This caricature nation character tickled me so much back in 2010, that I made a larger plushie of him for myself! I don't address him by his country name, I use his human name "Arthur" instead. (My family are from an island that was colonised and abused by the British Empire, so calling him "UK" just feels wrong. Oddly enough, my Greek-Cypriot mum thinks he's cute and funny too!)

In true pirate-captain style, Arthur has insisted on joining me at conventions around the UK. He even has his own blog here on Tumblr at @askpirateukplush !

(Psst: I be the Captain of the plush crew, but our Mum is technically the "Captain" of all of her fluff sons and daughters, and she uses her Greek name at home. So, that be why the video channels are called "Captain Eleni"!)

After 2 years of lockdowns and cancellations, I'm finally going to a convention in June! I usually take one of my hand-made plushies with me, and do a dual cosplay with them. I wanted to wear something casual on the Friday and fancied doing a casual Ancient G//reece cosplay with my Mini G//reece plush doll. We'll be dressed in sports clothes from one of the Hetalia drama CDs. (Official G//reek athlete and G//reece football kit)

My question is, is anyone wearing Hetalia cosplays at conventions now? I don't mind if no one recognises who little Herakles and me are supposed to be. I've never had a problem at this convention before concerning Hetalia. But with the backlash and hatred I've seen online about Hetalia recently, I'm concerned that people at the convention may want to brick me.

(For the record, I am G//reek-C//ypriot, so I'm not culture appropriating or pretending to be another ethnicity.)

Arthur: So today was Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as...Pancake Day! Or "It's Chewsday innit!". Tuesday? Chewsday? You "chew" on pancakes?

*No one found it funny*

Alfred: "Dude, your joke fell harder than a lead balloon man!"

Arthur: (resigned sigh) "Aaaanyway, I had my pancakes with sugar and lemon!"

Alfred: "GASP! WHAAAT?! No chocolate? No strawberries? No ice-cream with billions of sprinkles?!"

Arthur: "Yes Dear, I like my pancakes sweet with a hint of lemon! It's like eating Sherbet Lemon sweets! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to 'commandeer' these pancakes for...taste testing purposes, ahem!"

(Admin: He's a pirate, he stole them! We had to make a new batch, lol!)

Admin: My plushie floof children dress up as Ghostbusters! After seeing the trailer for the new Ghostbusters Afterlife film, Eleni and her fellow fluff family had a burning question: "Is it a ghost?"

(Starring Eren Yeager plush, Mikasa Ackerman plush and Captain Levi plush from "Attack on Titan", Herakles Karpusi/Greece plush from "Hetalia World Stars", and Link from "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" plush.

Admin: Eren plush calls me "Mama", and since Mini Eleni plush looks like me, he calls her "Mini Mama".)

Pirate UK: Happy Halloween 2021! Well we all decided to swap costumes so we could be a character we've never been before! Except me of course, I was a Mage...well I do love magic and the occult, yo ho ho! (Guest starring "Magus Myth the Unicorn" from Killstar Kreeptures)

Anyhoo: Alfred was an American Werewolf, Herakles was the spirit of a Spartan Soldier, Eleni was Medusa the Gorgon, and Kiku was a little Devil!

It was a good night for us: we ate lots of sweets, enjoyed some silly horror films and Doctor Who, and danced along to "Strictly Come Dancing's Halloween Week". We hope ye all had a fun night too!"

Pirate UK: "Herakles kicked off our own Olympic ceremony, by running a (tiny) Marathon to deliver the Olympic Torch to Kiku! We had lots of fun and cheered on our teams. Now if the Olympics had old fashioned Piracy as an Olympic Sport, I would definitely win a Gold medal, yo ho ho! Perhaps I can compete in Fencing and Shooting, hmm..."
