this is a little postmodern thing i’ve been dreaming of making for quite some time – because such a noble face as alan’s seems almost literally made to live and breathe in a pre-raphaelite painting – yet something inside kept telling me i wasn’t skillful enough. truly glad i finally tried, and also, for the first time in a long while, partly used gouache. as you can see, i changed some details and the style itself, because of course it would have been boring to create a complete copy; but the overall composition/idea was taken from edward robert hughes’ night (noc) [1912]. i think it was worth it. in any case, it was something new and exciting. 💫
