Digital artist Daniel Voshart recreates the ‘real’ faces of Roman emperors thanks to machine learning. You can learn more about the process, discover more emperors or buy a poster here.

I honestly ADORE Roman history and classical history in general
Usually when you see a sword slung on sombody’s waist, the blade is on the opposite side of their swinging hand. However, that’s not the case for the Romans. Their fighting syle involves a shield called Scutum. The sheild would cover shoulder to shin and is used on the left arm. The right is used for the blade called Gladius. Another weapon that they carried are 2 Javalins calles Pila. During their marches after the reform of the Roman legion, legionares were made to carry their own things in a Sarcina which was basically their backpack with their tools to build pathways and camps. Before the reform, mules with carts were made to haul most things.
Who read Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus and then got OBSESSED with learning more about mythology which ended up with you loving history all together?
I’m looking at you @astoichistorian no shade bro...
This applies to Hamilton fans, Assassin’s creed fans, God of War fans, and COD WWII fans. Yall can’t escape my grasp.

A lot of people say that the Greeks fight un-organized due to people reading fictional books. I’m not bashing any books that have gotten the Greek fighting style historically wrong, I’m just stating a point. Greeks fight in a closed formation with sheilds overlapping each other. When Macedon came to power by King Philip, he made a new form of fighting but still used the idea of a closed formation with hoplites holding long spears. This was called a phalanx.

Socrates was a man who hated democracy. I understand why.
He compares society to a ship. Would you rather let normal people decide who the captain is or would you rather have experienced seafarers do it? The latter of course. Then why? Why would you let any person decide on who to run a country? He’s not saying that only a select few can vote. He’s saying the only people who have actually thought about it should be allowed a chance to vote.
I have a lot of thoughts about ancient history and I would like to talk to someone about them
Same here buddy
how to become a mummy:
1. learn hieroglyphs
2. learn more hieroglyphs
3. wait until your brains can no longer function normally

In 1974, the Egyptian authorities issued a passport to an ancient king, Ramesses II, 1279-1213 BCE, in order to be transported to France for restoration and preservation.

Do you agree?
“It never ceases to amaze me; we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion then our own.”
-Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius
Do you agree with Democracy? Democracy is great and all but of course it has it’s flaws. Do you or do you not agree with Socrates on his hatred of Democracy?
