Cane notices the look from the two councilorâs, his brows pulling together as he gnaws on his lip.
âWAIT!â Cane suddenly blurts, âWait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, WAIT!!!â Cane flails his hands. âPlease, Iâm-I-Iâm-Iâm like, Iâm like, like, like literallyâŚâ he breathes, âIâm begging.â He says weakly. âIâŚâ he runs a hand down his face. âIâm sorry,â He looks to Councilor Salo, then Hoskel.
âI know it doesnât mean much, butâŚâ He frowns. âI wasnât trying to create trauma, or hurt anyoneâŚâ he says. âI know you know that I actually fuckinâ did the crimesâpardon my language, and I canât escape some sort of punishment, but I canâtâŚâ He looks down, âIâm not gonna admit anything, but I am sorry. I didnâtâŚhave malicious intent with the things IâŚâ he pauses. âListen, I canât just be away fromâŚfrom my family.â
He looks at the councilorâs, gaze pleading. âYou have to understand. Father to fatâI donât even know if any of you have kids but, you know how that can fuck a kid up! Now imagine!â he says, voice raising. âMy daughter, right, Carrie? She-she grows up without her father, sheâs only told stories from her mom, and-and whoever, and sheâll learn about this case, and this trial, and either sheâll view me as a role model and do the same things I do, and give you guys another criminal, or sheâll hate me.â His voice breaks, âAnd I swear, I wonât change for you allââ distaste creeps into his voice, âBut I will change for my baby, and I-Iâll do anything to prove it. Lock me up, put me onâI donât knowâgive me an ankle monitor, just donâtâŚtake me away from my family.â
