Wow, Rachel, all of that sounds amazing. Seriously, I can’t… I can’t even form words as to how amazing that is. I’ve gone to a few open auditions already and my father was not too pleased about those. Meanwhile, my brother’s an actor and can do no wrong.

Being your dad’s client? I would not be opposed to that at all but can he even do that? I’m sure he has a lot of people who are considered more important than myself, but I would be incredibly grateful if he could help me out.

Come over on Sunday! We’ll set an extra place for brunch and we’ll have our usual early afternoon revue, which you’re more than welcome to take part in. Whether they consider it an unofficial audition is going to be up to them, of course, but it just might be enough to get your proverbial foot in the door. Even if he can’t take you on now, I’m sure he could at least provide you with some advice or other names to contact!

It’s ... sort of both, because it’s very formal, much like you’d expect from a ball, but the dancing is also absolutely required. We might need to rehearse that ahead of time, but the choreography is very simple, so I’m not too worried about you learning it in time.

Very different views and it doesn’t help that I’m not my father’s favorite person in the world. I would like to theatre and my father wants me to stick with the family business. Needless to say, an argument ensued. I’m not really seeing a way around this one, Rach.

As I suspected. Fortunately, you’re in luck, because I know exactly how to prove them wrong and ensure that you begin down the life path that you’re obviously destined for. 

The first step is very simple: you begin booking auditions! I have several websites bookmarked for open calls, but if you really want to impress your family and prove your dedication -- as well as your talent -- then you find a way into a closed one. And I’m sure my dad would be able to help you with that -- he would, of course, have to decide to take you on as a client, but I don’t see that being a problem for you. 

I can also begin passing your name on if I should find something that looks like it’s made for you. It’s a good thing that we can’t possibly take on the same roles, or I’d never be able to help you like this. Fortunately this is one way that I can assure that the talent I’m opposite is an even match for me!

I’m sorry, I think you might perhaps be on the wrong blog. My askbox is for questions about me, not about my peers -- lovely though many of them may be -- along with the occasional song request, which I am usually happy to oblige provided that it’s either part of the acknowledged Broadway canon or reached Top 40 status on the pop charts in the past fifteen years. 

Are you maybe looking for Gossip Girl? I can see how you might be confused since we do both generate a great deal of traffic. And if you’ll look you’ll see that she did post rankings of the Constance girls very recently! I think that’s where you’ll find the information you’re looking for. I caution you, though, not all that information is factual. I’m obviously much higher up than #10.

I know you’ve said that you don’t put that much stock in what she reports on, but she’s been known to post very true things, and she said that you were planning to volunteer as my escort for Cotillion -- which I would absolutely welcome if it happened to be true! -- but the way she phrased it made it sound as though I’d be a third rate joke choice, rather than someone that anyone would ever actually dream of choosing for themselves.

Don’t worry about it! I don’t mind helping people learn new things as long as they’re willing to admit when they’re wrong. 

Exactly. I’ve been visualizing myself giving my first Tony Awards speech since I was six years old, and it was made all the easier since I was able to actually attend the ceremony with my dads during my run as Young Cosette. It also helps on a more daily basis as well: I can visualize my choreography, and it makes it easier to put into practice what the correct steps are. I imagine that for you it would be much the same, only with sports visualizations instead. You’d see yourself winning the championship, and during your practices you could conceptualize the different steps to take to achieve individual goals. 

Generally it means that the theatre’s capacity is smaller, and the theatre itself is located anywhere in the city besides the proper theatre district. The shows are ... different. Experimental, usually, but that also means that there’s a stronger likelihood that I’ll be able to originate a role if the show should become successful enough to make the move to Broadway. It’s kind of like the minor leagues: you’re still a professional, but don’t garner nearly as much recognition. At least, if I understand the way that works correctly. 

I’ve checked my schedule, and it looks like I’ll absolutely be able to make your next game, so look for me in the stands -- but not so intently that you miss your goal! I know I can be distracting.

JANE: Rachel, if I hadn't stepped up to plan your Cotillion, you wouldn't be having one. The panel has been absolutely absent this semester, so if you want to finally step up, you should do it without the insinuation that I've missed anything.

JANE: We decided on [X Florist] and [Y Caterer]. They both come highly recommended.

JANE: This weekend will work for me. What other decisions are you wanting to make?

RACHEL: Excellent, thank you. I hope they're not actually going to insist on tacky themes -- but if Quinn helped you pick those, then we should be absolutely golden.

RACHEL: Which reminds me: one of the colors should be gold, of course, but I've narrowed it down to gold and red (elegant, but traditional) or gold and blue -- which I prefer, personally, but I know some girls will insist on roses and you know how difficult it is to get roses in April at all, let alone blue ones. I can contact the florist and ask if they can accommodate that.

RACHEL: Then again, it will be late May when we debut. Perhaps that won't be so bad.

RACHEL: If we're going to go with a theme then it should be one that absolutely cannot be contested for being too tacky. This isn't a junior high school dance; this is the most important night of some of these girls' lives. (Mine of course will involve a major award, but not everyone has those aspirations.)

RACHEL: Have your ideas ready. My driver's going to pick you up at 11, and we can have a light lunch to go over our ideas before the appointments I've made throughout today.

JANE: The reason they put juniors on the panel is so seniors don't have to stress about it.

JANE: The venue is down to three final choices; Quinn and I decided on the florist last week, as well as the caterer.

JANE: Would you like to help me pick out a decorator and color theme?

RACHEL: No offense, Jane, but you'll have next year to fully plan your own Cotillion -- when it's your turn to debut. You're on the panel so that you can assist us, not so that you can steal the opportunity to make the plans from us.

RACHEL: Wait -- Quinn's helping you? How did you get her to do that?

RACHEL: Never mind, you don't have to answer that. Of course I'd love to pick out a decorator. I'll make a shortlist and contact you with the names. We can begin making appointments to meet with them this weekend; since we're already short on time and you and Quinn made other decisions without the aid of the panel, surely we can make some of other ones on our own.

RACHEL: Besides, not everyone has the same vision that I do. Let me know which florist and caterer you decided on and I'll do some research to fill in any of the gaps you may not have picked up on.

RACHEL: Jane, I'm so sorry to bother you when I'm sure you're extremely busy, but these past few months have slipped away from me and I hadn't realized that we have only 42 days until Cotillion and we have nothing finalized!

Well. I’m not exactly a fan, but I do think you’re pretty rad. And I’d talk to you anytime, Rachel.  I wouldn’t really call you medium though. You’re definitely a small. You’re super short.

Tea’s never really been my thing. But if you think it would help with stress, I guess I could give it a shot? Improving my focus could be good for me. I think. Practices have been going well. We look really good this year. I’m kinda nervous about graduating and leaving the team forever and stuff. How’s uh… You sing and like dance and stuff, right? How’s that going?

Medium as in a method of communication, and the singular form of media, not the size, but ... if I did mean the size, you wouldn’t be wrong. 

Tea, exercise, visualization -- all of it can help you with focusing. I recommend ginger with lemon or orange in the morning and a chamomile/lavender blend in the evening. I can bring some of both to school, and I promise they don’t taste like the tea that you’re used to, especially if you add a little honey. 

I’m glad! I’d like to make it to a game one of these days, as long as it doesn’t interfere with my audition schedule. Thank you for asking about that, by the way! It’s going very well; I’ve booked a handful of auditions already, and while they’re only off-Broadway so far, I’m still fortunate to have booked them at all.
