I just realised I don't think I posted anything on here publicly about PR!Quint...

It's time to fix that.

Okay, so I wanted Quint to be different than most other quints out there.

The main thing here being that this Quint is future Blues instead of future Rock.

"Oh, but why would wily go for Blues instead of Rock?" You may be asking

The simple answer is that he tried to.

Maybe Rock was away with Dr. Light on some business, maybe future wily warned Light in advance to not let Rock out the lab no matter what.

Whatever the reason, Rock was unavailable, and so Blues, being the helpful kid he is, goes to Wily's lab instead, only to realise too late what was going on.

What hurts most is that out of the three, Blues was closest with Wily, The guy became a second dad to him. And his trust was (intentionally or otherwise) shattered.

When being modified, Wily ended up breaking something that now causes Quint to shake uncontrollably, and his eyes are always squiggles now too.

Wily also modified the laws of robotics to only apply to himself so that Quint would be incapable of betraying him.

Oh, and he also forced Quint to destroy everything he ever cared about so he'd have nothing to go back to.

Shit like that is why we hate him, ANYWAY!

So, the general 'wily plot' would carry out as it usually would, Dr. Light and Blues would watch from the lab as usual until Rock and Roll got to the Quint fight when the feed would get cut off.

Quint ends up revealing himself as future Blues during the fight. Shock, horror, and denial (from roll specifically)

From there, Rock tries to convince him to stop, but Quint keeps fighting. He's got no choice, after all.

Until enevotably...

...Quint was taken out.

Rock is understandably upset that he couldn't save Quint, and Roll herself is relatively shaken up by what she did.

As requested, Rock and Roll didn't tell Blues the true identity of Quint.

The most he was told was that he was from the future and that Roll killed him to save Rock.

He hasn't canonically found out yet, and I'm still planning out if he ever will. (He's pretty used to Roll keeping secrets.)

But I do think Rock would tell Dr. Light about Quint in private.

And that's basically it.

fun little tidbit, if asked faux would say that ss!rock's form "feels different", probably because of the copy error thing he has. Faux can't copy weapons or anything while in the form of rock/roll/protoman or anyone who copies weapons (and tbh i'm still kinda tweaking how his ability works) but i like to think if Faux touched someone while "wearing" ss!rock he kinda "glitches" a bit before turning back to his default form. (It's hard to describe)

I would like to present a similar situation but with an added fun fact about Rock

Rock carries around what he calls 'emergency duct tape', which is normal duct tape he has on hand in case someone (in this example, Roll) gets damaged, so he can hold them together until they get to whoever it is that can help.

My friend actually came up with it while we were joking about how Roll would *technically* get sliced in half multiple times if you count the X timeline. (Which yes, presuming it's a timeline where Rock is fixed by light, he still has the duct tape with him)

End of the events of X1, Roll gets broken in half, and Rock just pulls out the emergency duct tape

"You still have that with you??"

Rock starts duct taping her

"YES"

"... You haven't changed a bit."

So in sibling shuffle, basically

Roll is Megaman

Blues/Protoman is Roll

Rock is Blues/Protoman

Right?

The premise behind Sibling Shuffle is that those characters end up in those roles / positions, while trying to keep their personalities as intact as I possibly can. Basically, it’s a Role swap that I’m trying to keep from being a personality swap. It was partially inspired by the AU @askprotoroll by @teammelodies, and partially by some “Red String” Thinking about other “swap” types of AU’s (for example, Storyshift from the Undertale fandom also partially inspired the premise)

But yes, those are the main “shuffles” in this au!

Sibling Shuffle AU

Piano & Forte (aka “Bass”)!

It struck me while I was conceptualizing this AU that, if Bass was made based on Rock’s plans, then if Roll was the hero, she would probably have a counter that more directly counters herself. However, I didn’t want to gender swap Bass, but I also didn’t want to get rid of him entirely. So, here’s the two of them. I made Piano blonde because I couldn’t think of what other color to make her hair. I would’ve done pink or purple, but I thought that would stand out too much. I used the pink for her eyes, instead.

Piano was created to counter Roll, but she’s not actually hostile towards her. While she is not compliant to the three laws, she respects Dr. Wily more than Bass does. She is not above sabotaging Wily when he attempts to create robots that are stronger than her, however.

Forte - AKA “Bass” - was created to be a support for her. Unfortunately for Piano, Bass was only interested in researching how to fight. Wily even installed a link between the two - he can, when given access, see through Piano’s eyes - but he STILL is only interested in combat-based research. Treble is their wolf-dog-thing. While Bass claimed ownership of her, she’s technically a support unit for Piano.

Sibling Shift Au

Okay, so, here’s my first official thing for the Sibling Shuffle AU: Rock & Roll. In this AU, I basically took their “roles”, kept their personalities as best as I could, and moved them around a bit. Inspirations from Fellow Tumblr-based AUs: Some of Roll’s design is based on @askprotoroll by @teammelodies, and the visor on Rock’s helmet was partially inspired by @miserymet’s Mega Man Manufactured AU. One of the notes references @iveneverplayedmegaman’s Cutman Does His Best.

I couldn’t think of any ways to meaningfully deviate from Rock’s Mega Man design other than to add a scarf. However, I did think it would be hilarious if someone in the role of Blues didn’t know how to whistle.

I need some time to tweak Blues’s design (first it started looking like ProtoRoll!Blues in sunglasses, then I messed with the colors & shapes, and now it looks strange) but I’ll get that out soon-ish

Why I gave them both freckles: based on an ultimately useless HC that all of the Lights have freckles. That’s… literally it.

Rock was created after Blues and before Roll, but activated AFTER Roll because there was a programming error that Dr. Light couldn’t seem to figure out. Since Dr. Wily was, at the time, still Light’s friend, he offered to take a look at it. However, he never got around to returning Rock home before turning against Light & his family. Thus, Rock starts out not knowing that he even has a family, other than a strange feeling he gets from time to time.

Roll was created last. She didn’t have the same programming error as Rock, and thus was activated before him. When Wily made his first attempt to take over the world, Blues tried to volunteer, but since he’d managed to convince Dr. Light to not replace his core (and risk erasing his personality) already and the Mega Buster draws power from the core, Dr. Light said he’d definitely have to replace Blues’s core if he were to go. Roll volunteered in his place before he could make that choice.

I gave them a bond based loosely on how I’ve heard "split-spark" bonds in Transforners described. I needed Rock to have something to have planted a seed of doubt in his mind… having a connection with your supposedly-nonexistent sibling aught to do it, yeah?
