“Oh! Hi,Dad! Yeah I’ve been taking care of myself and well..I’ve been holding up quite well..could be better but I’m not gonna complain”

Yoshio could read his son’s body language like an open book. Something was wrong, he was lying. Something was bothering Kenta.

“And what is it exactly that you’re not complaining about?”

[Kenta sweated and gulped. Dammit. Why must his dad find out so quickly?He stuffed his face in the pillow,whimpering like a sad puppy.]

“I..It’s nothing,dad..”

“Like hell it’s something.”

The older man let a tired sigh escape his lips and resisted the urge to give Kenta a gentle pat. He was an adult now, this wasn’t like a school bully.

“You should take better care of yourself, or I’ll have to find someone to take care of you myself. And stop lying, it’s not a good look on you.”

[Kenta gritted his teeth and tears formed in his eyes. His blue flames lit up from his shoulders. Was he sad? Was he-. He looked at Yoshio and was clearly angry.]

“OH LIKE I HAVEN’T BEEN TRYING TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF THIS WHOLE TIME! I TRY BUT THOSE UNGRATEFUL BASTARDS KEEP ON BEING THE BASTARDS THEY ARE! I NEVER GET ANY DAMN REST! THEY KEEP COMING AND COMING! EVERY SINGLE TIME!!”

[He yelled and pulled both his jacket sleeves up,revealing the wounds to Yoshio.]

“DO YOU THINK I DO THIS TO MYSELF?? ON PURPOSE?? HUH?? HUH?!?”

Yoshio's eyes widened. Not out of horror or fear, but shock. How often did this happen, every week, maybe every single day? And although he didn't focus on it as much, it crossed his mind that Kenta was angry, his fire was showing for pete's sake. He reached out to examine the wounds, but he hesitated, not wanting to hurt the other (or get himself hurt, for that matter).

"No... no I never thought you'd do this to yourself. I just think you should try to stand up for yourself ...I care about you."

That last part was out of nervous caution, for he wanted to keep Kenta calm. His father's quirk wasn't exactly fireproof, after all.

[Kenta giggled and hugged his dad back. It was great to see him again after so long.]

“It’s been so long since I’ve last seen you,papa! I hope you’ve been well!”

Yoshio was about to give Kenta a pat when he noticed the harsh bruised limbs. The old man settled on crossing his arms instead and huffed.

"You haven't been keeping the bandages on!"

“You mean our relationship? I’m afraid I can’t speak for Kenta, but I myself am very proud of my son! Though I can’t help but worry for him, or give him a good scolding when he needs it.”
