Sleeping Lessons - ‘Cellar Door’ (E.P.)
Sleeping lessons recently announced that they are putting the final touches on the songwriting for their new E.P. and that it should be ready for release early next year.
As a celebration of this exciting news Scatter felt it was fit to revisit their debut release ‘Cellar Door’.
'Cellar Door' is a storming emotional hardcore record. Heavily influenced by acts such as Pianos Become the Teeth and Touche Amore, the band utilise melodic guitar lines distorting when necessary but brilliantly resting on clean tones throughout the record to contrast the harsh vocals. 'Winter Mourning' features prominent use of quiet/loud instrumentation in the vein of La Disputes work, this emphasises the anger and pain in the vocals.Â
What sets Sleeping Lessons apart from other bands in the genre is their ability to change direction in their songs so quickly. E.P. opener ‘Eleven Eleven’ seems to cram several tracks into a 3 minute single this unique songwriting style adds an heir of schizophrenia to their hardcore influenced sound causing each song to feel like the inner workings of some of the genres pioneers minds working as one.Â
'Cellar Door' was a exciting debut from the Cheltenham band and a good indicator that future releases will be ones to keep an eye on.
4/5.

UPDATE: 18/11/13
Hello there. We're SLEEPING LESSONS. Maybe you remember us as doing that EP that you, 'kind of liked', or maybe you saw us on tour last April with Life & Limb? Well, we just want to clear some things up for those that still care.
We've had super shit luck with our practice studio and our daily lives, which means we haven't properly practised together in a few months, but that's soon to change. As of this week, we're getting together and finally putting finishing the songwriting part of our second EP, which you should be able to hear early 2014. We really regret how long it's taken, as we know that we should have had this done 6 months ago, but such is life.
We hope you'll continue to support us and our music. We still have a few pieces of merch left over at http://www.merch.sleepinglessons.co.uk if you'd like to pick something up.
All the best,
SLEEPING LESSONS
