Feelin’ good today. Feeling real good.
I don't know, it's a little cold for my tastes.
Well, Toby’s got really great taste. Which is why he won’t touch you.
And the key phrase here: my boyfriend.
Until he gets bored. They always get bored.
You know, Ashley, that reminds me. I forgot to give you a holiday gift. It should be delivered to you any day now.
Got it already, sweetheart. I'll let you know when your boyfriend comes over to help me find the perfect place for it.
The doctors say I can leave on Monday morning, provided there aren’t any complications like me getting shot again. So I’m pretty sure we’ll be okay.
Well, we are basically unable to function at ACN without you there to tell us what Kimmy K is doing, so please hurry back.
Hospital Coffee is Horrible || Ashley and Toby
For a second Toby actually felt bad for Ashley, for things people were saying about her, for what he’d thought of her before even meeting her, but then she kissed him.
I fucking kid you not.
In the hospital, in front of the room where his pregnant girlfriend lay waiting, Ashley kissed him.
Toby had never jumped back so quickly in his life.
"Woah. No. Way out of lin…No." He furrowed his brows and wished he’d never gotten up to go pee in the first place.
He jerked back and she nearly stifled a laugh. "Oh, that's precious you're really as nice a guy as you look...that's sweet. It'll fade eventually, but cute for now." She glanced quickly back inside the room and then shrugged, "Call me when you come around," she offered simply before stepping around him and resuming her quest to find Reese.
Hospital Coffee is Horrible || Ashley and Toby
He remembered briefly, Erica mentioning something about the brunette that stood before him but she, honestly, seemed perfectly harmless. Toby smiled as she sipped and took a swig of what remained in his own coffee cup, following her action. She seemed nice…helpful. There had been some gossip around the office but Toby couldn’t see why. He allowed a dry chuckle as she talked about him staying by Erica’s bedside and matched a furrow of his brown with a small grin. “You gave me coffee. That helped plenty, and hey, I should be asking you if there’s anything I can get you.” He nodded at her wrist and looked to the room where Erica was feeling guilty for not being at her bedside right then and there.
Ashley flashed him a smile and glanced at her wrist and shrugged. "Oh, this? I...just got shoved around a bit, I'll be fine. I guess I'm still a little shaken up about the whole incident though." A glance into the hospital room where Erica was and she just couldn't help the slightly wicked thought that passed through her mind. She stepped in closer to Toby, reaching to pick an imaginary piece of lint off of his shoulder. "It's just scary when you think about how quickly things can change and that there's still so much you want to see and do and try, you know?"
Without much warning, she leaned up and pressed her lips against his. She wondered briefly and hoped, for the sake of fun, that Travers had a good view.
Hospital Coffee is Horrible || Ashley and Toby
As much as he hated leaving, he really needed to pee. Like, about to pee on the floor as if he was one of those Sims who had no say in their life. Toby would have much rather preferred to never leave Erica’s side but duty called and with a kiss of her forehead he ran out with a light jog, waiving to familiar faces in the halls and sighed with relief in the bathroom. Wash of the hands, Toby could see himself paranoid of germs in the future, baby in his hands. Or maybe it was just the hospital talking. He splashed water on his face and rolled head, stretching neck. Light slaps of the face before he was back out in the hall and on his way to the room. He was stopped by the door, arms stretched out against the wall and head bowed. Several deep breaths and he was ready to go back in though he wasn’t sure he’d ever stop worrying about Erica.
He was about to take a step when he was interrupted by a semi familiar face. “Uh. Okay. Thank you, I guess?” He swigged the coffee with intent and gave a shake of his head at the bitter taste.
Ashley looked him over again. Prior to arriving at ACN for her new job, she'd made a quick phone call to an old friend - the man who's position she was taking over. They'd reminisced about old times and he gave her stories about a few co-workers, none that he seemed to dislike more than Erica Travers. And so Ashley had done the only responsible thing and taken off with the disliking of the blonde bombshell where her predecessor left off. At first, teasing her about her E.P. was all in sport. But there was something attractive about him - not in the conventional way she often went for but in that doe-eyed Bambi way that just made her want to corrupt something.
"Of course, a little camaraderie amongst co-workers," she looked at him with a grin before taking a sip of her drink. She tilted her head at him. "And if there's anything else I can do to help, let me know. I think it's really nice that you've been here this whole time with your anchor," she said with a nod. "I mean, damn, I know I'm new but I hardly doubt mine would for me. What's a girl got to do to get an E.P like you?"
Hospital Coffee is Horrible || Ashley and Toby
Ashley was absolutely livid when a messenger passed her a large envelope containing her "new" contract. Probationary period? Half of ACN's staff was in the hospital or waiting on someone in the hospital and they were suddenly going to put her on a probationary period? It made zero sense, especially since she'd already started. But then her eyes gleaned a provision. ...satisfactory ratings as judged by Atlantis Cable News's Senior Marketing Director, Colton W. Avett.
"That son of a bitch," she scowled. She had every intention of finding Reese Lansing at the hospital and going over Colt's head, but she was stopped along the way. Someone who'd treated her injuries wanted to check in on her. Afterwards, she went off in search of coffee, getting two cups - one for her and one for Reese. No harm in trying to endear herself to the boss, right? Especially when his closest friend hated her so much.
She'd nearly forgotten that so many people from work would be at the hospital and spotted one of them that caused her brows to lift with interest. She approached Toby Bergen with a gentle smile and offered out the cup of coffee she'd originally purchased for Reese. "Look like you could use this. I know it's hospital coffee, but I promise to sneak you some of the good stuff from Starbucks some other time."
This Is How It Works, It Feels A Little Worse
Ashley had spent the majority of the holidays drunk. Her husband's family had gotten her daughter for the holidays, so she spent it alone, wallowing in her Upper West Side apartment with a Central Park view that she'd maintained in the separation.
When shots rang out, she hit the ground and could only think of seeing her daughter's face again.
Sophie is the single greatest thing she's ever done with her life, the only good thing, really. In the shuffle, she was thrown down the stairs, injured - but nothing serious. She met Dean's eyes on her way out of the building but doesn't approach him. She watched in horror as her ex-fiance is rolled out of the building on a stretcher. She allowed herself to be treated on the scene, but nothing else. There's a sprained wrist, a few bruises, nothing that is an emergency or life threatening. The first responders have better things to do than tend to her, she told them.
She and Leona nearly came to blows when she arrives at the hospital, but she was able to enter his room briefly. She did not apologize, or promise him that she would be a better person - because she cannot keep that promise. Their relationship was toxic, and ended when it should have as unpleasantly as it was. She does admit, despite the fact that he cannot hear her, that he is a stronger man than she ever gave him credit for.
Later, she set the clocks forward by a few hours and told her daughter it was New Years so the little girl wouldn't stay up too late and tucked her in by eight o'clock under the guise of it being after midnight. She poured herself a glass of scotch and watched the ball drop. Her phone rang.
Dean.
Ignore.
Happy New Year, she thought, raising her glass to an empty room.
Ah. Well, welcome to the family…or whatever the welcome speech is. I’m not in the welcoming committee…I wonder if there is a welcoming committee…
I'm sure you're perfectly capable of making a girl feel welcome.
You are not a face I recognize, granted I’ve only been working here a month.
I’m Toby. Bergen.
I'm a fairly new face. I'm Ashley, the new Right Now anchor.
Really? I’m more of a morning kinda guy. I like my sleep.
To each their own, I suppose.
A producers work is never done
Just when I thought I could get some sleep. I remembered I had so much left to do.
I find I bang out some of my best work late at night.
We’re not…I mean we had a…Yes, I would prefer that, thank you.
Oh, sweetheart, it wasn't an offer. I was just curious as to how much more fun this was going to become based on your discomfort.
The answer? Really fun.
We’ve been working really hard to incorporate meaningful stories into our broadcasts. And he’s what? stay away from Toby Bergen is my Executive Producer.
Meaningful broadcasts on Khloe Kardashian's divorce, I'm sure that's some hard-hitting journalism.
Oh, sweetie. Are you and he a thing? Would you prefer I stayed away from him?
I…you’re right. Sorry.
It's fine, Barbie. Aren't you the anchor for the crappy gossip show with the yummy looking EP?
Christmas from the office. Thrilling.
Could be worse, you could be listening to some mopey little blonde continuously remind everyone that they're spending Christmas in the office.
