Daniel/Herbert
I heard word of them visiting in a week or so. When they arrive, I'll send a letter informing you immediately.
*The Professor had mentioned Weyer several times when they discussed the map to the Tomb of Tin Hinan. How the Professor would react to meeting him in person was something Daniel was curious to see. Whether ecstatically or restrained jubilation, it would be a sight worth watching.*
*Herbert nodded, his mind wandering into the not-so-distant future. How exciting it would be to meet Weyer. How.. amazing it would be. ... How strange. The idea of meeting someone far before your time was quite odd, but strangely fascinating as well. He was sure it would be a day he wouldn't forget in a hurry.*
"Thank you, Daniel. I appreciate it greatly." *A smile appeared on his face again as the thought sunk in completely- "Well, this should be an exciting week!"
Daniel/Herbert
I chose to return because this is my home. Agrippa and Weyer have little to come back to, considering how much the world has changed during their respective absences. I'm not opposed to traveling with them again, but this is where I belong.
"Ah, I see, Daniel." *He paused again, pondering for a moment before continuing.* "I would prefer to stay here as well, I believe. Although I have nothing here tying me down - or little, at the most - it is still my home. Despite my curiosity regrading another dimension, another culture, even, I would still remain here in the end. Say, do you have an approximate date, as far as Agrippa and Weyer's return goes?"
Daniel/Herbert
I'll approach the subject when they arrive. After such a long absence from this world, I think they will want to stay here for a little while before returning. *The young man nodded simply with the slightest of smiles. No doubt, Professor Herbert would be awestruck at the things Daniel and his new friends had seen.*
*Herbert nodded once, returning his focus to the journals in front of him as he acknowledged the other's words.*
"And understandably so. I imagine being in a place with different customs, culture, and even a different language is very tiring. I'd enjoy a bit of down time at home as well."
*The professor paused for a moment, a question growing in his mind.* "Say, Daniel. If they still abide in the other world, why is it that you're here in this one? Did you simply choose to come back earlier?"
Daniel/Herbert
About that, Herbert… *The man's voice trailed off, but his tone reflected excitement.* There is a possibility of recovering more information about this language, because Agrippa and Weyer are planning to return here, soon. In that time, I plan to relearn the language as much as possible, so that this may be decoded.
*An eyebrow raised at Daniel's sigh, and Herbert's eyes turned their gaze to the other, wondering what he was going to reveal.*
"Hmm?" *A half-hearted inquiry answered, and Herbert returned to studying the journals at hand. His attention was completely snagged, however, when his friend continued, and he straightened up, removing his elbows form his knees as the pen went to rest in the journal.*
"Oh, they are? Say, Daniel, would you mind if I tagged along? I wouldn't mind learning a bit about this other culture myself."
Professor Herbert, I was wondering if you had any other interesting stories when you were on your trip that you would like to tell about yourself and my son? If that is possible?~
Oh my, well, we certainly shared some very interesting stories. I'd of course be more than willing to share - what kind of story do you wish to hear? There are incidents on that expedition ranging from hilarious to frighting.
Nyan Herbert!
Daniel/Herbert
Yes, well, let me see. *The young man leaned over the first journal entry in the alien language, now in broken English. His eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the page, trying to discern the writing.*
I think I can make sense of this. May I? *Takes the journal from Herbert and begins to fill in the missing pieces of the entry. Some spots are quickly filled, while others are left empty. These were entries written a year ago, after all. Some of what he wrote about was now hazy in his memory. Daniel placed the letters where he was certain they belonged, and then left the mysterious areas blank, as Herbert had left them.*
*Herbert watched as Daniel filled in the blanks, mentally checking off the letters which his friend translated. A frown crossed his face at how many blanks were left, and he extended a hand, inquiring the journal.*
"Ah.. that.. helps a bit. Thank you." *Taking the open pages, he continued to observe the writing, trying to piece together the words that were not yet completed.* "It seems that we're missing about... 7 letters, Daniel." *He glanced up to his friend and then returned his eyes to the notebook.* "I'll need your help still. We still have a fair number of blanks to fill."
Daniel/Herbert
Your logic and reasoning never ceases to amaze me, Herbert. I have been at a loss with these notes for months, but now there is a much higher chance of understanding all this.
*Daniel really appreciated having a friend as intelligent as Herbert. His eyes skimmed over the text, a grin spreading across his face. With this knowledge his alien notes could be read, and the information gathered during his journeys with Agrippa and Weyer could be salvaged.*
*Herbert chuckled, a slight smile growing on his face. He paused, reading over the spotty English that now covered the page. After a moment, he turned towards his friend, wanting his help in the matter.*
"Daniel, I may need your help here. As these are your notes, I believe you'll be able to make more sense of what I have now; since you did write them, you should know the context and general idea of the passage - thus helping to understand which words would make sense and which do not."
You're so awkward with poor Daniel.
So.. awkward?
Ahah, I believe it is Daniel who is awkward with me, at least on occasion. As much as I enjoy his company and friendship, he never really learned how to take a joke, nor how to go about playing one. It caused some rather.. awkward moments in the past... Awkward for him, at least.
You're so Herbbles. :y
...Herbbles... what an amusing nickname!
But, yes, I am so myself!
"You're so.." finish it in my ask.
Lust- and don't say "Daniel with a parasol".
Ah, well you got me there!
Hmm... well, in all honesty, I never quite pin pointed one specific thing, nor was I able to narrow it down to even a couple. I find a wide variety of things attractive.
Envy, Gluttony, and Wrath
Ah.
What I wish I could be better at, a food I like, and something that makes me angry.
Alexander came asking what angered me as well...
Hrm. Well, I have been told that my French isn't quite prefect. ... I can't say that I agree, but I suppose if I had to choose something, that would be it.
And Turkish delights are absolutely wonderful!
Wrath?
Ah, what makes me angry.
I must say, There aren't many things that are able to annoy me, let alone evoke my true anger. But there are a couple things that never fail to irritate me.
First off, my tea. I like it a very specific way. It irritates me mildly when it turns out otherwise.
What actually angers me, however, is a complete disregard for history and the importance of the past. How anyone could be so ignorant as to think that the past is not important irks me to infinite degrees.
...Some of Daniel's more ridiculous questions occasionally did get on my nerves, as well, but more often than not they served as a source of amusement.
7 deadly sins. put one in my ask.
Lust: Something that I find attractive.
Pride: Something that I like about myself.
Sloth: Something that I dislike about myself.
Envy: Something I wish I was better at.
Gluttony: One of my favorite foods.
Wrath: Something that gets me angry.
Greed: Something I can’t get enough of.
Daniel/Herbert
*Daniel sat down. These were times when it was best to leave Herbert to work, but the young man was intrigued to watch how well and how quickly the reasoning of certain matters unfolded in Herbert's notes. He was able to pick up on that when he skimmed through the Professor's travel log from the expedition to Algeria. Daniel peered over the older man's shoulder as he worked, curious to find out what his notes in the alien language meant as well.*
*Herbert worked quickly, now off in his own world, unaware of Daniel's actions. The professor's eyes moved back and forth rapidly, jumping from a symbol, to the English translation, and then to the page where he jotted them down. Withing a matter of minutes, the first paragraph has been transcribed - save for the missing letters. He paused, holding the pencil up from the page as he read what his friend had earlier written.*
Ah, and now, we must figure out these blanks. You see, it's only a matter of figuring out what the English should say - completing the words, so to speak, so that it makes sense. Once a pattern is set up - a certain character seeming to be the equivalent of say, A, then we'll be able to see if that is true, simply by plugging it in.
