“Who’s that?” Hearing the knock on his door, Danny got up from his computer and lumbered across his little apartment, opening the door with a beaming grin. “Hettie! I sure am glad to see you!”
Smiling widely to her younger, taller brother as she stood on the front step. Eagerly, Heather stepped forward, moving up onto her toes slightly to wind an arm around the Americans shoulders, handing him the box of chocolate chip cookies with the other. “Hey Danny. I’ve missed you! Hope you haven’t been working too hard.”
"Ohh, you brought cookies," Danny moaned, swinging Heather around with just a hand to her waist. "You're an angel. And I've been working, you know I ain't never gonna stop working. Only thing I'm working too hard at is this diet!" A pause, and he looked to the cookies he'd placed on the kitchen counter. "A diet that says... no cookies. Aw, but they look so good..."

you are my best friend and the love of my life
:(
Wow, girls! Sure do love ‘em.
“Motivator works,” Bryce nodded, smile bright across his face as he drove down the road, “Something of a personal trainer, ey? It’ll be a fun time, yeah? Or- well, I’ll make it fun for ya. Only the best food, okay? I promise. I’ll make everything.”
"Yeah- yeah, fun! With my best friend!” With a beaming smile, Danny bounced in his seat, smacking the door so hard he hurt his hand. “Ow- whoops. Am I gonna lift weights? Go running and stuff? We can run together! This is gonna be great.” Smiling across at Bryce, Danny tipped his head to the side, something almost wistful in his eyes. “Do you remember me before... before I got like this?”
The pair kept eye locked for what seemed like minutes, though only about one and a half had pasted before Bryce slowly edged his way out of his hiding place. He simply couldn’t help himself; or the excitement that was evident upon his face. He looked so bewildered by all that was in front of him; especially the thing that had shattered into a thousand small pieces on the ground.
Moving across to where the other stood behind the table, Bryce didn’t let his eyes leave the other’s body; watching for any fast movement that might be seen as threatening. But he was still. Completely mesmerised, it seemed. Slowly, cautiously, he turned his eyes to the glass and wet grass. Cocking his head to the side, he couldn’t help himself. Intrigued, the man reached out, callously pressing a hand into the shards, only to have them stick into his skin.
Pulling away, as shock took hold of his features, the man shook his hand, trying to get the shards off; even going as far as the run his hand over the grass once more; trying to brush them off only to push the small pieces further into his skin. Groaning in pain, the wild man went into panic mode, stumbling around on all fours, effectively knocking over the table with the many beakers, glasses and samples in his moment of fear.
It wasn’t long before the spell was broken, Daniel’s stupor broken as the wild man reached for the broken glass. “Wait--!” He stepped forwards, then stumbled back, crying out as his equipment went flying. Luckily for him, he was clear of the shattering glass, but his attention was on the wild man.
“Hey, hey, calm down,” he called out, crouching down so as not to intimidate the man. Slowly, he shuffled over, careful not to cut himself. The American plucked a pair of tweezers from the grass and held out a hand, a bright smile sent the wild man’s way. “Here, I can help.”

The straw of his own coca cola already between his lips, Danny sat beside his friend, bright blues scanning the crowd. “That girl has pink streaks in her hair! It’s pretty. She looks… soft. D'you think she’d like me?”
Eyes shifting between Dan’s face and the girl he had pointed at, Bryce was soon smiling. “So you like small girls, ey? Look at those heels. Surprised she hasn’t twisted an ankle.” He chuckled, taking a long swig back from his beet before getting to his feet. “Wanna go talk to her?”
“Talk to her?” It was as though he’d forgotten that asking a girl out involved talking to her. “Oh- I, um, I guess so. Should I just- just go up and say hi? I’ll- I’ll offer to buy her a drink, and then, um... tell her I like her dress? Is that a good start?”
“Well, lucky we met then, huh?” He smiled, eating a few more fries before turning to his own burger. Trying to eat quickly, he was soon laughing, trying to hold everything back before speaking. “Serbia. Yeah, my dad and I moved over when I was a kid.” He spoke with a nod, “And you? Your accent screams south but– what state?”
“Yeah, real lucky!” Danny wolfed his own meal down, but was careful to swallow before he spoke again. He was always polite, after all, even when food was involved. “Serbia! That’s super cool! Oh, I’m from Texas. Bet it’s real different to Serbia! And different again in Washington. But I love Washington, don’t you? Seattle’s great! And my parents don’t like it here, haha, so I get all my own space!”
“No pop,” He repeated, small smirk playing at his lips, “No juice. Well, I’ll choose the juices, but it’ll be nothing you like, I’m sure. It’s gonna be big breakfast, medium lunch, small dinner. No dessert. No soda. We’re gonna diet like there’s no tomorrow!” He beamed, before- “Hey, you’re not doing this for me, Daniel. Or anyone else. You gotta do this for yourself, you know. ‘Else you’re not gonna be motivated enough.”
“Yeah- yeah, you’re right! I’m doing it for me,” Danny beamed, wandering inside after Bryce and plonking down at the kitchen table. “But you’re my motivator! And my conscience. I’ve tried a lotta diets, Bry, this ain’t gonna be easy. But I’ve never had someone help me with it. You really are the best!”
“Sure you are! It’s just about portions and- well, no seconds, Danny Boy.” He stated, flicking his hat back to get a better glance of the other’s face. “You gonna have to trust me though. No soda either, Dan.”
“No pop?” With a slight pout, Danny nodded reluctantly, silently mourning the loss of his favourite beverages. “How about juice? Can I have juice? Aw, I bet there’s no dessert, either. Ain’t nobody else I’d do this with, you know,” he said suddenly, big blue eyes blinking up at Bryce. “Nobody.”
Bryce drove the whole way home in silence, eating his burger with his free hand and throwing the paper into the backseat. When they finally made it home, he smiled across to Danny, sipping from his drink as he got out of the car. “You know, I’m already thinkin’ about dinner. I’m thinking plumb sauce and lamb tonight.”
“Oh, plum sauce,” Danny groaned, leaning against the car door once he’d hopped out and shut it. “I love plum sauce.” But it didn’t take long for him to glance down at his protruding stomach, cheeks heating up again. “I ain’t gonna lose any weight around here, not with your cooking.”
