(I'm not sure if you've answered this question already or not, but I wanted to ask: are these characters based on the game versions or the manga versions of the characters? I figured I'd ask, but if I had to guess, it's the game versions, right?)

That’s correct! I haven’t read any of the manga past the platinum arc, and basing them on the game characters gives a lot more to work with, anyway.
