danny wirtz called him as soon as free agency opened, it was an emotional call & "kyle has been awesome"
says it was cool to see the us hockey team win gold, especially larkin and the hughes brothers and they were texting and calling him afterwards

his dad would have been happy to see him play for the sabres but actually wanted him to go to chicago: "he's got a good life here, he knows all the security guys at the united center", says his dad didn't go to as many games in detroit because he wasn't as comfortable
about being a veteran on the hawks: "i want these guys to treat me like a teammate, i wanna be friends with these guys", wants to be yelled at if he turns the puck over lol
skated with a lot of the guys before, feels like he knows them well
has been trying to develop some chemistry with frank nazar when they skated together & calls him "frankie"

he' doesn't have superstitions, just sticks to his routines

his longevity comes from his love of the game, thinks he can still play after his 2-year contract, is excited to have a 2-year deal
“I was pretty fired up. You kind of hear it could happen and you're hearing Chicago or Buffalo or whatever and you're just kind of praying that he joins us. Probably everyone on the team texted every other person on the team how fired up they were and just to have someone like that, obviously the legacy portion of it but just him as a player as well, he's going to add a lot to us. We're all thrilled for sure."
