It’s been a while!

Hey! The last time I touched this blog I said I was bringing Caleb back and bringing him to a new blog. That.. didn’t really happen. 

BECAUSE

I moved my active muses to a multi-muse over at @purposefully-lost. I still need to put up a page that grants easy access to see who I’m currently writing/who’s new over there, but you can ask if you’d like. 

Caleb currently isn’t active, but since he was a muse of mine, you can feel free to ask about him over there.

There probably ain’t many people still around over here,  but if you ever were, I just wanted to say a quick thank you and give yall a little update.

So since Claire's mun is starting up again, are you going to come back to this blog?

// Most likely not. It’s been so long since I’ve written Caleb that I don’t really have a feel for him anymore, and while I absolutely loved the time I spent on this blog, I’ve kinda lost touch with it. And, honestly, I’d kind’ve come to feel that Caleb had reached the end of his story. I intended to write a little epilogue for him for a while, but I never got around to finishing it.

With an OC of mine, Charlie Reimes! He’s... probably my favorite character that I’ve ever written. He’s the owner of the auto-body shop that his brother started. There’s a lot that he struggles with, from alcoholism to anxiety, but... he’s a stubborn asshole from start to finish. My next blog is another OC, Riley Moore! A 17 year old runaway from the state of Ohio, she’s doing all she can to survive. The older android held Caleb tight in his arms, softly shushing him now as he tried to get him to calm down just a little bit more. He was looking over at Marco once more, a small frown on his face as he debated on what to do. Connor was the one who made this mess so, it wouldn’t only seem right for him to be the one to clean up his mess. “I-I’ll take care of it… I’ll take care of him… Don’t worry..” He said, now rubbing circles into Caleb’s back. “Would you.. Would you like me to call you a cab? I’m sure Hank wouldn’t mind if you stayed over there for a little bit while I…” He didn’t want to say cleaned up but, what else would he be doing? Perhaps he could find someone to fix Marco. Would his brother want that though? He’d have to ask him later. For the moment, he had to get him somewhere safe, where someone could watch after him while he tried to fix this.

Caleb didn’t respond for a long moment. He didn’t want to leave. Logically, he knew that Marco wouldn’t know the difference; he was dead. He wouldn’t know who’s hands were picking him up, or who was present. Logically, he knew he didn’t have to stay. 

But he also knew that Marco wouldn’t want him to leave. Leaving was always the worst thing he’d ever done to Marco. He curled closer to Connor and shook his head. “I- I can’t- I have to stay. I- I have to help.”

Connor waited for what Caleb wanted to do, ready to support him with whatever he chose. Slowly, Connor’s stress levels were dropping, his LED still flashing red though as he held the younger android. When hearing that Caleb wanted to stay, Connor frowned slightly. He had kind of hoped that he would chose to leave as he knew how hard this was for him but, he wasn’t going to stop him. So, he came up with a compromise.

“You can stay… But you don’t have to help..” He knew how hard this was for Caleb and he didn’t want to make it worse.

“I have to help,” he whispered. He did. He needed to. Slowly pulling away from Connor, he sat up, closed his eyes for a moment, then looked at Marco. He was struggling to keep his gaze there, blinking and bringing himself to tears again, but he moved. 

He let out a slow breath and shifted onto his knees, slowly reaching down to pull him into his arms. He was lighter as an android that he’d been as a human. “I..” He paused, trying to gain his bearings. “There’s- there’s sheets, in the closet just- just in the hall. Can you…?”

He wanted to tell the other that no, he didn’t have to help, but it was what Caleb wanted so he didn’t. Instead, he released the other, slowly getting to his feet. Connor watched Caleb move to pick up Marco, his thirium pump feeling like it was being crushed in his chest. When being told about the sheets, the older android was moving. “Yeah, I’ve got it.” He muttered.

It didn’t take him long to find the closet, pulling out a plain looking sheet from it before returning to his brother’s side. He couldn’t stand this, couldn’t stand seeing Caleb like this, but there was nothing he could do to fix this. Not right now and probably not ever and that was destroying Connor.

Charlie slowly stood and turned to face Connor. There were tears in his eyes, again, but he nodded. “Lay it out, somewhere where it’s clean. It’s... not proper, but I-” His voice broke. He looked back down. “I cannot leave him laying where he died.” They would get the body somewhere it could be taken care of, later. For now, he just didn’t want to look at Marco laying in his own blood anymore.

He listened to everything Caleb said, despite how he let his gaze slowly slip away, now staring straight ahead again. Guilt was bubbling up, threatening to boil over and cause him to turn into a mess.

Caleb’s question caused the other to frown slightly, his eyes sliding closed. What was he supposed to say? Any answer he gives would cause some kind of backlash, regardless of if it came from the younger android or not. Still, he had to answer him as this was his fault. So, he let his eyes slowly slide open, now meeting Caleb’s gaze. Any words he might have said were suddenly snatched from him when seeing the subtle fear in those blue eyes. It hurt him, made him want to rip out his thirium pump.

Some big brother he was. He was supposed to protect his little brothers, not hurt them, but it seems that’s all he’s done recently. With how little Collin is home, he’s started to think he’s done something to upset him somehow, and now he’s done this to Caleb. Still, he needed to answer the other, so he took a deep breath, trying to keep his voice from shaking as his stress levels rose once more, dangerously high.

“No. No I don’t.” His voice cracked slightly. Connor thinks that if he had just stayed home, none of this would have happened. If he had just stayed gone, Caleb wouldn’t be in this situation but, he hadn’t so now there they sat with the blood of his little brother’s fiance on his hands. Literally.

“You two deserved to be happy, no matter what that meant, and it seemed you were. You both were happy, even after… I only saw him once but… Marco seemed happy. Legitimately happy. Perhaps it was just in the moment but…” He let his voice drift off, not sure what else to say. Instead, he just repeated his answer from before. “No, I don’t think this was for the best… And I will accept whatever punishment you deem acceptable for what I have done…”

Connor’s answer seemed to take all of the strength out of Caleb. His shoulders relaxed and he looked back to Marco before slowly lowering himself to the ground, despite the blood that surrounded him. After a long, thoughtful moment, he reached out to gently brush a lock of hair from Marco’s face. Some of it stuck to his skin from the thirium and left a smear. “He.. was happy,” Caleb replied softly. “That is why I.. I was scared of telling him about his past. I did not want to take that carelessness away from him.” He let his hands settle in his lap. “But it… it’s very hard, Connor. To help someone when you have mourned them, and to be torn between knowing they deserve to know the truth and knowing it will hurt them.” 

Caleb blinked, and his vision turned blurry. He seemed to curl in on himself, hugging his arms around his middle, and squeezed his eyes shut. He didn’t know what to do. If this were a normal scene, if this were his work, it would all be so easy. There were hard parts to his job, of course, and looking at a body was never simple, but he knew what to do. Now… Now, he was filled with a vague sense of wanting to go home, but home was where he was sitting and there was nowhere else to go. There wasn’t anyone he could run to. 

Home was, in so many ways, the man laying dead in front of him. He felt his breath hitch and hunched forwards. For the second time in a terribly short life, he was trying to understand the death of someone he loved.

Dark brown eyes watched the other RK unit slowly sit on the floor. It hurt him to see Caleb like this. It hurt him even more knowing he had been the one to make him like this, but there was nothing he could do about it. Not now. Connor slowly looked away, now staring at the hands that were resting in his lap. They were still covered in Marco’s blood, and that was something that Connor didn’t think he would ever wash away.

Once again, regardless of how zoned out he looked, he was listening to every word that was said to him. He wanted to reach out, to comfort his younger brother in some way, but he didn’t know if it would be accepted right now, or rather ever again. He didn’t know what to say anymore. No words could make this better, could make it okay, so he just sat there. If this was a crime scene, a true crime scene, he would arrested for murder because even if he didn’t mean for it to happen, he would be the only person here with Marco’s dead body right there which would paint him as a murderer.

He should be in trouble. He should be paying for what he did but, at the same time, he knew how Caleb was. He wasn’t one to start fights. Usually that was left to the older RK units. Caleb was, in Connor’s opinion, soft. Despite his intimidating look and being an upgraded model of himself, the younger android was very soft and seemed to be non confrontational, always looking to see the better side of things unlike his older brothers. And it seemed Connor had ruined that.

Finally, he spoke, his LED flashing as he did. “I think…. I think we should call someone… Anyone… You are not in the state to deal with this and I….” He cut himself off, eyes closing once more. He knew what had to be done, he just didn’t want to verbalize it. “Caleb… Call someone… Just….” The younger android needed help that Connor could not provide at the moment. He didn’t know when it had happened but he now had a hand covering right where his thirium pump was, causing panic to flood him as he checked his stress levels. Too high. He didn’t remove his hand though, instead letting his fingers clinch into a fist, holding the fabric of his shirt tight in his hand.

“I- I… I don’t-” Caleb cut himself off, a silent sob tearing from his throat as he squeezed his eyes shut and tried to fight it back. He’d already done this, he’d been through it all before– it shouldn’t still be so hard. It shouldn’t hurt so bad. He should be able to stand up and get his bearings and figure out where to go next, but there was a weight in his chest that kept any of it from happening. 

He was tired, he realized. He was so, so tired. It never ended, it seemed. Collin’s disappearance, his virus, Marco’s death, Connor’s disappearance.. it was all so much, and it just kept coming. A sound finally escaped Caleb as he started to cry in earnest. Loud, ugly sobs pulled from deep in his chest, his hands digging into his sides as he hugged himself and fell apart. There was almost some part of him that wished for what it’d been like before his deviancy; when he’d felt, but not strongly enough to illicit this much pain. He tried to speak and couldn’t get the words to come through.

Those cries had Connor letting out a shuddering breath. He sat there for another second, not realizing that tears were now rolling down his own cheeks. He had truly hurt his baby brother. Cut him deep. Suddenly, he was moving, slowly getting on his knees. Surprisingly, he moved toward the other, getting close enough to touch. And touch he did, reaching his hands out so he could pull the younger android into his embrace.

Connor didn’t know if he would be rejected or fought but, he couldn’t continue to sit back and listen to his younger brother cry like that. Not without some kind of comfort, someone to hold him as he battles the waves of emotions. And if he wanted to get mad, to take it out on the older android, he would let him. Silent tears slipped down Connor’s face as he held Caleb, not sure what else to do but hold him. He should text someone and get them to come here. He should text Hank. He would know what to do but, he couldn’t focus, errors and warnings now starting to pop up, distracting him. He pressed his face to the top of Caleb’s head, eyes closing as he began to mumble apologies into his hair, unable to do much else.

Caleb leaned into Connor’s embrace with no resistance. He immediately turned his face to hide it in Connor’s chest and let himself go. He cried and screamed and sobbed until his throat felt raw and his voice was was being accented with static. He eventually pulled a hand away from himself so he could clutch at Connor.

By the time he was too tired to keep on, finally falling somewhat quiet, it’d felt like forever had passed. His breath still occasionally hitched and his shoulders shuddered as he leaned against Connor. He couldn’t look in the direction of Marco, or else he’d start up again. Tears still slipped down his face.

“I- I’m- I’m tired, Connor,” his whispered, his voice filled with static. “I d- don’t- I don’t know what to- to do..”

Connor held Caleb, his arms tightening slightly around him. He listened to him cry, knowing that he was the reason he was crying like this and there wasn’t much else he could do but listen and try to soothe him. Connor rested his chin on top of Caleb’s head, his eyes opening, his gaze landing on the body causing him to tense slightly.

Eventually, the loud crying stopped, but Connor did not pull away, still opting to hold his brother close as he listened to him speak. It hurt Connor, hearing how small Caleb sounded, how hurt he was. His LED blinked red as he tried to think of how this should go. What he should do. He came up with nothing though, not knowing what he could do to make this better. To make this okay. Nothing could ever make this okay and he knew that.

“I…” He frowned slightly before continuing. “I don’t… I don’t know either.. I don’t know what to do and I don’t know what you should do…” He couldn’t just tell Caleb to stop grieving over the death of his fiance. It didn’t work that way and he would never say that to him. “I don’t know…” He repeated. “I’m sorry…”

If this was a crime scene, a true crime scene, he would arrested for murder because even if he didn’t mean for it to happen, he would be the only person here with Marco’s dead body right there which would paint him as a murderer.

He should be in trouble. He should be paying for what he did but, at the same time, he knew how Caleb was. He wasn’t one to start fights. Usually that was left to the older RK units. Caleb was, in Connor’s opinion, soft. Despite his intimidating look and being an upgraded model of himself, the younger android was very soft and seemed to be non confrontational, always looking to see the better side of things unlike his older brothers. And it seemed Connor had ruined that.

Finally, he spoke, his LED flashing as he did. “I think…. I think we should call someone… Anyone… You are not in the state to deal with this and I….” He cut himself off, eyes closing once more. He knew what had to be done, he just didn’t want to verbalize it. “Caleb… Call someone… Just….” The younger android needed help that Connor could not provide at the moment. He didn’t know when it had happened but he now had a hand covering right where his thirium pump was, causing panic to flood him as he checked his stress levels. Too high. He didn’t remove his hand though, instead letting his fingers clinch into a fist, holding the fabric of his shirt tight in his hand.

“I- I… I don’t-” Caleb cut himself off, a silent sob tearing from his throat as he squeezed his eyes shut and tried to fight it back. He’d already done this, he’d been through it all before– it shouldn’t still be so hard. It shouldn’t hurt so bad. He should be able to stand up and get his bearings and figure out where to go next, but there was a weight in his chest that kept any of it from happening. 

He was tired, he realized. He was so, so tired. It never ended, it seemed. Collin’s disappearance, his virus, Marco’s death, Connor’s disappearance.. it was all so much, and it just kept coming. A sound finally escaped Caleb as he started to cry in earnest. Loud, ugly sobs pulled from deep in his chest, his hands digging into his sides as he hugged himself and fell apart. There was almost some part of him that wished for what it’d been like before his deviancy; when he’d felt, but not strongly enough to illicit this much pain. He tried to speak and couldn’t get the words to come through.

Those cries had Connor letting out a shuddering breath. He sat there for another second, not realizing that tears were now rolling down his own cheeks. He had truly hurt his baby brother. Cut him deep. Suddenly, he was moving, slowly getting on his knees. Surprisingly, he moved toward the other, getting close enough to touch. And touch he did, reaching his hands out so he could pull the younger android into his embrace.

Connor didn’t know if he would be rejected or fought but, he couldn’t continue to sit back and listen to his younger brother cry like that. Not without some kind of comfort, someone to hold him as he battles the waves of emotions. And if he wanted to get mad, to take it out on the older android, he would let him. Silent tears slipped down Connor’s face as he held Caleb, not sure what else to do but hold him. He should text someone and get them to come here. He should text Hank. He would know what to do but, he couldn’t focus, errors and warnings now starting to pop up, distracting him. He pressed his face to the top of Caleb’s head, eyes closing as he began to mumble apologies into his hair, unable to do much else.

Caleb leaned into Connor's embrace with no resistance. He immediately turned his face to hide it in Connor's chest and let himself go. He cried and screamed and sobbed until his throat felt raw and his voice was was being accented with static. He eventually pulled a hand away from himself so he could clutch at Connor.

By the time he was too tired to keep on, finally falling somewhat quiet, it'd felt like forever had passed. His breath still occasionally hitched and his shoulders shuddered as he leaned against Connor. He couldn't look in the direction of Marco, or else he'd start up again. Tears still slipped down his face.

"I- I'm- I'm tired, Connor," his whispered, his voice filled with static. "I d- don't- I don't know what to- to do.."
