Hey guys, sign my guestbook. // Please do not repost nor remove captions.
Yup.
Cellulite is a female secondary sex characteristic and should be celebrated as a rite of womanhood, not despised or eradicated.
it’s really a secondary sex characteristic?!
It is. It has to do with the way our bodies network fat. Female bodies create sort of a mesh network to support fat (female bodies are MUCH more hardy in times of stress) and it can present as delightfully lumpy. More than 90% of women have visible cellulite, but all women store fat in this manner.
why did no one tell me this?!
You know why :/
Spread this. I only just started to see mine and I started to freak out a bit. More people should/need to know about this
Here’s an illustration of the aforementioned difference in fat storage.
Men’s lattice pattern collagen threads holds subcutaneous fat in a way that, when the skin expands because of the fat storage, it expands evenly. Women’s “pockets” expand unevenly when we accumulate fat, creating that orange peel effect. Our storage pattern means we can healthily store more fat than men. Like a woman with 25% body fat is average, a man with 25% body fat is chubby. Because of that, like OP said, women are hardier in times of stress or famine. It’s also one of the reasons why our bodies can survive pregnancy, which is a massive energy demand on our system.
And there’s absolutely NO “treatment” for cellulite that will work. They are all bullshit designed to separate you from your hard-earned cash. It’s a secondary sex characteristic, it’s perfectly normal and it’s not going away no matter what you do. Like I’m very lean myself and I work out 5~6 times a week, and I still have cellulite. Someone giving a woman shit for having cellulite is akin to giving her shit for having skin. It’s just a mixture of misogyny and corporate greed.
Love your lumpy skin, ladies. It means you are a badass surviving machine shaped by millenia of evolution.
I did not know this, and I pride myself on knowing shit like this.
celebrate the cellulite
it’s a Cellulation!
if you’ve been trained to to dislike yourself for enjoying anything due to years of being told you’re annoying clap your hands 👏👏👏
if I listed out every particular instance that was met with negativity enough for me to stop feeling comfortable talking about it, this comic would be like 50 panels.

Derailing conversations about things you dont relate to is a form of microaggression. Your attempts at distracting show your discomfort. Try maybe talking less?
Ever wonder how big wolves are and why running from them is a really bad idea?
This had me so fucked up the first time I worked at the zoo. Because honestly they just look like big German-Huskies when they’re not wild. They look like big puppies. And then… they get close to you… And it’s suddenly kinda fucking terrifying. Like “oh this is the animal that used to scare people shitless.” “This is the animal that used to run through nightmares and poems so much.” And you suddenly fucking get it. As cool as these animals are far away, as important as the animals are in their natural environment, as much as we need them to survive… they’re still pretty fucking terrifying
can you believe these things became our friends
And then people domesticated them and now sleep with them in their beds.
We’re not a species meant to last
I’d actually argue the opposite!
We took these super efficient killing machines and befriended them and now they love and protect us as much as we (ideally) love and protect them
Cats basically domesticated themselves so that they could share in our food, medical care, and affection
In urban spaces, prey species know that there’s a higher likelihood that humans will help you if you’re stuck or injured than them killing or maiming you
It’s just, over time we see trends of our species overcoming environmental pressures that would and do lead to extinction in other species by sharing and forming close bonds with other sentient organisms and just kinda… aggressively community-bonding our way out of it?
For a long time there’s been this pervading idea that we, as a species, are just innately violent and terrible and “sinful” and it’s been that violence that let us survive (see the hunting hypothesis of human evolution). But that’s not what we see
We are, at our core, a species that looks into the face of something other, and thinks “I wonder if they want to be friends?” so long as the individual isn’t actively trying to kill us. Sure, tons of people do awful things every day, but for every terrible act or thought on this Earth, there are a dozen acts of kindness that people do casually for complete strangers
So yeah. We looked at these massive fluffy monsters with the sharp claws and crushing jaws rooting in our garbage just beyond the campfire and thought, the way no other species before or after us has done to the same extent; “They look friend-shaped!”
And they were. And that is how we got to be the dominant species on this planet
“They look friend-shaped!”
know what’s wild? that the trope of like “my father always wanted a son so he treated me, his daughter, like a boy” is so popular and like lowkey loved, but if you ever saw a mother who talked about how much she wanted a daughter instead of a son, or if she treated her son like a girl, like??? people would think she’s awful and that poor boy??
damn wonder why that is 😒
i was high af when i wrote this but it’s still true
The latter is literally the plot of some horror movies.
being socialized female is easily recognized as abuse the moment it’s done to a male child
reblogging for that last comment jfc
Ernest Hemingway would have died rather than have syntax. Or semicolons. I use a whole lot of half-assed semicolons; there was one of them just now; that was a semicolon after “semicolons,” and another one after “now.” And another thing. Ernest Hemingway would have died rather than get old. And he did. He shot himself. A short sentence. Anything rather than a long sentence, a life sentence. Death sentences are short and very, very manly. Life sentences aren’t. They go on and on, all full of syntax and qualifying clauses and confusing references and getting old. And that brings up the real proof of what a mess I have made of being a man.

Minimum wage: $7.25
$7.25 x 40 hour full time work week: $290
$290 x 4 weeks per month: $1,160
In every Southern state (didn’t have time to look at the rest of the country) you can find some sort of studio apartment for around $500 per month, sometimes less than that. Why bother lying about something so easily disproven?
Because Bernie Sanders supporters aren’t going to fact check him, and they’ll ignore any contrary evidence that’s presented to them anyways.
Things like this really tick me off and It’s not political or anything but it’s the fact that you think all that money is there. Here’s what I mean;
That weekly check comes to, according to you, 290. Most places DO NOT pay for your half hour lunch that is required by law. So your beginning number was wrong. $7.25 x 7.5 hours a day x 5 days a week only gets you $271.88. Most people in America get paid bi-weekly, so let’s double it to get the budget. $543.75. That’s GROSS, not NET. Out of that comes anywhere between 10% and 15% taxes depending on state so we’ll low ball it at 10%. Automatically down to $489.38 a pay check. Now health insurance. Usually anywhere from 70-100 a pay check for the cheapest plans. Again, we’ll low ball and go $70. So now we have $419.39 a paycheck. x 2 = $839.
Eight hundred thirty nine dollars. A MONTH.
But again, you seem to think that’s fair. So let’s proceed. You say rent is $500? Okay. This person now has $339 left to buy groceries for the whole month, pay utilities, car payment, car insurance, and gas money to get to work.
Those are the bare needs. You have to eat. You have to pay for heat, water, garbage removal, gas and or electricity because apartments do not always include things and rarely all of the above. Most cities in America do not have public transportation. Mine doesn’t despite the fact that our population is over 15,000 people, not counting a taxi. If you have a car, you have to pay that. If you have a car, legally you have to have car insurance. You have to pay that. You have to have gas in that car to get to work to make that money.
Now if you can tell me you can get all of that out of $339 you’re lying.
You are so focused on rent that you aren’t thinking about everything else people have to pay for. Rent was an example. This is a breakdown of the budget you gave me and it’s not possible to live off that in 2017 America.
And BECAUSE this person makes over $800 a month, they probably won’t qualify for financial aid or food stamps. $800 is the line in my state where they won’t help you. No food stamps, financial aid, or government housing if you make more than $800 a month.
Why does it bother you that people deserve to live above the poverty line?
Also the federal definition of affordability is 30% of your gross income. You may be able to afford rent but it takes up such a large portion of your budget you become food unstable. And if you lose just one check you become housing unstable.
Also, also: this doesn't include children. They're often looking at the affordability of a 2 bedroom market rate apartment, so that the kids have their own space (a legal requirement). Yeah, that's not happening on minimum wage.
“There’s a cure?!” asked the girl that kills everything she touches. “Hey shut up we’re perf” replied the girl that makes clouds.
For real though. Storm has stopped an entire tsunami before. “Makes clouds my ass” she can conjure lightning and tornadoes and is revered as a god in her tribe. She literally changes atmospheric pressure and that’s how she flies. So fuck you. Storm is flawless.
I think you missed the part where the GIRL WHO KILLS EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHES wants to NOT KILL EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHES and everyone dismisses her incredible misfortune just because the lady who is the AVATAR OF THE STORM won the fucking SUPERPOWER LOTTERY
“Finally, a cure for my chainsaw hands!” decreed Chainsaw-Hands Joe.
“There is no cure,” said Johnny Five-Dicks. “There’s nothing wrong with us.”
The last comment literally always cracks me up
“There’s a cure?” asked the woman who is probably desperately touch-starved and perpetually afraid of being with people due to her unfortunate power
“Don’t say that like it’s a good thing” replied the woman who is literally worshipped for her fortunate power
“Hey, given she benefits from her power while Rogue suffers from hers, it’s a bit rich for her to act as though Rogue is being insensitive for calling it a cure” observed the OP
“Let me reiterate exactly how awesome Storm’s superpower is and how she’s benefitted from it, thus essentially proving your point even as I try to derail it” says the derailer
Like can we talk about how this is a real thing in Disability discourse and communities? Because some people desperately want to not be disabled anymore and they have super valid points and some people are super strong in their opinion that their disability is not a bad thing and society needs to accept them as-is and their points are super valid and this often leads to negativity and misunderstandings within the very diverse disability communities.
So, if people (particularly women) can remain in contact with their children while also working... They stay in their jobs? I am so surprised! #sarcasm On the other hand, I'm not sure that we want to tie childcare to jobs? It hasn't worked so well with healthcare, as companies don't want to take on the "externality" of keeping their employees alive. But on the other other hand, we need childcare because of employment/work... I always liked the idea of government subsidized childcare centers... Much to think about here.
Crib notes: 1. What happened? 2. How are you feeling? 3. What have you learned? 4. What can you do differently next time? 5. How do you feel now?
This is important. I think the author's conclusions that she had a "dangerously well developed sense of self" and that motherhood destroys sense of self is far too self-blame centric when there's another far more pointed conclusion... That our society and our medical institutions need to change.
You’ll have a good week, I promise

I feel like this is pretty much the most accurate way to describe life as an adult.
If you have trouble getting things done because of your mental health problems
I figured something out! If you’re like me and have executive dysfunction, get easily overwhelmed or exhausted, have short-term memory problems, etc., prioritizing can really help. Most people know that, but recently I ran into a problem while trying to pack up to move– how do I even prioritize?
Here’s a really simple method to help you get things done: make a list of the three most important things you have to do that day. Since I find myself unable to do a lot of stuff in a single day, I include appointments and stuff like that, but the choice is up to you– you can just stick to self-guided tasks if you want.
So, for example, your list might look like this:
1. Work shift: 8am-3pm 2. Get prescription filled 3. Essay due tomorrow
Ordinarily, I’d remind people that they can do things however works for them, but in this case I’m going to emphasize that choosing three tasks, and only three tasks, is really important. If you let fourth and fifth things sneak in, the whole system gets thrown off. And, if you’re like me, you’ll probably get overwhelmed and panic and then never get anything done anyway. (Grr.) Also, if you’re easily tired out, you’ll probably be more forgiving if you can’t get more than three tasks done.
That said, it’s okay to make OTHER lists of three as well, like a “secondary importance” list, or to break down your three tasks into three smaller tasks. Depending on your personality and circumstances, things like “going to work” might be easy, and it’s not stressful to write it down as one task. For other people, “going to work” might involve more self-direction, so they might need a separate priority list just for work.
For example, the list above might end up looking like this:
MOST IMPORTANT: 1. Work shift: 8am-3pm a. Write letter b. Complete spreadsheet c. Speak with Kyle 2. Get prescription filled 3. Essay due tomorrow
SECONDARY IMPORTANCE: 1. Go to the bank 2. Buy mom a birthday present 3. Worksheet assignment
There are a couple of ways to keep these lists. For some, a pencil and paper will do just fine, and they can just make the list for the day when they wake up. Young people, like me and probably you, are more likely to be glued to their phones and computers. I don’t really have a recommendation for apps, but I’m using ToDoist and it is pretty good for this. It syncs between your computer and your phone, and you can mark things by priority. It does users an additional favor by sorting tasks by due date, so you know what’s due today, and what will be due within the week. However, I find that tasks without a set due date seem to get lost in the shuffle, and I haven’t really found a solution.
I hope this helps you as much as it helps me!
It really works!
I was thinking today how some health food fads are similar to some education fads
like
there are people whose guts can’t handle gluten, so if they eat food with gluten in it they feel really sick and if they don’t they are healthier
and there are people perfectly capable of digesting gluten who think that means if they don’t eat gluten they will be healthier
but their starting point is healthy (from a guts point of view at least) and they are trying to get some kind of extra health from something that only helps people who have got a health problem to start with
and
when an intervention is identified that helps kids who are behind in school, whether because they have a learning disability or they’ve missed a lot of days due to illness or other disruptions or they’ve had Life Problems that interfered with paying attention in class, to catch up to what’s expected of their age group
there are competitive parents whose children have none of those obstacles to their success who want them to have that intervention too because they think, “If it makes a kid who’s failing pass, it will make my kid, who’s passing, excel!”
and it’s not how it works
IT’S NOT A 1UP
a thing that makes up a deficit for people who have got a deficit doesn’t automatically confer a bonus on people who don’t have a deficit to begin with
MAYBE YOUR GUTS AND YOUR KIDS ARE JUST AVERAGE AND DOING THEIR BEST WITH WHAT THEY’VE GOT AND THAT’S OKAY
anyway I blame neoliberalism
