Goodness!

Okay. I’m Canadian so I know a shit ton about staying warm if you’re new to the cold there here are some tips!(add more if you know more!)

1. Wear grippy shoes, nothing is worse than snowmelt freezing on your skin.

2.Do not wear jeans as your outter layer. wet denim is the most body heat siphoning mother fucker known to man or god

3. Have a warm drink with you. It will help. Even just some hot soup broth or boiled water will help keep you warm.

4. Wear a moisture wicking layer close to your skin so you don’t get cold from your own sweat. You will sweat. That is fine and expected.

5. If you start feeling too warm even though you were cold and like you have to take your clothes of DO NOT. Call 911. You are suffering from hypothermia.

6. Bring a blanket and a heat source that needs no electricity with you in your vehicle. You do not want to be stranded with no heat in the case that something happens.

7. If you are struggling on ice as you’re walking, stop. Get your balance and penguin shuffle to a less slippery patch of ground. There’s usually less ice on one side of the walk and it’s better to walk in the snow next to the sidewalk than it is to eat dirt when ya slip

8. STAY THE ABSOLUTE FUCK AWAY FROM FROZEN BODIES OF WATER. Ponds are deceptive as shit even with the “solid blue tried and true” thing. Go around.

9. Keep kids warm. They run at a higher body temperature and will feel the effects of the cold worse than you.

10. Huddling is your best friend. Even if you don’t know the person, remember you’re both cold, especially if they don’t have the right clothing for the weather.

11. Pay attention to windchill. That is how cold it feels. Dress appropriately please. I know it’s tempting to dress for style, but there’s nothing stylish about losing your toes to frostbite

12. Don’t touch metal if you can avoid it. It will sap your heat and likely freeze to anything wet. Like tongues. Don’t fucking lick a pole.

13. If someone licks something metal, pour warm water over their tongue to get them free. If they yank, they will bleed. A lot.

14. Keep your ears, noes, fingers, and toes warm. You’re extremities will get cold first and are the most likely parts of your body to get frostbite.

15. If you see someone who may not have a place to be in the cold, offer to help them find a local shelter or library. The elements, especially the cold, are some of the largest threats to those who cannot avoid them.

16. If you find yourself stuck outside for a long time, sleep during the day when it is warmest, and avoid sleeping on the ground. Stay awake as much as you can at night so you have a better chance of staying warm.

Also, look out for your local animals.   Cats will sleep on car wheels where you can’t see them - it’s elevated, rubber is warmer than the ground, and it’s a little hideyhole where they feel safe.  Check your wheel wells and under your car before you go driving off, you might save a tiny life.

You can also, if you’re so inclined, make a little winter shelter for cats and small animals fairly easily and cheaply.

[Here] is an even simpler (ad possibly cheaper) version of basically the same thing.  As long as you smooth out the opening (so the lil guys don’t injure themselves on it), insulate, and line it, and then put it somewhere where it’s not going to get flooded or the animal snowed in, you’re grand. It might not seem like much in the face of subzero temperatures, but it’s damn well better than nothing.

It is important for EVERYONE to know how to help ANYONE. Not everyone can give them selves their medicine under every circumstance. Be educated, help out.

In the last year, i have gotten about five new violent allergies from foods i used to be able to eat. Next time i eat a fruit, my throat could close. I may not be able to inject myself. My boyfriend and i played with my trainer pen for like 30 minutes. He knows how to inject it. I know how. This is important.

Very important to educate yourself on administering emergency medications even if you don’t use them. Usually when someone is in distress to need it they can’t do it themselves.

Also for an epipen do not hold your thumb on the top of the pen! Also never touch the orange part. I’ve seen so many people manage to stab themselves and that’s not good either because now we have 2 people that need help.

Hi, I’m giving a warning to everyone involved with the nintendask community about the user mysticalvivian / queenoffaye / askpetulapiranha

said individual has been harassing me on multiple blogs, is a minor invading adult spaces, and has begun pestering users in the community who are friends with me. I’ve reprimanded her after she tried making a call out post against me and them, and am here after blocking and ignoring her indefinitely. I’d advise many of you do the same, because she will just continue to look for cracks in the community so she can find ways to communicate with me after I’ve made it clear I’m uncomfortable. As a victim of stalking from people in the past, the obsession she has with me has been making me uncomfortable and upset and I’m not putting up with her lashing out at friends for trying to get her to stop. The best we can do in this community is nip the issue in the bud and just block her.

Raking a hand down his face, the blue haired scientist groaned as he poured himself another mug of coffee. Taking a sip of the bitter liquid, he slowly shuffled back towards his lap, scratching his scalp. The large door closed with a click as Kooky placed his mug on a nearby table, quickly moving to squint his mismatched eyes down at the blueprints that had been tormenting him all week. He couldn’t quite place his finger on it, but something was off about the design for the next attempt to sneak into the Toad Kingdom. The concept was for a pipe that only went one way and would trap the Mario Brothers long enough for his siblings to slip in and out.

Pulling the paper back to his face, he was too distracted to notice the door open behind him. Dropping the paper back onto his table, Kooky snatched up a white pencil, scribbling notes on the little remaining space on the paper. He figured that if he could at least find what’s wrong with it, then he could try to improve the idea!

Kooky was snapped from his thoughts as a hand gently touched his elbow, stopping him from writing. Spinning his head around, he met the tired eyes of Big Mouth. How late must it be if his brother was quiet enough to sneak up on him?

“…you’ve been at this for days. Maybe you should take a break?” The normally loudest Koopaling mumbled, blinking slowly.

“Big Mouth…I can’t stop now, can’t you see?” Kooky insisted, gently brushing his brother’s hand off. “I’m so close to a breakthrough. If i just work a little longer I can try to-” He was cut off by the other grabbing his arm once more, tugging him out of the lab.

“Tomorrow.” Big Mouth yawned, guiding them to the T.V. room. “You don’t have to sleep, just focus on something else. ”

Forcing his older brother to sit on the couch, Big Mouth shuffled back towards his room, coming back with his blanket and plopping down beside the older man. Grabbing the remote he switched the T.V. on, which was currently playing a regular Koopmas special.

Slowly, as the sound of the beloved film filled the castle walls, the rest of their siblings made their way to the room, dragging pillows and blankets behind them. Each claimed their respective spots on the floor, silently watching the film. It wasn’t often that they shared moments like this, so each stayed silent as if a single sound would break the magic surrounding them.

One by one, the others began drifting to sleep, until only Kooky remained. Surrounded by the soft snores of his siblings, the scientist slowly relaxed against the couch, a small smile gracing his lips. Maybe a small nap wouldn’t hurt.

so Paradise California is gone

i haven’t seen any noise about this on tumblr yet, but a fire has completely wiped out a small town in california.

they’re calling it the camp fire. over 20,000 residents have been evacuated so far, the last area estimates i heard were over an hour ago at 18,000 acres and its still zero percent contained.

this is the smoke from about 18 miles away from the fire three hours ago. if you know anyone near chico, paradise, oroville or durham california you might want to check they’re okay

UPDATE: 4PM FRI NOV. 9, 2018

the fire has completely walked over paradise, magalia, and much of the rest of butte county. it’s under 10% containment and moving towards chico, which was been mostly evacuated as well. it’s been documented as one of the top 20 deadliest fires seen in california. i know many of the people personally whose lives have been destroyed by this fire. my aunt and uncle’s home, of whom we’re very close to, was demolished last night, same goes for family friends and others who lived in paradise– which is completely gone. there are 5 confirmed deaths, several dozen missing people.

(Update on life, I guess. Right after I made this post, my life went to literal crap. I lost my job, all of my bills started racking up, and I just. I can’t do anything right...my life is crumbling around me and I’m scared I’m going to lose my apartment and get dragged into crazy high debt from college and I just don’t know what to do. You guys are the some of the only people who make me happy anymore (other than a few at home) and I just...I miss this blog and having fun on it with everyone even if I wasn’t popular it was still amazing and..it was home. I just..I just want you guys to know how much you all mean to me, and that no matter what, you guys are what kept me going for so long. Sorry for the long post, I just...wanted to say thanks)

While I appreciate being compared to a woman as great as Samus, I unfortunately am not her. The two of us have worked together, and it was an amazing experience. She taught me how to box and I can pilot her ship now as well. It is something I would love to do more often. I have several of her helmets floating around here..she tends to forget them from time to time.
