It has been a long time friends

So haven't posted in forever but I'm going to try and start posting more frequently. 

To start off my new posting trend. I would like to talk about the band Upset who released their debut album "She's gone" last October on Don Giovanni records. The bands frontwomen Ali Koehler is the former drummer for Best Coast and The Vivian Girls.Two of my favorite bands. Also Patty Schemel former hole drummer is the current drummer in Upset. Let's hope that the Schemel/Koehler union will stick unlike the Cosentino/Koehler situation. Let's be honest Best Coast was much better when Ali played drums but that is a rant for a different day. 

 It is evident that Koehler has not strayed from her musical roots. Overall I would give the album a 6 out of 10. 'She's Gone" is full of pop-punk-garage guitar riffs and lyrical hooks. Definitely worth a listen. I have very high hopes for a sophomore album if they continue with their project.

Holy Ghost!'s "Dynamics" dropped yesterday

After listening to this album on repeat for the last day, I can honestly say that I love it. Holy Ghost! continues to amaze with production value. Their sound continues to be catchy, poppy and upbeat. Don't worry the nods to 80's post punk are deeply rooted in the new LP. 

Dynamics, which is not as "dance-y" as their first self-titled LP, has more depth or if you so desire more "dynamic" overall. I think the album speaks for it's self. It is worth a download or at least a stream on their soun

Standout tracks: Bridge and Tunnels, Dumb disco Ideas, Okay, It must be the weather & Don't look down.

September will be a good Month

New Arcade Fire & New Danny Brown! 

Arcade Fire is being pretty secretive but we will be getting something on the 9th of September. More than likely a new album. 

Danny Brown's new album "old" is set to drop September 30th! 

The albums of 2013 have yet to excite.There has been a definite dry spell of New music, funneling from the minds, vocals, finger, etc... of artists this year. We have been fortunate enough to have a masterfully crafted follow up to Vampire Weekend's Contra in the form of "Vampire's of the Modern City", Baths album "Obsidian" and Charli XCX's first full length LP True Romance. A few other honorable mentions include: "Once I was an Eagle" by Laura Marling, "Acid Rap" by Chance the Rapper, and "Women" by Rhye.

 Sadly, Kanye's "Yezzus" was a bust. I don't care what pitchfork has to say. "Yezzus" was not good, especially competing as the follow up to Kanye's masterpiece "My Beautiful Dark Fantasy". Wavves "Afraid of Heights", although, a higher production value lacked unique, original inspiration. Best Coast's "The Only Place" was apathetically produced. The band traded it's signature lo-fi, surf-pop songs for somewhat depressing and commercialized, mass produced pop-rock. (Maybe Nathan Williams and Bethany Cosentino broke up? Possibly that is why both their albums were less than inspiring.)

 Despite, the disappointments of this year, September brings promises of new life. Hopefully September will bring us what we have been craving all year. The album that we can re-listen to over and over again. An album that sparks creativity, controversy, and most importantly something we can move too. 

The Based God will provide.
