you know what? I'm a big fan of those old city structures where there's a bridge connecting two houses and that bridge is also made of house. And there's a walkable street underneath it. Like I get why they're not good for fire safety but fuck yeah you get more house for house and also do not obstruct pedestrians. The indoors person, old houses enthusiast, and unobstructed pedestrian in me delights in that.
it's such a sadness to me that kids eventually lose that 'no filter' thing when they grow up. my niece asked what 9/11 is and someone explained it to her and her unfiltered conclusion was "bro. is that it"
it's not glamorous, but it's also not honest work, and nobody needs to do it

The bimbo feminism girls who love Legally Blonde really missed like the whole point of the movie. The point is that she's not a brainless bimbo. She saves the day with her knowledge of haircare, sure, but she got in the room by going to law school. You cannot reduce that movie down to "Girl knowledge saves the day!" because the perm wouldn't have mattered if she hadn't spent the entire rest of the movie working her ass off in an unrelated field. The feminist angle is that she can have girly interests and also be smart, not that having girly interests is feminist in itself
I think it's also worth adding that the main reason Elle is so effective is because she's sweet to everyone and finds ways to connect with people. She's not sitting around judging other women for knowing less about beauty than she does. So if you're making tiktoks about being That Girl or snarking at other girls, you did NOT learn your lesson from Elle Woods.
Oh, we really can't be keeping THAT gem in the tags.
Based.
I'm glad somebody in government is saying it explicitly without mincing words.
Abolish the Republican Party.
Sometimes YouTube recommends me something I give so few fucks about that it actually offends me
sometimes when my mom gets drunk she goes into Liberated Women Mode, and one time she was real tipsy and while talking about her friend’s divorce, she very earnestly told me and my sister (both adults) that regardless of preference or relationship, she hoped we would both reach a point in our lives where we were having really good sex with really good people. and my sister said, “i do that now except the good people part” and i said, “sex is real?” and my mom didn’t love either of those answers
Very funny that the ‘Red flag/green flag’ creator guy is being sponsored by Better Help.
Which is a giant red flag.
Better Help is not a good company. If you want therapy, search for a local therapist.
If I'm asked what I'm making a face at, how would I even explain this to an extremely-offline friend or relative?
This guy's whole creator persona is him reacting to various online videos which he then cuts with clips of him running with a giant red or green flag across an open area.
'Red flags' are commonly used to describe things that are unacceptable in a relationship, or are indicative of worse behaviour down the line. An example would be someone who is rude to waiting staff on a first date - it is an early sign of what sort of person they are. Green flags are the opposite.
Better Help are a company which offers an online service promising to match people with therapists, and allowing them to receive counselling via video or voice chat.
The FTC ruled that BetterHelp engaged in deceptive data collection practices, pushing their users to supply sensitive information and then sold it to third parties like Facebook. They were fined a mere $7.8 million in 2023.
Users have reported finding it difficult to cancel their subscription, and that their payment plans are designed to confuse and extract as much money as possible.
The other side is just the service is just subpar. Therapists qualifications have been called into question, and it's a common trend that appointments are rescheduled with very little notice.
The amount of money they spend on influencer advertising especially makes me think BetterHelp operates like Uber on the driver side. They need a constant influx of new users who haven't experienced the service before.
So the flag guy accepting a sponsorship for BetterHelp is a red flag.
Also this isn't an anti-therapy post in the slightest. Just find a therapist that works for you elsewhere rather than a predatory online portal.
I will say I've also heard from people say they specifically asked for a non religious therapist and then being given a hyper religious person that like tries to stop you from transitioning or being ok w your gayness etc
"At BetterHelp, we match you with the right CONVERSION therapist for your needs."
I found my therapist on BetterHelp years ago when I was bed bound and couldn’t attend in person meetings. This was pre-pandemic so Zoom wasn’t really that common yet.
Less than a few months in, my therapist who I really liked, informed me she was leaving the platform because they weren’t paying her what they had promised, and asked if I would like to continue with online sessions on a different hippa compliant service she was joining. I said yes and jumped ship and she’s still my therapist over 7 years later.
It’s a shit platform for everyone.
I saw the word "subscription" and need to chime in here with another reason you should avoid BetterHelp as a patient: money! BetterHelp would financially screw you over even without their inescapable subscription system.
(And what I'm going to say mainly applies to the American healthcare industry. If you're not in America and you can get more affordable therapy, please for the love of god don't bother with BetterHelp.)
A quick search about BetterHelp subscriptions gives you this.
BetterHelp’s monthly psychotherapy subscription plans range from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks) for a weekly phone, video, or live messaging session with a licensed mental health professional counselor and therapist. This pricing for counseling online is more cost-effective than the national US market average of $125 to $199 per session. (https://www.betterhelp.com/online-therapy/)
This is deceptive. Why? Copays.
(Aside, tumblr, why are your quote blocks huge now.)
If you happen to have medical insurance that covers therapy, you are probably not paying "$129 to $199 per session". Your therapist is billing your insurance, and then your insurance is paying them everything except your copay, which you then owe. (And if your insurance is worth a damn, you might even see that copay go to your cost-sharing.)
I've been doing therapy for nearly two years now. My therapist bills roughly $250 per session to my insurance. What I actually pay is $40 per session, or $160 for four weeks. In comparison to the estimated $260 to $400 apparently billed by BetterHelp every four weeks.
Unless your copay -- heavy emphasis on copay and not the amount billed to insurance, because people tend to get those confused -- is higher than the estimated weekly BetterHelp fee, you are getting financially screwed picking BetterHelp.
"But isn't there a premium with that insurance?"
Yeah my partner gets our insurance through work, and the premiums are not cheap. But here's the thing: it's the insurance I already require to see other specialists and get other medications to stay alive. Insurance is not optional for me. It's not optional for a lot of people. If you already have it, if you're already paying them their damn premiums, you might as well use it and make them pay most of your therapy costs.
And if you happen to have something like Medicaid, maybe you pay nothing at all.
In either case, why would you want to give BetterHelp $400 a month?
"But what if I want to use BetterHelp AND my insurance?"
Okay, let's see what BetterHelp says about this.
Services offered through a BetterHelp subscription are generally not covered by health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. (https://www.betterhelp.com/faq/)
That's a no.
Just. Take the time. To find a licensed therapist. Who treats the condition you need treated. Who has experience working with people with similar needs. Who uses methods that you find helpful. And who takes your insurance.
I know it's harder than just paying a subscription and "getting matched" or whatever, but the comments above explain why "getting matched with a therapist" is not a great idea anyway.
Adding on to this that in the US at least, your plan may not have a copay!! Some plans do not have copays and instead have a co-insurance amount; essentially your therapist will bill your insurance for the full amount, and a contract is made with your insurance that the office/therapist can bill X amount to you- and that amount is often seemingly random yet specific.
Co-insurance can still be cheaper than cash pay or the plan in that quote, but it is definitely worth asking, because going up to pay and being given a random number like $149.52 can be really confusing for people who don’t understand their plan or insurance.

my favorite AITA ruling comments
“Omg, I love these! They go up to size 6X AND they have pockets?! Wow!! But do you have anything longer?”
Sure do, no problem!!
“YES these are great!!! But what about.. longer?”
I gotcha!! Comin’ right up!
“Perfect! But I have just one more question… what if I’m feeling spicy? How about skirts that are even shorter than the first ones?!”
Oh, you’re in luck! We’ve got minis now.
