It’s been some time after the whole “Little Mac storms through and wipes the floor with the WVBA” incident. Now, several of these men have moved away from boxing and continued on with their lives. One of these men, Glass Joe, had the idea to begin an extended AMA of sorts. He rounded together some dear friends to address the flooding of questions they’ve all received after being involved with that infamous stint. Be it questions about their pasts, presents, or futures - they’re up for anything! 

Who knows? Some other familiar faces may join the fray. Stick around and find out!

This blog is run by Mod Steve and Mod Maple! Mod Maple handles the writing, while Mod Steve handles the art. Both of us contribute to the overall lore and will be applying our personal views/headcanons to these characters.

Questione for Glassa Joe: what was the reason you started boxing and kept on doing It even tho your weren't the best? I'm not trying to be rude, Just genuinely curious, sometimes, whenever I'm not good at something immediately, I easly give up. I truly admire your determination!

“Ahaha, no, I do not find your question impolite in the slightest! You don’t make it to the point I have without thick skin; even I consider myself a bit strange from time to time!”

“Why I picked up boxing to begin with is quite the story. My childhood was, euh, very competitive, if I had to choose a word. My brothers, sisters, and I spent much of our time involved in hobbies our father encouraged we pick up, and he was nothing short of a perfectionist. He was a prolific artist back in that day, and by God, surely one of his children would be the same, right? Well, that pressure was utterly contagious -- every one of us wanted nothing more than to make a smile appear on that sour face! Poor me, I’m the baby of the family, so no matter how hard I tried, by the time I mastered this instrument or that way of painting, you can be sure someone else had already done so ages before me!”

“Back then, of course, I did not have the practice of being a graceful loser as I do now. By the time I was a young man, I was losing all hope of standing out. I was afraid I would forever be a disappointment, or lost in the shadows, completely overlooked despite my best efforts. It’s no exaggeration to say I had never felt so miserable in my life! If it weren’t for my grandfather being a sports fan, I honestly do not know what might have become of me!”

“Now, heh, why I kept at it even though I was met with the same failure I already hated with my whole being? I believe meeting one of my closest friends right at the start helped with the sting. Having Henri around as a source of encouragement and friendly rivalry did wonders for me in the long run, long enough for me to grow a genuine fondness for boxing."

(Kaiser: *mumbled* "What the… you could fit the whole family in these…")

Joe: "That, and, hmm, I didn’t notice any of my siblings try their hand at it! Even if I failed each and every time, at least it was in a world of my own creating! I was the trailblazer for a change, haha!”

“Now, well, here you are, kind person, saying you admire my determination! My record might be girthy on the wrong side, but to see that I have become a source of inspiration hailed around the globe is the final piece of the puzzle. Yes, it warms my heart very much, knowing that even a clumsy man like myself can make an impact in the world!”

“This is why I haven’t given up the ghost just yet -- this break of mine was actually the idea of my well-meaning friends and family! In no time, I shall reenter the ring, and mark my words, I’ll go another twenty years if I can!”

“Yes, in fact, my hachimaki is very dear to me. It was gifted to me by my mother and father upon my placement in the Major Circuit, as a way to encourage me to take pride in my achievement." 

"Until then, I had gone without much praise or adornment for… reasons I would prefer not to discuss at the moment, but at their insistence, I donned this band."

"Historically, hachimaki symbolize things such as courage and effort in the wearer, and this holds true for me. For those previously mentioned reasons, I had been holding myself back from a greater title, from any sort of glory, until my at-the-time flawless record all but forced the hand of the WVBA. When I accepted the offer, I swore I would see it as a way to further better myself, to distance myself from my past and become deserving of being known as ‘number one’ to those around me.

Alas, shortly after this, I encountered two champions-to-be, and so fled the majority of my confidence in that sentiment."

"Nowadays, I still wear the headband, but reversed. Instead of boasting for all to see, now, I keep my ambitions closer to myself."

Heya Gang. First things first, what do you all do now that you have left the ring? Do you still box for fun or have you left it behind completely?

Joe: “What an excellent place to start! I think I’ll answer first!”

Don: “With the way you’re gripping that phone there, you’d probably deck the man who’d disagree.”

Joe: “Haha, sorry, I’m excited to get things started, I swear I won’t hold the rest of you up for long. Ahem. Well, I’m currently taking a gap year or two from any official matches. I still try to keep in shape, but after that, euh, hiccup involving... that final bout of mine, I thought some time away from the spotlight might be in my best interests. Oh, Mon Dieu, and if you thought the jabs at my expense were bad before… But, to those of you who still offer your support, don’t fret! The WVBA has not seen the last of Glass Joe! I’ve got all the time in the world to tighten my defenses, even if it means borrowing a knight’s helmet from some charitable museum! I would like to see someone try to knock that off of my head, ha!

Other than that, a lot has changed in my personal life! For privacy’s sake, I will not say exactly where, but I made the choice to move away from my beloved Paris to my grandparents’ old home up in the north. I admit, I have always been drawn to city life, but the fresh air out here is so… well, refreshing, haha! I stay home most of the time, which may sound dull to some, but luckily, I do not live alone! Many people don’t know this, but I am both a husband and a father~”

Don: “Surprising that you’ve been able to keep the secret as long as you have, mi amigo. No, truly, I don’t think they’ve invented anything big enough to hold all the photos he’s got of those children. But enough of that, if you keep babbling, Joseph, you’ll give your whole life story away. So I go next.” 

Joe: “Er, oups. I, hehe, ended up getting a little carried away there. Please, go right ahead!”

Don: “Gracias. Like our poor Joe, I have also decided on a temporary break. I’ve thrown myself into various other passions and hobbies, all to steel my will and strengthen my body. Bullfighting, skydiving, mountain climbing, any way I can take the reigns of a seemingly terrifying scenario and come out completely unscathed. One day, I plan on coming back to the ring able to take a man down with a glare alone. Until then, I will live my life to the fullest while I’m still young and handsome, like I’m sure some other soul in this room wishes he could say.”

Kaiser: “Tch, shut up, you sound like some desperate adrenaline junkie.”

Don: “What was that? The window ate all your words-- puaj, Joseph, when did you buy this horrible thing? It’s as flavorless as a rock!”

Joe: “Well, you did find that under my couch. I don’t stock fresh candy there, believe it or not!”

Kaiser: “Enough about that, let me say my piece before I lose my patience with you two!”

Don: “Oh, lo siento, Cinderella. Don’t let us stop you from spilling that heart out!”

Kaiser: “Hmph. I’ll break their little trend by saying I will not be returning to boxing. I loved it once, but my heart’s simply not in it any longer. I’ ve stepped away from my position as a boxing instructor, as well, but I still have a career in more official teaching in two countries, so my soul does not want for being a mentor figure. The copious amounts of free time I find myself having now is… nice. I too have a family to spend time with, and hobbies I had neglected for ages until recently. I’m able to build whole pieces of furniture in under a year for a change, Gott im Himmel!”

Don: “And yet you still have the nerve to be antsy if your hands go still for even a second. You finished with Joe’s dishes yet?”

Kaiser: “...Yes.”

Hondo: “I have returned. I hope I got all of your orders correct.”

Joe: “Hayate, you’re back at the perfect time! We’re all answering that question about our plans for boxing in the future, would you like to chime in?”

Kaiser: “Oh, yeah, tell the world about your continued escapades in that mosh pit we called circuits!”

Hondo: “Ah… yes, alright, I shall. As Kaiser-san said, I am still involved with the championship rankings of the WVBA. However, I descended backwards, to the Minor Circuit, as its champion. After facing three defeats in my short time in the Major Circuit, I felt the universe was giving me a sign I dared not ignore. As a result, I am also attempting to book fewer matches as a whole, for I am trying to devote more of my time to my other calling in life: helping those in need. I am employed at a highly populated nursing home, and it would be beneficial for everyone involved if I arrived in good health more often than not, yes? However, my love for the sport and the reasonable winnings I can accumulate in the right atmosphere keep me from stepping away entirely.”

Don: “Hm, wow, I didn’t take you for the ‘in it for the cash’ type.”

Hondo: “The majority of my earnings do not stay with me, I assure you! I give as much as possible to various charities, though I try not to bring high amounts of attention to this-”

Kaiser: “Great, great, you’re a model citizen, Hayate, now could you please bring our food over to the table so we can be done with all this rambling? I think we’ve got the point across.”

Hondo: “Mm, I suppose I agree…”

Joe: “So do I! May I see my coffee, please? I’m sure you asked for it, but they almost never add enough sugar for my liking.”

Hondo: “Of course, here… oh… ah, it appears that, er, in my haste…”

Kaiser: “You left the drinks back on the counter, didn’t you?”

Hondo: “...I’ll be back.”
