I know that the recent raids and other events have us all more than a little on edge and very, very defensive. This is a perfectly valid response, especially given the fact that these people are telling us to do horrible things to ourselves.
However. There are many incredibly well-founded criticisms of Hetalia, especially regarding the early days. I am not in any way saying that the actions of the raiders are in any way justified - it’s obvious that they didn’t come here for debate, just to harass people.
One of the most common argument points that I’m sure we’ve all heard is of the name - that is to say, Axis Powers Hetalia. The rebuttal that I am, again, sure we’ve all heard is that Hetalia now goes by Hetalia World Stars, and that it’s not the same anymore.
Everyone who tags with country names still uses APH [country name]. Many artists and fic writers still tag with Axis Powers Hetalia.
We can’t keep saying that Hetalia is better because the name changed if we still use the old name. My proposal?
We don’t tag with APH anything, and instead start using HWS [country name].
I know that this solution isn’t perfect. It’ll be messy. If anybody has any better suggestions, trust me, I’m all ears. Until then, I’ll be using both tags, so as not to alienate people.
I know that change can be daunting, but looking at the responses I’ve seen from people, I think that we could use it. Please, you guys - this fandom is, in all honesty, one of the most positive places I’ve ever been. It’s so diverse and creative and global and so, so supportive and welcoming! I don’t usually say this, but honestly, when I take a look around, I really am proud to be a Hetalia fan.
So could you please help out, and spread this?
