REGISTRATION: D-AHIF “Lübeck” TYPE: Airbus A340-642 TYPE AGE: 14 Years AIRLINES: Lufthansa OPERATORS: Lufthansa June 2004 to Current EDDM-KCLT THOUGHTS: For the longest time, CLT was serviced by Lufthansa’s A340s until they made the switch to A330s on revenue service. As of late, the A340s have made returns sporadically throughout the month but it is still mostly a A330 route. Recently I was made aware of the fact that Lufthansa plans to service the Charlotte airport with their new A350s which is an exciting piece of news for the local planespotters.

THOUGHTS: After a long cat and mouse game of being able to see the Antonov here in Charlotte but never watch it land or take off, I finally got a chance to see it in all it’s glory. So a pretty fitting first post for my blog then to post a personal triumph for myself. I’ve heard it said that for an aircraft of this size, it handles remarkably well. Charlotte seems to be equipped with the proper hardstands to withstand the heat generated from the APUs on board and the overall weight of the Condor. This big girl can weigh up to 890,000 lbs. She's a well traveled bird, having visited over 750+ airports in over 100 countries. Hopefully one day we will see the return of the ever elusive AN-225.
