I’ve got two orders I tend to bounce between. If I’m looking for a coffee I normally get a flat white.

I usually tend to go for lavender-mint tea, though. Sometimes I’ll get some sort of baked good with it.

The night air is cold and it’s exactly the relief Avim needed when he crawled through his room’s window, a mess of feathers and all lifting himself up onto the roof of the building.

It’s less suffocating out there, there’s space to breathe and his wings don’t feel nearly as claustrophobic as he stretched them out and it was so lonely. He’d say that that’s exactly what he wants, explain that with Nikolai gone on a mission, there is no one else he’d be interested in spending time with.

He wouldn’t be able to explain, however, why he still moved in the same direction he knew a familiar sergeant resided, why he settled with Ronan as his second best company when normally he wouldn’t bat an eye at any of the other soldiers on any other base.

He waved off the thought of potentially becoming friendly with the sergeant as he dropped down in front of his window, talons catching onto his windowsill.

Avim barely considered how bewildering it would be to see a winged hybrid outside one’s window in the dead of night before he’s lifting a claw and tapping at the glass of Ronan’s window. “Sergeant?” he called out, voice hushed and a little unsure.

The tap at his window had startled Ronan from the light doze he had found himself in at his desk, hunched over a book, a journal and some loose papers. It took him a second to get his eyes to properly open, and it took a longer second to remember how to even use them.

Ronan’s head drifted to the window, and his brows furrowed. What was the other man doing here, so late? Nevermind the fact he was without a handler. (Which Ronan was glad for, he didn’t think he had the energy for multiple people at this time of night.)

“Mmh, Mosquito?” He opened the window to its full extent to let the hybrid in if he so desired. His voice was scratchy, in its general sense and from the fact he’d just woken up. “What’re y’doin..?”

Avim sat at his spot on the windowsill as patiently as he could, eyes observing Ronan from his side of the window before the man eventually woke up enough to open it for him, inviting him in.

“It is late,” he grunted, stating the obvious and while there was a hint of an apology in his expression, it was quickly replaced with focus as Avim clambered inside of Ronan’s room.

Rather than worrying over how strange his current behaviour was - how unexpected it was for him to seek out company, in the middle of the night at all times - Avim instead tried his best to not knock anything over with his swooping wings when he dropped onto the floor near soundlessly.

“I…” His brows furrowed a little when he realised he had to explain that behaviour now, his words coming out in a familiar grumble. “You are free, are you, sergeant?”

It was a silly question, especially considering the time and the situation. Ronan shouldn’t be free at the moment. And still, Avim went on.

“I… hm. I snuck out, I wanted space and came to see you. So… are you free?”

Ronan tilted his head slightly as Avim spoke, eyes searching his face for a moment. It was a bit odd, the hybrid being awake and in his room at this hour - but Ronan was used to the odd natures of the other members on base, so he chose to chalk it up as normal.

“Real late,” Ronan said simply, rubbing the back of his neck like he was looking for a more advanced answer only to come up short of one. He let his eyes dart off to the side for a moment, feeling something warm a bit in his chest at the mention of Avim coming to see him specifically.

“Free?” He repeated before nodding. “Yeah, ain’t… got anythin’ else goin’ on.” Ronan shrugged, gesturing weakly around his bunk. “Y’can, uh, sit on the bed. Or the chair. Or… somethin.” He offered, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

Avim didn’t quite meet Ronan’s eyes the same way the other did, seeming to be caught in a moment of… confusion. It was when Ronan gestured around his bunk, invited him in even further, that he snapped out of it and just accepted the fact that this was an abnormality, a one-off late night visit.

“Hmm…” Avim hummed, practically grunted when he made to step further into the sergeant’s room only for that claustrophobic feeling to set in again. The main reason he’d snuck out of his own bunk was to get outside, spread his wings, literally, if only for a moment.

He glanced behind him, considering taking this as his chance to leave Ronan and any possibility of forming a friendship because of his foolishness.

But Avim didn’t move. Didn’t take a step toward the window and instead faced Ronan with a grumble. “Actually. I wanted to invite you outside. It is really quite beautiful tonight, the night sky.” The dim lighting off the room made it difficult to see but Avim was blushing a little, pale cheeks stained a soft red with an unusual shyness.

None of this made sense to him. The flustered behaviour, him seeking out companionship when he’d normally be so repulsed by the idea, convinced he’d be much happier on his own. Like he always is.

“It is a little bit silly, but you will entertain me, won’t you, sergeant?” he still said, digging his grave even further. Though, it didn’t feel like that at all, no dreadful feeling clawed at his chest or had him cowering away. Just a genuine want to spend time with Ronan.

Ronan looked between Avim and his window, contemplating for only a second before he grabbed his jacket without any other thought. “Hm. Since y’asked so nicely.” He said, grinning slightly at Avim’s last sentence. He snatched something off his desk and shoved it into his pocket, stepping up beside the hybrid.

“Are we goin’ up, or into one’a the lots?” He asked, slipping into his boots and shoving his hands into his pockets, searching Avim’s face for something again. (He didn’t really know what he was searching for, he was really just… looking.)

Firefly had been sent out to Mexico to be a stand-in for a little while, Price had told him the details about having to transfer just for a week.

As he stepped off the hangar onto the tarmac, he immediately felt a bit out of place in the midst of the other soldiers. Firefly kept his head down as he went off in search of Alejandro to continue the details.

Instead, he accidentally ran into someone - hitting chest to chest, he put his hands up as he stumbled back, preparing to catch himself. “Sorry, m’ bad,” he spoke, quiet and rough as he glanced up, meeting the eyes of the other Sergeant.

Aster was aware that Firefly would be showing up and remembered their face from the takeover of the Los Vaqueros. He didn't get much time to interact with them, with everything that had been going on during that time. He'd overheard Alejandro and Rudy talking about how someone from the task force would be transferred over as a stand-in for a week. Alejandro had asked Aster to greet and lead Firefly to the briefing room. Aster had walked out to the helicopter landing area until he felt someone bump into him. He had to look down to see that it was none other than Sergeant Firefly. He had to hold back a chuckle. He reached out and helped steady Firefly. "Aye, you've got to watch where you're going mis amigo." He teased. He steps back to take in Firefly's appearance, noting the scar on his throat. "Alejandro wanted me to show you around and help you get settled before you go meet with him," he says with a shrug. He motions for Firefly to follow him as he turns to walk towards the base.

Firefly swallowed a bit nervously as he only nodded in response to the other Sergeant, following close behind. He wasn’t really interested in getting lost in the new base after being in it for only a total of five minutes.

Firefly wasn’t… really the best for conversation, but it felt odd not trying to seem at least a little bit friendly while being lead around the new base. “…my arrival was.. uh, expected?” He asked weakly, voice working a bit overtime to not give out on him. He’d absentmindedly readjusted the neck of his sweater to just under his jaw, finding comfort in the privacy it gave from curious eyes on his throat,

Fuck, he’d probably have to get ready to have a sore throat from hell after this week. He didn’t want to cause too many communication issues just because it felt better to use texts or notes. Firefly was a grown man, he could push through.

From the corner of his eyes, Aster could notice that it was uncomfortable for Firefly to speak. With how hoarse his voice sounded and the scar on the man's throat, Aster could make the connections. "Ah, yes. We were made aware of your arrival." He says they walk off the tarmac and head into the base. "So, to start. I'm Aster Perez. I'm the team's demolitions expert." He gives a shrug. He crosses his arms over the back of his head as he walks alongside Firefly. "You're...R-ronan, right? Remember you from Shadow Company's takeover and all." He glances at Ronan, tilting his head. They were drawing closer and closer to the barracks, humming softly. He takes in Ronan's appearance. "If you'd rather use text-to-speech, or whatever makes you feel comfortable, rather than talking. I won't stop you."

Firefly nodded as Aster spoke, eyes moving constantly - from the wall, to some other people walking, then to Aster, only to cycle through the others again. “Ronan. Sullivan… Firefly,” he shrugged slightly. “Whichever’s easiest.”

Firefly wondered if his nerves were obvious. It wasn’t too often that he was sent on missions like this… normally he was just kept in his office on base, so this was a bit out of his realm. He swallowed harshly and kept close to Aster.

As the man offered alternatives, Firefly just shook his head in response - fidgeting with the neck of his sweater again. “‘M fine.” He answered simply, eyes darting towards the walls again. “Didn’t get, uh… ehem- many details on what ‘m doin’.” He changed the subject, glancing back at Aster as they reached Alejandro’s office door.
