration, consultation, deliberation, and other longish words that mean thinking really hard, I’ve made my decision. More after the break.
This blog is getting rebooted, almost from the ground up.
The story progression, such as it is, will reset. You’re still going to be dealing with Primal Voice, but the actual sequence of events will differ. We’ll still be accepting asks, naturally, and the planned update schedule is roughly once every two weeks (adult-ing is hard, guys).
I’m gonna move over to an anthro visual style. As noted before, much as I love ponies constantly drawing ONLY ponies is a tad boring and you can do so much with visual design between clothing, tools, and other fun things about a character.
The biggest change is this: No longer does the mod ride alone. We’ll be introducing a good friend of mine (or their avatar at least) and they will be helping me to develop a proper story and narrative for the blog so that I don’t paint myself into a corner again.
....I want to thank all of you, again. Profoundly, from the bottom of my heart, your support means the world to me, and I’m sorry for letting you down for so long. I can’t continue the blog as it is; it’s just not fun. When something becomes an obligation rather than a lark, it loses its luster rather quickly., but that’s still no excuse for leaving you all hanging for so long after such a span of time. I hope you enjoy what comes. If you don’t, thanks for coming along for as long as you have!
See you in a little while with a bit more information and an introduction.
1 Year of Ask Terracotta Jade! (And 400 Follower celebration)
Today, September 3rd, 2016, marks the end of the first year of me writing and drawing “Ask Terracotta Jade”! It’s strange to consider, since it feels simultaneously like it can’t have been that long, and that it must have been longer- it’s hard to imagine what it was like to not be working on updates, or to not know all the other great blogs I watch and interact with now. I certainly feel like I’ve learned a lot, and have a lot more to learn.
This temporal milestone happily happens to coincide with a follower milestone as well- I just recently reached 400 followers (which pleases me since 400 is twenty twenties: which makes it feel significant since mesoamerican numeral systems are typically base-twenty)
I’d like to thank everyone who has followed me, you’ve all been very supportive, knowing you’re watching has gone a long way towards keeping me motivated me to keep updating. I’ve drawn another follower mural, specifically to commemorate those followers who have sent asks, drawn fanart, and/or regularly reblogged my content. (Don’t worry, I intend to extend the original “follower mural” sometime, if I ever have the time and energy….)
Pictured above roughly from left to right, starting from the top:
@silent-kosmos , @ask-primal-voice , @khunisjirallgeniepony , @hansvogelisdead ‘s Emil (in griffon form. Really hope we get to see him as such in the comic, I’ll be so upset if you’ve killed off best plane), @enderstine , @asklittlebat , @askgargle ‘s Mint Chip, @askbrushwork, @codexes, ,,@asktechnowizard , @secrettimemachine, @elegant-force‘s Astral Arc (soon to be getting her own ask blog drawn by yours truly!), @fetch26291, @ask-the-hobby-store‘s Critical Hit, @asktoolaroola
Additional thanks to the following for fitting in the above category, but not being pictured due to not having a character (or not having one with an easily accessible reference): @loving-bronies, @mlpstffu, @stripe-boi, @themarvelhorse
whoops how did I think this would be done by midnight…)
Well, here we are a week after my last post and no update is present. If I were you guys, I’d be cross with me. Shit, I’m me and I’m cross with me.
Truth is, I’ve been thinking about things. I’ll put a readmore here so as not to clog up folks’ dashes, so hit below the break for my rambling (and boy oh boy is it rambling).
So here we are at over a year of existence and close to 700 followers (despite my lack of progress/skill). I am incredibly humbled by your support and interest in my ornery boy, and I am immensely sorry that I’ve let you all down in that regard.
I should note that I’m not abandoning this blog, so if that’s a worry, fret not. We’ve come too far for it to just fade into nothing (even if strictly speaking we haven’t come that far at all!).
That said...I must confess. I tire of drawing small horses. I’m not done with ponies (far from it!) but I found that everything I drew for months, blog or not, was a pony. This is not bad, necessarily, but it is rather dull, especially as I greatly enjoy drawing people (and clothing and tools and so on), and a lot of other stuff, and it was just honestly getting stale. Now, counterpoint:
Just because I like drawing people does not mean I’m going to abandon pony for it. In fact, thanks to the magic of art, I can do both in one package. Enter:
This picture, which I’ve posted before. I have found that anthros (which are a hell of a lot more fun than I initially imagined they could be) neatly thread the needle between the two. Here are some unfamiliar faces, but also two we already know! From a design perspective, I’ve drawn a ton of inspiration from a plethora of artists I admire (@http://ask-goldenpen.tumblr.com/, @http://a-rather-rottenpony.tumblr.com/, @http://ask-the-french-olive.tumblr.com/ to name but a few) and it’s been a blast with characterization and design. You forget how much clothing can tell you about a person until you constantly draw naked horses :p
As I said, stories involving these kids (and more characters besides!) have been occupying a lot of my creative time, but they take place in a very different, what-if space with relation to this blog and its characters that already exist.
...I have always been of the opinion that an askblog should be about fun, first and foremost. If you’re not having a good time, what even is the point of running the blog?
I’ll be level with you guys. I’m not sure what to do with this blog. From both an artistic and narrative standpoint, I don’t know that I’m satisfied with my work (or the path I intended Primal Voice to take). After a year and change of fiddling with him and thinking very hard about his nature as a character, he’s changed a fair deal from the fairly simplistic premise he had to start with, and at this point, I’m seriously considering reforging the whole thing from the bottom up.
Now, this is a thing I’m waffling about for a few reasons. One is that you guys came on board with Primal Voice for horse shenanigans, and it feels like it’d be disingenuous to yank that out from underneath you after you went to the trouble of investing a portion of your time into it and me. Another is that it would necessitate a complete reboot of the blog, from the ground up. New start, new environment, new introductions, everything (which is fine by me, but for you guys...)
I don’t know. It’s a vast thing that’s troubled me of late. The fact is, I don’t know how much I can muster for the blog as it stands. I feel like I’ve put myself in a corner creatively and that’s frustrating, but I love the character (and you guys) too much to just let the blog die entirely.
Some of you may have noticed that my blog was deleted, I was trying to get rid of a sideblog but instead ended up deleting my main one instead! I already contacted Tumblr in hopes of getting my old posts back i am still waiting on their response so until then if you guys have rebloged any of my old post please let me know so that i can reblog them!
I lost a lot of followers due to this accident so if you could reblog and spread the word that i am in fact NOT gone that would be great!
Here are the links to my sideblogs that were deleted:

GUESS WHO’S GOT TWO THUMBS AND INTERNET ACCESS BACK
IF YOU GUESSED ME YOU ARE CORRECT
I just moved into a new apartment (hence the whole going dark thing) and now that I’m all moved in and got my internet situation sorted we’re gonna get back to updating! So sorry for the brief silence, fellas
That’s right, kids. Bad Good old mod is in a bit of a pickle financially, and the only way to escape it is by gathering money, which means WORK. So, the information, below the break!
We’ll do something more fun next year. Feels like we haven’t actually got very far in all that time, have we? Well, that’s fine. We’ll keep moving on once I get everything settled and stabilized!
