anyway, imma go on a tangent about corvus since i've done that with the other two

so corvus is a reaper from a doomed reapermare timeline

explanation below the cut, tw for assisted suicide

essentially, reaper and nightmare were childhood friends [both misunderstood immortals] and reaper was there when nightmare got corrupted. they grew more distant, though reaper would still do favours for nightmare. eventually, nightmare couldn't handle his own negativity/reputation, so he asked reaper to help kill him by eating his soul

[side note: that is my personal headcanon for nightmare- the only way he can die by someone who isnt dream is if they eat his soul]

however, this transferred the negativity curse to reaper, making him the god of negativity as well as death, hence how corvus came to be. he regrets what he did and struggles with love because he's scared of hurting people. he struggles with accepting when he grows attached to people and prefers being alone just to minimise the risk- so he leaves the other two a lot, sometimes for days on end.

the longest he's ever been gone was a week, and they've mostly gotten used to it, they just assume he needs his space

basalt really likes him because he's a reaper, obviously he likes him- and rou can relate to him because they both killed their loved ones

or im gonna at least draw their full bodies in colour so that i get a feel of what they look like

i might end up making lil adjustments to their designs when i do that btw

so like. i did start the comic to open the asks

but its taking a long time cuz my motivation is all over the place

so i made another silly guy he was originally called grief!cross but im renaming him guilt!cross i'll write a fic / oneshot for him eventually but the short version is that. kross. cross killed killer on accident. panic-absorbed his soul [since killer's soul is neither monster nor human]. got all fucked up. sees shit that aint there.

anyway here he is this is just a shitty magma sketch bc i got lazy but it gets the point across and he's supposed to be more monstrous than this but i didnt feel like making him more monstrous idk wtf was going on with his pose tbh

that jacket isn't his btw, it's killer's he snatched it after killer died cuz his own was covered in killer's determination, blood, dust, etc and plus it reminds him of him

so first of all, i was experimenting, as you can probably tell by the style switch from the usual i also messed around a bit with different filters and blending modes and such, so there's that secondly, basalt[left]'s design is still a wip, as is corvus[right]'s so yeah, don't expect those designs to stick

anyway i have a silly guy i wish to share i don't think i've talked about him much at all to anyone except for my friends but i love him and i figured i should bring him into the world because i am normal about him so. his name is basalt he's a version of murder,, and so like.

basically, in my main 'au' of sorts, murder is besties with reaper [my reaper is nicknamed thanatos so yeah :3] because after he actually managed to beat the player [the player gave up 💀💀], he was just kinda. left alone in dusttale until thanatos showed up to reap the dead of dusttale :3 now usually, normal Guys™ can't see him but sometimes, rarely, those with high LV can and murder just so happens to have very high LV so he can see thanatos he sees him just like walking around and he's kinda like 'huh. that's sus,,,' bc he killed everyone and WHY is there a dude first he just brushes it off as a hallucination because he is VERY aware that he's insane and schizophrenic but then he keeps seeing him just about everywhere so one day he decides to check it out and he goes up to thanatos and is just like 'yo. dude. who tf are you' and then thanatos is obviously surprised that he's been noticed so he's just kinda like 'oh yea so uhhh,,, im the grim reaper or something,,,' and murder's like 'wha- so like. why are u here' and thanatos is just like 'doign my job' anywya blah blah blah they talk for a while and then thanatos leaves but then he comes back occasionally and every time, murder finds him and has a conversation with them and soon enough thanatos starts coming back even after he's finished his work and he becomes besties with murder :D but also like. thanatos doesnt go back to his au anymore cuz he's been coded out of it since he's away from it so often, but thats a story for another day anyway, they soon become like therapists for each other thanatos tells murder about interwsting things that happen while on the job and also about his relationship struggles [thanatos has SO much angst and i absolutely love him for it] and murder tells thanatos about how fucked up he is also there's an alternate timeline in which murder eventually gets cursed alastor cat as a pet but that is not in this timeline [don't ask, it was a silly thought my friend and i had bc my headcanon murder had a cat named alastor {THAT WAS BEFORE I WAS EVER IN THE HH FANDOM BTW} ] and so yeah they're therapist besties but then uh. thanatos dies [i havent figured out how yet, i will eventually]

and that's when basalt exists! so basically uh. murder was just kinda handed thanatos's powers and job and thanatos TOLD him this would happen if he ever were to die, since he basically has to choose an heir to hand his power to [and he has a shit ton of kids, but all of his kids hate him so he didn't want to put that on them] which this is how basalt finds out about thanatos's death and he's just kinda shocked because how the fuck does the grim reaper die buuut he eventually uh. just accepts it and becomes rhe grim reaper he has no friends until further notice im gonna draw him but i made him in gacha [yes i am a gacha kid, cry about it] anyway

he is a skele btw i just can't make skeles in gacha also im going to change his design bc i made it too colourful [it's a habit :,)] and too complicated in a weird way that i cant draw his outfit makes like zero sense even to me

so like. im thinking of his design and trying to figure out some good motifs i was thinking of going with a plague doctor type of look but then i was like 'hmm. i probably need an explanation for that' bc not only do plague doctors represent death, but they also represent disease so i was thinking: what would be the disease part of it?

and then i had a thought: insanity.

insanity is a disease, if you really think about it. it's like a virus that slowly deteriorates your mental health the longer you suffer from it. and murder is insane,,, so i was thinking that could be the disease part of it :3 and maybe i can give him some extra ability that induces mania or something and btw idk if i mentioned this but murder was originally from a dlg timeline [last genocide] so he's even crazier than og dusttale sans but he's a lil more chill as a god of death for the most part

and what i mean by 'a little more chill' is that he keeps his violent urges inside and holds them back oh, and something relating to that: so murder used to get these things called lv spikes, which you guys have probably heard of if you've read certain fics with murder in them anyway, lv spikes are essentially when a monster with very high lv goes into what is basically a trance in which their SOUL generates more magic than it can handle, so it sends them into a state where they are spontaneously violent and will not calm down until they get rid of that excess magic. this is a natural response by the SOUL in order to maintain its health, as, if it generates too much magic, the effects can be similar to high magic pressure [the monster equivalent of high blood pressure] and may even cause a SOUL attack, which, for monsters, is the equivalent of a heart attack.

murder in particular already had excess magic due to determination and gaster's interference, so he gets these a lot more frequently than most with high lv do. however, once murder becomes basalt, he gains even MORE magic, which now, you must be asking: "well dustin, wouldn't that make him more violent?" and to that i say, technically, with the information i've given, it would seem like it would. HOWEVER. that is not the case.

gods [thanatos, life, grimm, etc] naturally, have more magic than average monsters should. and, in the case of thanatos and reapertale!undyne, they probably have rather high lv. so you'd think that would be a recipe for lv spikes, right? well, it isn't. why? gods' SOULs are more tolerant to tons of magic than the SOULs of mortals, since naturally, their SOUL would generate more magic than that of a mortal. so once murder becomes basalt, his SOUL becomes more durable and more tolerant to the insane amount of magic he has. so he's a little more predictable these days... buut he still says the most out-of-pocket shit you've ever heard at times, just for the sillies
