this is a short bonus scene that takes place right after chapter 5 of my fic Chosen. it contains spoilers for that chapter!
Training with All Might the next day is...awkward. Izuku didn’t really have a chance beforehand to tell him about inviting Kacchan.
Okay, he could have, but he wasn’t sure what to say. Inviting Kacchan had been spur-of-the-moment, and if All Might seemed like he thought it was a bad idea, Izuku didn’t know if he had the guts to rescind the invitation.
And anyway, he didn’t want to take it back. Kacchan is his—
Kacchan is the only one in his class who knows about One For All, so he’s the only one who could come to these sessions. And Kacchan is strong, and smart, and he’s studied Izuku’s fighting style this year just like Izuku has studied his.
If anyone in their class can help Izuku get better with his bestowed quirk, it’s Kacchan.
“You stole this move from me, too, didn’t you,” Kacchan accuses as he watches Izuku practice using a Delaware Smash Air Force.
“I did not!” Izuku protests in a huff. “I wasn’t even thinking about you when I came up with this!”
“Yeah, right,” Kacchan mutters, then turns to All Might. “All Might, when can I fight him?”
“What?” Izuku asks, startled.
“What do you mean, ‘what’? What the hell else did I come here for?”
“Boys,” All Might says, with maybe a bit of exasperation. He had been obviously surprised to see Kacchan, and hadn’t at all seemed convinced by Izuku’s haphazard explanation for his presence, but he didn’t protest, and he still hasn’t.
“Maybe for today it’s best if you just observe, young Bakugou. We can talk about one-on-one sparring another time.”
“Fine,” Kacchan says, obviously annoyed but not arguing about it. “Do it again, nerd, let’s see what you’ve got.”
Izuku winces, but does what he’s told, and hopes his near future doesn’t feature a stern lecture from his favorite hero.
“You should have asked me before inviting young Bakugou to your training,” All Might scolds the next day.
“Right, I’m sorry, All Might,” Izuku says, looking at the floor. “It was...sort of an accident. I…” He sighs. “I kind of...messed up, and I was trying to fix it. But I do think it’s a good idea! Kacchan is the best fighter in our class, and since he already knows everything about my quirk, doesn’t it make sense for him to help out? Especially since you said yourself we need to learn from each other!”
All Might very blatantly tries to hide a smile. “You have a point. He clearly intends to fight you again, though, which I’m not sure is a great idea. There would be no way to keep it secret, and on top of that, I don’t think I could stop you two if it got out of hand.”
Izuku feels his eyes go wide. “It wouldn’t—you wouldn’t need to stop us. We would never...try to seriously hurt each other...”
All Might smiles more openly this time. “I didn’t necessarily mean it like that. There’s also the property damage to consider.”
“Oh, right,” Izuku says sheepishly. “That.”
“I’ll think about it,” All Might decides, then stands up. Izuku follows suit. “There might be a way to work something out.”
“Thank you, All Might!” Izuku bows, then leaves the room.
He’s on his way to his next class when it hits him that he never actually said he wanted to fight Kacchan.
Well. All Might knows him well enough by now to not need to ask, probably.
