notes: what if... red's spawn location is the oceanview motel and that's where they meet? jesse keeps catching glimpses of a blood soaked woman disappearing into doors. it turns out red is a parautilitarian who went mad fighting an entity that tried to claim her.

remedyverse things = the dreamer trilogy equivalent

places of power = sentient "forests" lindenmere and cabeswater. like the oldest house, ley lines also run through those locations. ronan and his friends' exploration of cabeswater reminds me a lot of jesse and dylan's exploration of the slidescapes. henrietta awe? 🫢

" it was a forest, or rather, it was a thing that was forest-shaped for now. ronan had an idea that it had existed somewhere else for a very long time, and only now whispered its way into the world this time in the shape of a forest. "

parautilitarians / artists at cauldron lake = dreamers. people with the ability to bring objects or creatures they dream about into reality. some are so powerful they can rewrite reality itself.

altered items / power objects = dreamed objects and creatures. ronan's invisible car… a painting that always makes you dream of the ocean… a toaster that is always warm to the touch, even when it's unplugged… a deer-sized cat with human hands… lots of things that abide by dream logic and can kill you.

fbc = the moderators. a secret intergovernmental entity whose goal is to exterminate dreamers and dream creations.

paranatural entities = eldritch entities like the greywaren and whatever lindenmere/bryde was.

alan and scratch = ronan has the ability to make fiction and dreams real. he is alan, and bryde is very much his "dark" doppelgänger scratch.

dylan and ronan = bald. both have an older sibling who's worried sick about their safety. supernatural comas. powerful. dreams that feel real and are real. both were almost killed because people were afraid of what they could do.

dark presence / the hiss = the lace, an entity of darkness that wants to come into the world to destroy it. nightwash is also very dark place-y. ronan, who "loves to dream of light", fights them. visionaries are a little hiss-like. their visions produce a sound that kills everyone close enough to hear.

she hates bryde's tone. she's heard it countless times from countless people she can barely remember the faces of. the tone people use with little girls who behave strangely, with teenagers hastily labeled as crazy, with women working night shifts and checking out of motels every three weeks. it's not pity, but if it was, maybe that would be better. a staggering amount of jesse's life has been defined by things she has no say in, and people who wouldn't care what she said anyways.

❛ you think you could have done a better job then, huh? ❜ snapping at someone she's trying to ally with is hardly smart, but it's been seven years of being up to her ears in hiss chanting. there's only so much undermining of her position jesse will tolerate when bryde doesn't even know half the story. this isn't a balanced meeting either; they stand in a place between sleeping and waking, and jesse is utter shit at dreamwalking. she stomps towards him in the inky void, ripples spreading out from underfoot like the surface of a lake. stabbing an index finger at his chest, ❛ i don't care what you think of the bureau, or me, or any of it. right now, i am telling you that something worse than you can imagine is coming, and you do not want to meet it. ❜

" his words came slow and sure. no ego. no arrogance. just a man who understood precisely what he was. he only wanted her to understand too. she must know that he was different. not special. ( not any more than she was. ) different. yes, of course he could have done better. deep inside, she must know that. she was smart enough to realise that. she wouldn't have made it this far otherwise.

he paid no mind to the finger at his chest. " it doesn't matter what either of us thinks, does it? i wasn't there. " hawkish eyes grew somber with regret. " you were. it was you. you kept the oldest house from ruin. i'm sorry i wasn't there to help. i wish we had met sooner. " he had been busy, pulled from one paranormal calamity to another ever since the fbc motherhouse went dark. he wondered if she knew about bright falls and the dark thing deep under the blue ridge mountains that ate dreams and others of their ilk. did she know of the boy with sad eyes and holes in the finnish sky, his hand pulsating with strange magic? someone had to put out the little fires while jesse and the fbc were holding back the end of the world.
