Jegulus La La Land AU

Where James is Mia and Regulus is Sebastian. More detailed explanation below cut!

James is an aspiring actor who lives in an apartment with the marauders and works at a coffee shop on the Warner Brothers lot. Poor thing just can’t book a single acting gig. 

He goes to a Hollywood party with the marauders and meets Regulus, a musician who cares entirely too much about jazz and dreams of opening a jazz club one day. It’s pretty much love from the very beginning.

They’re going steady for a few months, when Regulus gets offered a spot in a touring jazz band, which he accepts. After so much time of James and Regulus being forced to be apart from each other because of the tour, they break up, and James pretty much gives up on acting.

A few weeks later, Regulus hears about an open role that would be PERFECT for James, and forces him to audition. James books it. But at this point, they’re both at wildly different points in their careers and they both know it wouldn’t work out if they were to get back together. So, once again, they go their separate ways.

YEAAARS later, James is an A list actor and is married Lily Evans (Who he loves dearly, thank you very much!). On a date night, the two of them end up at a Jazz club called Reg’s. The name reminds James of another time in his life where he pushed the man he loved to chase his dreams. He remembers briefly, a napkin drawing of the same logo his current wife was being illuminated by. Once inside he sees the eyes he once knew better than his own. They’ve both gone their separate ways to pursue their dreams, but they know that they wouldn’t be in those positions without the other. There’s a bittersweet feeling of what could’ve been.

(We are in fact going to pretend Sirius and Regulus aren't brothers and don't know each other for the sake of the AU.)

James can't cry, except when he's with his parents. He wants to cry, but literally can't. His throat aches and his voice cracks, but no tears come.

But there was this day, when they learned that Regulus died. James just looked empty at first, but when he entered his room and saw Regulus' sweater still on the floor beside his bed, he realised and fell on his knees, crying and screaming and begging whatever made this happen to give him back to him, but nothing happened. Regulus was still gone, and James was alone, with only the memory of his lover and few sweaters of him.
