Anyone who knows me knows I’m typically a fairly stoic person... With that being said, @eddievanhalen is one of the only people who has ever successfully moved me to tears with a live musical performance. His level of mastery of the electric guitar as an instrument is unparalleled and music as it exists today wouldn’t be the same without his contributions to it as an art form. I weep once again upon hearing of his passing... #fbf to our gig in Köln back in February... Shortly after this picture was taken, I was behind our merch table with @dan.brooklyn talking to the crowd when a heavily tattooed man approached me, smiled and shook my hand and then said something in German. Before I could say anything back about my lack of Deutsche linguistic ability, he disappeared into the crowd and reappeared a moment later carrying a gin and tonic which he then offered to me. Besides not being a big fan of gin, I make it a habit of not accepting drinks from people I don’t know at gigs for obvious reasons. I politely declined but the man kept insisting that I drink it. _ To humor him I took a tiny swig without swallowing, and then handed it back to him. He then tossed the entire drink all over me, drenching my stage clothes and all of the merchandise on the table below. I kept my cool and backed up as far away from him as I could manage, and he began to shout “Are you real or fake bro?!” while giving me the death stare. At this point I sized him up and noticed his rolled up skinny jeans that revealed his straight (white) laced boots, red plaid shirt and suspenders, Nordic/runic tattoos adorning his hands and face, and his lack of hair. It was at this point I realized I was dealing with a national socialist who had incorrectly identified me as one of them, probably due to a combination of my fair skin, blonde hair, blue eyes and the Mjolnir around my neck that I tend to wear at gigs. _ I told the guy to get out or that I would have him taken out. Dan stepped in and tried to diffuse the situation, but the man then proceeded to threaten him physically. It was then that security was called and he was taken outside and given a talking to before being let back in. He spent the rest of the evening getting progressively more drunk until he finally ended his evening by passing out on the bar and getting carried out. Needless to say, we were all glad to see him go. _ To anyone reading this who naively thinks racist right wing fascism is a thing of the past, think again.
