What I and several others hoped to be a place to exchange ideas, stories, and characters, and befriend other artists like ourselves,
was really just another high school-ish society where people cling to their circles, and those that didnāt happen to fit in are left out unless theyāre noticed by the popular.
I didnāt want to believe that, even though that was my first impression of the pokeask community. I hoped the reason I felt left out was because I used traditional art as a medium in a community dominated by digital artists. I still did my best to interact with them despite our difference in mediums.
I slowly started to give up thoughā¦ Most of the ones I interacted with, we only interacted maybe once or twice. And then they just stopped interacting altogether.
I still didnāt want to think I was the one exception in the community that didnāt fit in, so I did as askbloggers did: I attended streams, I did memes, I answered every ask I could, and I kept trying to interact with other mods. Even though most didnāt even reciprocate.
In that year, I realized I spent all of it trying to find friends that I could relate to and who genuinely cared about me, not just my art. And I came up empty. I kept thinking, how do you run an askblog with no interactions? Am I going to keep begging for asks only for the same 1-2 people to send me some under anon? Everyone else seems to get pretty good asks from total strangers, so what do you want me to think?
You donāt need to answer that, by the way, I came up with the conclusion myself:
I may have revived ask-the-runner-meowstics, but its still mostly a webcomic project. I will answer asks, sure, but I know that only lasts a few days if youāre not one of the popular or cute blogs. At the least, a webcomic is something Iāve always wanted to do, all the while not forcing people to interact with me since it seems to be difficult to. Iāve done everything they do, but Iāve yet to see someone from the Circle actually try to interact with the less-cute or less-skilled blogs.
What I think of the community? Its just a bunch of people who do what they want. People will leave, people will come, they donāt care as long as they can keep doing what they want inside their circle. AS far as the people who leave, I feel bad they could not find what they were looking for: they just wanted solace and a place to nerd out about Pokemon.
But what it really is? Itās a big olā circle of cutes run by the popular.
I thought you just had to have a pokeask blog to join in, but thatās not the case here.
